  • Shes such a modest human being, i love her

  • "so there you are you see you're saying it all for me. congratulations"

    *pat pat*

  • CONGRADULATIONS U WON THE NOBEL PRIZE FOR LITERATURE!!

    doris: cool story bro

  • "I've won all the prizes in Europe, every bloody one, I'm delighted to win them all, it's a Royal Flush OK"?

  • She is so sweet and an excellent writer.........

  • Perfect reaction. The Nobel prize ceremony has become a farce.

  • sweet nanny

  • I love her.

  • i love this woman!!!!

  • hey if anyone has read the author's book Memoirs of a Survivor please contact me! I need some help! thanks!

  • Probably a better example of poor journalism. Elderly woman clambers out of a taxi with bags of shopping, is stopped while she is trying to mount the kerb and is told she's won the Noel Prize and how does feel? I would think annoyed and flustered. The Radio 4 journalist at least gave her some options in how she might like to respond and to which she reacted positively, only to be pushed aside by more silly questions from the sideline. Not all are celebrities and prepared with throw away lines.

  • DAMN SON. Black people wear gold chains, GANGSTAS in the UK wear Artichoke necklaces

  • Gratulation!

  • "The professor must have died"...who was he talking about..?

  • BADASS GRAMA! Love the reaction!!

  • The artichoke looks like a microphone.

  • LOL, this video never gets old!

  • Heh. Quite wonderful. "Oh dear, another one? When will they stop bothering me?"

  • could somebody write it down what she sais. i did not understand everything. i am german and it is difficult to understand everything. that would be really nice. nice greets.

  • @xXxTiniiixXx

"Oh, Christ. It's been going on now for 30 years, I can't get more excited.

Right. I'm sure you'd like some uplifting remarks of some kind. It's been going on for 30 years. One can't get more excited than one gets, you know. "

After that, she babbles on a bit, and says she will do an interview for that person asking on Radio 4 in a few minutes. Then she says she's won all the prizes in Europe, and she's delighted to win them all.

  • haha .."oh Christ"

    Doris rocks

  • she reaction is so sweat.

  • the damnation of doris blessing

  • She's so sweet and funny! "Oh Christ, this has been going on for 30 years!" :D she seems like a wonderful person.

  • man thats just right

  • She's so cute and very talented....I love her books. She deserved the nobel prize. ;D;D

  • Who is the 'certain professor'?

  • THAT is how you win the Nobel Prize. Basically not giving a damn about it. "A certain PROFESSOR must have died" YES!!

  • oh really, lets have it then, where is yours?

  • haha lol

  • Ni

    Idea

un duro o shinny copper penny de un livro

  • who the fuck is the guy holding the artichoke ? Lol

  • that's her son :)

  • oh she is cute.. :)

  • lol

  • she looks like to my grandmother.

  • her books are gorgeous, I've read them both in English and my native language, - all beautiful, even in translation. And - sad.

  • Read her novels and her autobiography, she's an amazing woman.

I love how the clip ends with "It's a royal flush." haha

  • She has won the most respected award and yet managed to stay so humble and devoid of any emotion conveying excitement throughout the video, she surely is one gritty lady. Also, she seems to be more approachable than a few other writers who turn all snobby on getting their first book made into a film.

    She the woman. :D

  • What does her son have in his hand?

  • onions and anona (an exotic fruit).

  • Frankly, this is like something out of Monty Python. Very amusing.

btw, I'd call what you call anona an artichoke. I suppose a rose by any other name etc.

  • Yellow Spanish onions and an artichoke.

  • lol, I'm delighted to win them all... It's a royal flush.

    what a woman!

  • I like the way she is so composed, almost indifferent, even, upon hearing that she's won the greatest award available today for literature.

  • Wasn't she the one who predicted Obama was going to die to a swedish newspaper?

    Or is this a rumor?

  • yes, she was.

  • hahaha i love her reaction is so cool!

  • One remarkable woman, a true British.

Reacted exactly like it's no big deal, and that there's no need for the press to work up a fuss.

  • She's 88 years old

    fucking ancient

  • "I'm sure you'd like some uplifting remarks of some kind."

    LOL!

  • That is the coolest reaction ever caught on video.

  • she is so above it.

  • Comment removed

  • haha! nice

  • haha oh man, i hope when i'm pushing 90 i'm that much of an absolute badass

    "oh christ."

  • She was shortlisted to win it many years ago, but was dropped because she started writing science fiction, which wasn't considered "high literature" at the time. I don't blame her for being tired of all the politics.

  • I loved how she reacted. It looks like its no big deal and I love that. I am sick and tired of people jumping on the tele for things that are alot smaller in value and recognition.

  • Hey with her brain, her life and all the wonderful books she has given the world, she is allowed to tell it like it is from her perspective!!! So 88 years old!! CONGRATULATIONS you old brain box, you old, in-your-face, beautiful person ...xxxx

  • I love her closing comment - "It's a royal flush."

    Fantastic!

  • I dont think the nobel is crap...at least not in literature as I know...mostly they are right in what they give away...rarly ever they made mistake...certainly one of great directions of how to get to know world's best works...

  • I can tell you that Horace Engdal, the head of the committee, was clearly VERY excited when he announced that Doris Lessing had won.

    THIS year? Not so much.

(It was someone named LeClezio and Engdal just somehow didn't seem anywhere near as enthusiastic to me)

  • i think shes right

  • Mmmmmmm.....ARTICHOKE!

