  • nicely done...love it

  • great movie :)

  • @ Gothgrl10, indeed, and to Hatsumomo

  • This movie was so sad yet so amazing. And I love the video you made! <3

  • Oh my goodness, when we went to Japan, my mother bought a music box with geiko (geisha) on the outside and it plays this song! What a lovely surprise to stumble upon it online!

  • (and I mean the part in the beginning, lol...)

  • awesome job i like it alot !!!

  • i always wanted to know what happened to hasumomo and chiyo's sister

  • She is realy pretty, but not a japanese, she is chinese... everybody think she is japanese..

  • @graciema777 Yup Curce of a golden flower.:) and h o t f daggers

  • Alguien sabe como se llama esa canción? se el nombre de la película, pero no de la canción¡ X favor¡

  • I have a little figure that plays the first part...Does anyone know what it's called?

  • the soft music box song in the beginning was called Sakura (cherry blossom) I learned the song and dance in 5th grade!!

    Sakura, Sakura

    Cherry Blossoms everywhere

Clouds of glory in the sky

Mist of beauty in the air

    Lovely colors floating by

    Sakura, Sakura

    Let all come singing...

    Love that song!!

  • I jus finished the book, I want to see the movie now!I love finding out who plays who!

  • Amazing! I loved this movie. It's one of my all time faves.

  • Niice :D

  • wow i love this song and the vid goes perfectly with it. Totally awesome :3

  • good job like the video! song go's with it nicely!!!

  • Brilliant! love this song and movie

  • Your mind is therefore filled with Western fallacies. I don't even have to be a Far-Eastern Asian to tell you that. There are differences between Japanese, Chinese and Korean people since they are different islands and have different histories hence different evolutionary paths. Just because they live in the same part of the globe doesn't mean they are all homogenous. Foolish you.

  • This is my favourite movie of all time! Perhaps not this particular video (though it's as great as 5/5).

  • Isn't the opening the Japanese folk song, "Sakura," or "Cherry Blossom?"

  • who compused this song?

  • It was sad. I wonder what happened to her sis. ;3;

  • dont read this comment if you are currently reading the book, but her sister in the book runs away to the village in the begining of the movie and marries someones son i forgot who though

  • @HappyApe it was tanaka;s son

  • Comment removed

  • oh... very cool... beauiful video...

    i love it

    <3

    10/10

  • So disappointed with this adaptation of Memoirs which was made solely with profit in mind. I still watched it repeatedly though because Michelle Yeoh was marvellous & the costumes were fab! I hate how they stick Ziyi in everything for instant profit; the only roles she does really well are mega-bitches (like she played in The Banquet). And are Westerners apparently so stupid we won't notice that the cast is Chinese?

  • You can't expect that most western people can tell asian apart - Japanese and Chinese for instance. I understand that its a sensitive issue, but nevertheless.

  • I thought this was removed! :o But it's still here! :D I love your impeccable timing <3

  • This is an amazing song.

    Music Box by Thrice!

  • video is beautiful .... the song is spettaccolare, you could tell me the title?

  • Poor Sayuri...

    Beautiful vodeo

  • the funny thing about this movie is that noen of those woman were japanese ...

  • ok movie but they should've gotten a Japanese girl to star in it, Zhang ZiYi is beautiful but she just looks too chinese too pull off a japanese role.

  • i lik the original music but this is good too and the same thing happened to me haha i turned up my speakers n then BOOM lol :D

  • Absolutely.

    Love.

    It.

    <3

  • whats the age difference between her and him again? i'm just curious LOL!

  • quite alot haha xD

  • about 20 years give or take.

  • at Iwang001:

about thirty years, according to the book.

  • increible!!!!!! me encanta esta super chulo!!!!!

  • great movie and band!<3

  • Doomflower, Iive said it before and I'll say it again; I love you for this vid/song combo.

  • aw damn...I turned the vol. up coz & then boom =_=

  • lolz poor u. same happened to me *_*

  • LMAO WHOA XD Got me by surprise when it went from a soft music box to hardcore rock....very nice :P

  • ...

One of my favorites from Thrice coupled with an incredible flick...

    ...

    You. Rock.

  • I loved the mv :) it was really good!! I really love how the beginning was so calm and then it became so loud! :) awesome!

  • nicely done!

  • Wow! This video was so amazingly beautiful! I love it!

  • I love how you used this song with this movie.

