They travel, do mission work, some are firefighters and who knows what else. They support themselves and don't ask anyone for a dime. They are very loving, caring people. @gaylestephen She had problems with her gall bladder during pregnancy, and then got preclampsia - this can happen at any age and at any stage of pregnancy. I think after having the baby she had to get her gall bladder removed as she continued having issues with it.
People stop saying mean things about her! If she doesn't want to use birth control, she doesn't have to! She has a good reason not to, she miscarriaged while using it and believed that was the reason. I think she is a great mother and none of the childrean are left out, I would love to be in this family. It's loving, caring, and lovers of God. God has blessed her immensely with such a family.

Now we are expecting our second child. I am 10 weeks pregnant, and we are praying against any infection, in fact I refuse to eat out at some places and I refuse to eat any processed meat. I don't want this pregnancy to go downhill.
I was not dialating at all and we thought that I was 26 weeks. She had to be delivered via c-section. When she was born they found that somehow she was surviving off of half of my placenta. The other half had been eaten away by a very rare infection that only 1 in 1,000 pregnant women get from hot dogs, unwashed veggies and unprocessed cheese. I had eaten two bites of a hotdog a month beforehand. If they had not removed her, she and I would have died. Now she is a spunky 11 month old.
This is a great family.......I wish I could afford to have that many kids. I'll tell you though. I know it's scarey. My daughter was born at 27 weeks and 5 days. I was in labor for about 16 hours, and the doctor was actually trying to stop my labor. Finally it got to where every time I had a contraction, my daughter's heart rate would either completely stop for like a few seconds, and the alarm would go off, or it would go up, which meant she was in fetal distress.

It was good, really, because we knew what to expect when we had babies. Children should have more work than free time. There might be less horrible, spoiled, nasty little bratty kids out there.

I love large familes, and I love living debt-free, however having 19 children is WRONG. Those poor daughters practically raise those babies-- I've seen it on the show. They even went to help plan Josh and Anna's wedding and Josh was like "we have to hurry up and plan because my parents need the girls back home." Having responsibilities/ chores is very important. Raising your siblings is wrong because the parents should be doing that.
The title should say "19 Kids and Overpopulating" , or "19 Kids and Taking Down an Already Stressed Planet"... or maybe "Her Vagina is Shot". There is no way these kids are receiving quality time... good parenting involves raising kids yourself, not having your children raise them for you.

@jaheira2016, FYI, the reason why Josie was born at 25 weeks was not because of a reproductive problems, or her Uterus collapsing. The baby had to be delivered because of a condition called Pre-Eclampsia. Pre-eclampsia is basically hypertension that happens in pregnancy. It has to do with the heart mainly. Yes it could mean that Michelle's body isn't able to handle pregnancy anymore, but it happens to women having their first child too. It's not just because she's had 19 kids.
@breemystic - and if you know anything about preeclampsia- you know it risks both the mom and childs life. And- she is more likely to have it in future pregnancies-

I have a friend who's uterious fell out after she had a set of twins. She went ahead and had surgery to put it back in and had another baby afterwards. She has six kids by five different men and I lost respect in her because she was not taught the values of supporting youself of respecting God.
The Duggars have values and I love watching their show. Unlike Michelle I can't have children because God has other plans for me. I have Ovarian Cancer instead.

@gaylestephen She had problems with her gall bladder during pregnancy, and then got preclampsia - this can happen at any age and at any stage of pregnancy. I think after having the baby she had to get her gall bladder removed as she continued having issues with it.

People stop saying mean things about her! If she doesn't want to use birth control, she doesn't have to! She has a good reason not to, she miscarriaged while using it and believed that was the reason. I think she is a great mother and none of the childrean are left out, I would love to be in this family. It's loving, caring, and lovers of God. God has blessed her immensely with such a family.

This couple can serve as an example of what happens when humans breed like animals. 19 kids, and maybe more on the way. Why? What point are they trying to make? I hope TLC, The Learing Channel, is show casing this couple as an example of what not to do.
Think about this: If it is ok to have 20 kids by them, why not every couple in the world too. Now imagine the consequences of that. Be realistic and really consider the ramifications of that. What an abnormal couple.

