  • steel fan is way more difficult to use than bamboo or wood. in the open position it is used to block vision, parry and strike.

  • cool form looks great:) but why do you got that uniform it looks korean

  • @xTiger251 Actually Malaysian...

  • im sure you can use your mind on what advantages the fan can bring, i would think it could easily be used to distract, since some can be made with wood and metal ribs in closed position can hit tight points of the body, slap a bad cell out of you, and im sure over time the weight and movements used can help to strengthen the wrist...... anything can be beneficial if you know how to approach... go outside prick a thousand leaves off a tree and see if you would feel a difference...

  • Let's assume you would enter a combat situation with a fan, you would basically use it as a wooden (or metal) stick right? Or is there any advantage to unfolding it at all? By the way, I really can't evaluate what you're doing in the video but it looks fantastic :)

  • @rexonaforwomen the open fan is more a distraction unless you have one with full metal ribs that are sharpend for slashes. The metal ones are also an excellent han bo or stick/jitte and can snap a wrist easilly.

The most overlooked aspect of a fan is that you can carry one anywhere without raising concern over carring a weapon-worth its weight in gold in most countries

  • love it! im learning fan and i masterd sais and katana fans fun and easly cosilble or how ever u spell it i know lots of guys who do fan and the girls that do can easly kick their asses

  • @NicoleAutumn46B Thanks Nic

  • Unfortunately i have little respect for the fan displays i've found around youtube. Is it meant to be performance, or combat efficient?

Now don't call be a keyboard warrior, i acknowledge that i'm sitting in a chair while typing this, but i could improvise all the moves she does here with a teddy bear.

  • @GameBeard Hi mate - thanks for watching and commenting. To answer your question it's more performance, although it has it's origins in combat.

You are of course absolutely a keyboard warrior unless you prove otherwise. So let me ask if you would be so kind as to improvise the moves or some of your own with or without a teddy bear and film the results for the youtube community to observe. Unless of course you can't be bothered, are too busy etc. Most people just talk and NEVER do... Over to you

  • @crouchingmole

oooooooohhhh. fight. fight. fight. fight. lol.

    i'm learning fan as well.

  • @crouchingmole may i asked wher eu elarn from?

  • After having made my own tessen out of pure steel and cloth, I must admit that it would hurt to be hit in the face with one. A tessen with 8 - 12 metal ribs is extremely heavy and it not something I would use to fan my face with. Can a fan be used as a weapon? Absoulutely! Should you only use a fan in a fight? Probably not.

  • @HakumeiHogosha. Well said HH

  • Super nice!! While i'm currently learning a fan style, not this. I can see the hours of training that it takes for the display. I especially liked the fan flips toward the end. You cannot do that until you are in command of the .... weapon?

While my lessons are about my personal training and I'm not looking to hurt or defend myself with a fan. After doing it for a little, I'm realizing that even if not sharpened to 13 stilettos? The bulk of the fan does make an effective in close weapon.

  • @hirundine You're spot on h - thanks for posting and enjoy your training.

  • @crouchingmole is shaolin kung fu = kung fu? or do they learn diffrent things?

  • Fans were a favored weapon in korea and japan cause they were and everyday item men and women alike carried and they were easy to conceal.

  • @digdugs57 Thanks for watching and commenting '57

  • fans are strong and elegant

  • Given the option I would never use a fan in a fight, even a brick would be better.

  • Are fan forms just for exercise or does it have any martial merit to it? I'm not sure how effective a fan is in combat, a fan slap doesn't hurt :-/

  • @SardonX Personally I would say it's exercise/practice of the art, but I'm sure other people will have different views. Thanks for watching, and commenting.

  • @SardonX Just think about it. Have you ever heard of somebody going into battle armed with a fan? Of course not. That's because it's only minor weapon that could be used to fight an inexperienced fool. The most effective hand-held arsenal for combat remains: guns, swords, axes, spears, halberds, long and short knives, flails, bow and arrow, staff (maybe). Anything outside of this group, like a fan, is either ineffective or used for personal defense only in one-on-one confrontations.

  • @SardonX i do kung fu and the actual fighting fans have knives on them and are made completely made of metal and cloth

  • Very grand balance! I'm improving my low center balance and at first kept rolling on my back when I fell :P

  • @FarseerOfPouiln. Thanks for the comments Far.

  • is this type of style only best fit for females?? i think it looks cool with males too ^^

  • @bd290493. Great for both I think, but you do need good flexibility which can be a little harder for guys. Thanks for watching bd.

  • @bd290493 also most females jus do this form so it may look like it but if you a dude doin this form fighint another dude it hurts more because u got ya butt kkicked by a fan by a dude

  • @xhunter12x yin and yang my friend - it's the way of the universe

  • bad ((

  • Whatever. It was not bad. It was very beautiful and expressive, and deadly. You can't judge something you know nothing about. I am a martial artist and I actually use kung fu fan as one of my weapons.

  • I've wanted to learn a fan form for a while now, and I'd love to learn this one :-) I am a hung gar student. I'll be trying to learn from the video you've posted, but do you know if there is a step-to-sted guide to be found somewhere? It would make it easier for me as I'm not the best at picking up steps...

  • I have forwarded you request onto my Sifu

  • Thanks alot. Am looking forward to his response.

  • Wow, thanks for posting this, it's just the reference I was looking for. I'm writing a story and I wanted one of my characters to know fan fighting. I had sort of an image in my head of what the style would look like, but I want to depict it realistically. This is just what I needed and now I know what it's called. :) Thanks again!

  • Glad it helped. (You have mail)

  • does anyone know where you could find a fan thats good for actual contact use? everyone im finding is either plastic, or remarkably flimsy. any help is greatly appreciated.

  • use a steel fan, and A LOT of protective armor.

  • i loved it so pretty :D

  • Thanks poke...