Since the intro & outro is of that traditional Japanese song.

    It's wonderfully made, too. =]

  • this is beautiful, thank you!

  • oh yeah, and to GhettoCoyote, i am soooo sorry for choosing a song with musical variety. my bad. next time i will choose something that plays "quietly enough" so half your street can remain sleeping. (AKA... turn down the volume, genius.)

    hahahahaha

  • @doomflower I think it goes awesomely with this, I think we're more creative people though and think beyond the. "oh well memoirs of a geisha is a Chinese movie so lets add some twing twang music to it and call it a day" eff the haters.

  • thanks to everyone for the comments.

    some points for clarification:

1.) the whole song is "music box" by thrice, BUT thrice incorporates the traditional japanese song "sakura sakura" within their intro and outro.

2.) geisha are NOT whores. while their virginity is technically sold, to ignorantly generalize them as whores is rude and disrespectful to an important piece of japanese history and culture.

3.) while i'm on that, notice i said japanese. not asian. asian cultures vary greatly. Thanks!

  • they aren't women slaves

they suffer for their art so they themselve basically become walkng peices of art and beauty

  • @doomflower it is true that they are not whores but they do sleep with their dana...i am japanese and my great great grandmother was a geisha (came to a total suprise to me after i heard about it) after i saw the movie i asked my aunt about it and she told me all about my great great grandmother

  • @doomflower agree, they are definitively NOT prostitutes...i am not saying it because i heard it, because i saw the movie or anything. I have true knowledge of the geisha culture, before prostitution was ilegal in japan, "sluts" and geishas had to register as one or another...a whore, OR a geisha...the obvious difference, one had to do with sex, the other one didn't. Geishas used the term "double register" for geishas who slept with their clients...as an insult, double register didn't existed.

  • mann this iss greaat!i luv the video andd the song!they are soo cool!^^super cool!thanks doomflower for the vid:P

  • I watched this at night. It starts off quietly enough, THEN comes the guitar. Nearly waking up half of my street.

    Not cool.

  • Haha ya same....

  • that's why it is cool! the louder the better I say!

  • me freakin 2...

  • Theres a little buttom thats called volume - meaning volume lower...ever seen it? search your keyboard or computer for that little buttom invention.

  • That was amazing. Excellent work.

  • that was a very well done video! everything went together so well too

  • truely amazing <3

  • nicely done for sure

  • Oh man this is so gorgeous! Never thought I'd see these 2 combined but it works so beautifully! My favorite Thrice song and one of my most favored movies! Great timing!

  • I really like the ending, and Thrice is awesome

  • WHOA that was awesome

  • OMG i love this song and the video really says something!!

  • it matches!

  • Without words ;)

    Fantastic job!

  • Wow that was great! Fantastic job! Perfect!

  • JUST AWESOME!

  • love this song. could lissten to it 100 times a day. thrice are easily one of the best bands in late 2000. films cool to., nice job-

  • whos this song by?

  • Music box by Trice

  • comercial movie..

  • I loved this....nice job 5/5 :]

But honestly I never got the full concept of what a geisha was. They are artist no doubt...they're NOT prostitues

but I didn't get the part with Dr. Crab or w/e...

    Was she sold to him?

    Permanently?

    or idk....

  • I love this movie, its awesome, I could watch it 100 times in a single day and not get tired of it!!! Great vid 5/5!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Has any of you stupid jerks who think geisha are prostitutes heard of the Host CLub, where men basically carry on non-sexual relationships with women who pay them alot? That's what geisha are. Geisha only sell their virginity, I don't know why, but don't you DARE confuse geisha with prostitutes. People like that make me proud of the Japanese, AND it just makes me hate you prejudice people more.

  • oooooooooohhhhhhh snap! dats gotta hurt but yea i happen 2 agree wit u i hate prejudice ppl too if i was a geisha and some prejudice person called me a prostitute i would b like oh its on now!

  • Actually, geisha don't even sell their virginity.

  • actually, they do

  • good music vid

  • Brilliant!!!

  • That was amazing, really well timed and the scenes really fit the music. I like the intro best when she's twirling the fan and than starts bashing the umbrella. =D So perfect!

  • magnificent!!!!!!!! *****

  • I thought that the beginning was Sakura Sakura! =]

  • would anyone happen to know where i can listen to sakura sakura? i love music box music

  • the beginning part of the song is called sakura.