Now we are expecting our second child. I am 10 weeks pregnant, and we are praying against any infection, in fact I refuse to eat out at some places and I refuse to eat any processed meat. I don't want this pregnancy to go downhill.

I was not dialating at all and we thought that I was 26 weeks. She had to be delivered via c-section. When she was born they found that somehow she was surviving off of half of my placenta. The other half had been eaten away by a very rare infection that only 1 in 1,000 pregnant women get from hot dogs, unwashed veggies and unprocessed cheese. I had eaten two bites of a hotdog a month beforehand. If they had not removed her, she and I would have died. Now she is a spunky 11 month old.

This is a great family.......I wish I could afford to have that many kids. I'll tell you though. I know it's scarey. My daughter was born at 27 weeks and 5 days. I was in labor for about 16 hours, and the doctor was actually trying to stop my labor. Finally it got to where every time I had a contraction, my daughter's heart rate would either completely stop for like a few seconds, and the alarm would go off, or it would go up, which meant she was in fetal distress.

@lovinmullets69 There is no other way to train a kid to be a human being who is ultimately going to be a parent him/herself one day, except for learning in a family group/team effort type of home, where each kid learns hands on to help, to give, to learn to compromise and share.
The spoiled brat syndrome in this generation is a result of kids feeling "its' coming to me" type of attitude. In my house toys generally don't get owners. No kid has "rights of ownership" on the family's toys.

It was good, really, because we knew what to expect when we had babies. Children should have more work than free time. There might be less horrible, spoiled, nasty little bratty kids out there.

I love large familes, and I love living debt-free, however having 19 children is WRONG. Those poor daughters practically raise those babies-- I've seen it on the show. They even went to help plan Josh and Anna's wedding and Josh was like "we have to hurry up and plan because my parents need the girls back home." Having responsibilities/ chores is very important. Raising your siblings is wrong because the parents should be doing that.

Yeah, it not only sickens me that they have so many kids, but what sickens me even more is that after probably 15 kids the dad must have been like: "Hey honey, if we just keep on having kids non stop maybe we'll get a reality show on TLC, they accept anything for a reality show these days, and that way we won't have to work 10 jobs each just to afford all these kids!"

@jaheira2016, FYI, the reason why Josie was born at 25 weeks was not because of a reproductive problems, or her Uterus collapsing. The baby had to be delivered because of a condition called Pre-Eclampsia. Pre-eclampsia is basically hypertension that happens in pregnancy. It has to do with the heart mainly. Yes it could mean that Michelle's body isn't able to handle pregnancy anymore, but it happens to women having their first child too. It's not just because she's had 19 kids.

@txnurse9 my grandmother and Aunt are RN', so yes I do know the risks of pre-eclampsia. Michelle could have died, and Josie could have died. I am aware of that. I know they were aware of it, having dealt with it before with their first set of twins. If they decide to take the risk of having another child that is their choice, not ours.

@fantastic7heaven yep fantastic heaven you're right on the ar tax website, James R and Michelle B Duggar have 4 properties, with 15,000 owed for 2009 TOTAL. for their house, that's a "supposed" church they pay 800 on that house, and for the land they pay 7,000. 6000 of that goes to the schools for their personal property alone. Plus they pay VOLUNTARY Library and Fire Department Taxes for the properties in Springdale AR, they do pay taxes.

I think it's sick and pathetic to put one lives in jeopardy of serious danger having 19 babies, not counting the one that died. Look where it's gotten her? She lucky to come out of that alive and her infant is struggling. She's 44 years old for crying out loud. When will she stop? When she leave all those little ones motherless, dying on the deliverly table? Michelle and Jim Bob are sick. I'm starting to think they are doing it for the money and attention to keep their show a float.

ITA. How dare she say number 19 came as a surprise? When she had 18, Michelle was already planning for number 19 telling anyone who would listen she wants to have as many as God will give her. She deliberately got pregnant, otherwise she would have found other means to prevent it. Like condom if not BC. No, she wanted to get pregnant.