  • well with your english it doesn't seem like you read it... besides it was a good movie, and when has a movie ever truly captured a book?

  • Reading a book has nothing to do with weather you have a good English or not! Ever heard of translators? Sheesh...

I agree on the movie thing, though.

  • This video makes mi cry ;( Awesome really awesome

  • This is a great video.

  • I've played this song on my flute before. It's fun. :D

  • cool, do a video of it

  • I would but I don't have a video camera. Or a webcam. :D Besides, it's been so long since I've played it...

  • The music box part of this song sounds just like DDR- Sakura

    Anyway, good video.

  • Because the song is called Sakura.

  • It's called Music Box by Thrice.

  • Oh ok. It sounds a lot like a song called Sakura, that was in our band book.

  • That was meant to be a reply but when I hit reply it just made a new comment

  • She's talking about the music box "part" at the begining and end... That's a song called Sakura Sakura... one of the most popular songs in Japan... Every Japanese person knows the tune... ^^

  • Yep! I'm Japanese, and I definitely know "Sakura". I love how they can incorporate such a sweet song into a rock song. I adore the juxtaposition of the hardcore bass and the music box music.

  • what is the video about? i haven't seen it!

  • The movie is about a young girl who was sold by her family to become a geisha (artist/prostitute). When she is growing up in a geisha house she makes a enemy and finds her true love(16sec).

  • A geisha is just an artist, not a prostitute. The prostitutes only dress like geisha, except their obi is tied in the front.

  • Then what did doctor crab pay for. Or what is the meaning of the plum. The eel visiting the cave?

  • He paid for her virginity. But that's a one in a lifetime thing. After that, they get paid for their entertainment skills, not their bodies. Although, the geisha that the author of the book interviewed sewed him for the incorrectness of that part.

  • If you did a little research about geisha, you'd find that intimacy was looked down upon. If a geisha was being to intimate with a patron, she was suspended- or so I'm told.

  • Thank you! I get so sick of people calling Geishas prostitutes!

  • Geisha's aren't prostitues, looks them up on yahoo. They are the same as like, high mentenice girfriends or somthing that repays you by entertaining you. Thats the only part of the movie I hated, they didn't explain very much about the culture...

  • brilliance

  • Beautiful.

I absoloutly love the asian culture.

    I wish I were asian.

  • have you seen this movie? it is kind of sad...

  • Yes I have.

I really like it, though its sad.

  • i haven't, because i know that i wouldn't understand it vary well. but some one has told me the main idea about it.

  • Oh.

You should watch it though, its not the same even if someone tells you about it.

  • i would probally be vary shoked by it. ^_^"

  • Lol.

    Its good ^^

  • ok then i'll watch it. <3

  • i dont wish i was asian but they do have a beautiful culture when it comes to their calligraphy and dancing and martial arts.

  • Thanks, but please don't generalize the Asian culture. They're several distinct cultures within the Asian category. "Memoirs" represents the Japanese culture. And even though "Memoirs" was written by a white guy, directed by a white guy, and the characters were mostly played by Chinese women, this movie made me proud of my culture.

  • Mm. I can if I want to.

I'm not saying I only like the Japanese culture, Im saying I like the Korean culture, and the Chinese.

So next time you try to correct someone, don't jump to conclusions.

  • You obciosly don't understaand theancient culture of a geisha!

  • Actually, sir, Geisha's were not necessarily whores. You just need to study their culture more, and not be so stereotypically ignorant.

  • Geisha is not a whores.....they are piece of arts..human arts i mean...but they nothing like whores.....such a big jerk.....

  • You're right. But a girl's virginity /was/ sold off. They're not whores, but their world is not 100% pure.

  • amazing. i love it.

  • This is one of my favourite videos in Youtube. Just love it <3

  • Really creepy but cool

  • ....

  • i read the book it's the best!! hope to see the movie too when i get the chance

  • ooo, i love this music. ive never seen the movie though, it looks so sad but really good. i think ill watch it sometime =)

  • this is awesome

  • This is such a chillingly beautiful video. I love it =D

  • is the music in the begining a real song? if it is can someone tell me the name and where to find it. it is so pretty!

  • It's called Sakura Sakura, a traditional Japanese folk song. :D

  • thanks so much! i'll look it up. your the best!

  • actually its part of the whole song. Music Box by Thrice... its not seperate

  • Actually pshwhoa, my mom has a japanese music box with Sakura Sakura playing when you open it.