  • you disgust me

  • whats your problem? what do u find so disgusting about artichokes? What are you some fan of broccoli?

  • i'd rather not go into it...bad experience as a child, I...the artichokes...[runs off crying]

  • didnt she just write obama will be killed if he gets elected?

  • She said that she was afraid he would be and as a result destroy the US. But give her a break, she is nearly 90! If my lovely (but über-cranky) 82 year old grandmother was interviewed I probably have lots to cringe about. Admitting that she was afraid that Obama could be killed would be the least of it!

  • im delighted to win them all.... the whole bloody lot. genius!

  • "Oh christ! It's been going on for 30 years!"

LOL! I love it. I am going to have to read up on this woman's work.

  • Who is the man with the artichoke and onions?

  • lol

  • her invalid son

  • the man with artichoke is her son peter

  • She's brilliant! A real life; true to ones own reality. Only tacky, awful authors like J.K. Rowling feed off undue adulation, needed to compensate for their lack of talent. However, Lessing's has superb talent, character and feeling, and needs no such substitute. Long life Doris!

  • I LOVE HER...down to earth...knows where her priorities are

  • I liked her reaction. Very natural and un-cocky.

  • Zazazoo2: Well sure, so would I. But we haven't won every prize in Europe, have we? She just wants to go inside and put her groceries away. To quote George Carlin, "I'm just an old fart, leave me alone!"

  • She didn't seem too excited. If it was me, I would be jumping around and screaming.

  • Ok, maybe not jumping around. But I would scream. =]

  • She is an authentic person. Love her :)

  • it is quite odd to give such an interview with an artichocke behind you :)))

  • That woman is so intelligent that she does not the Nobel Prize with seriousness and arrogance. She is a great person.

  • I don't get why so many sites are claiming she said "I couldn't care less."

  • I just love her. How amazing she is, more even, how unbelivable her work is!

  • hermosa, profunda, viva doris lessing me voy a leer todos sus libros

  • (Booker 'The Good Terrorist' no?) Doris Lessing is perhaps ungracious in response to Nobel Committee who have dissed her in the past, and to the untoward way in which she is first informed of their reversal of attitude, coming home, one might think, physically and emotionally taxed from experience with her son from hospital.

  • I'm wondering what kind of twisted disinformation outlet could possibly have told someone here that Hitler won the Nobel Prize

  • Nice Old lady!! She says exactly what she feels. Wish everyone could be like that.

  • A well derserved honour, and what a lady !! However, contrary to what she said, she has not won all the prizes in Europe...the Booker she has NOT won!

  • My reaction to the news was "Oh,no!" And I uploaded a video commentary Bookworm) Actually, I think Lessing is a great lady with a most interesting life, just not my favorite writer. I find some of her books quite boring. I met her at Barcelona University once, where she came to talk to us on her life and works. And she IS a darling. And then, I see them guys at the Swedish Academy DO act funny at times. Al Gore,Nobel Prize for PEACE! Thought this was the Nobel, not the Oscars!

  • the Swedish Academy doesn't hand out the peace prize

  • how gracious and interesting the woman is!!!

  • What a darling woman!

  • Gore's award was strickly political. he had nothing to do with attainting neither 'truth' nor 'peace'. look at arafat, hitler and the others who were given this 'award'. this woman is amazing and her attitude is great! english stotic who takes it in her stride. a sign of greatness, IMO

  • Hahaha. It is obvious you just want to spread some hate and not check your facts. Hitler was never given the prize, he was merely nominated by supporters. Please don't spread myths if you want to be taken seriously...

  • i stand corrected and you are right. thanks for keeping it real on hitler but as far as Gore: Al Gore's has once again been caught in extravagent lies, this time with a court of law ruling his An Inconvenient Truth was full of untruths that would conveniently get him the publicity he's been frantically seeking, with an Oscar and Nobel Prize stolen by falsehoods right before the next presidential election...you can google it.

  • Yes, but that court of law was hardly apolitical. There's lots of courts of law, man of them don't deserve respect (You've heard of the Dred Scott decision I hope, since you are so up on your history).

Please take the Gore-bashing home. Your boy is almost our of office and then you won't have to do defend the legitimacy of the worst presidency ever in 12 short months.

  • Doris Lessing was photographed totally out of the blue and unexpectedly hence her stand off fish attitude

  • so funny

  • You win the artichoke prize!

    You should be happy!

....and look at the cluster of onion too!

A punch to the stupid power of stupid academy... made with an artichoke.

    P.S.:

Please, someone explains me why Lessings do not use plastic bags when they go to the supermarket...

  • Now that the Globalists have given the "peace" award to an opportunistic Globalist sleazeball like Gore. She is pretty much right about it being worth nothing. video the British TV special "great global warming swindle"

  • Doris Lessing RULES!

  • I love this old gal! At least she ReallY IS an author. Al Bore just tells everybody else how to live and spoke in a slockumentery with a lot of propaganda scare mongering. Peace prize? I don't get the connection as to what Bore did for peace.

The nobel peace prize has become a complete joke quite some time ago, even before Dimmie Carter.

Mostly just commies, libs and anti-Semites win these thing nowadays.

  • I can see how it would be tough for you to understand. If global warming is real, and comes to fruition, it will have horrific consequences for peace and prosperity in the world. Think about it some more, and you might get it.

  • "If" global warming is real. Says it all doesn't it. Gore was awarded a peace prize for something that hasn't even come to pass. Says everything about the devaluation and lame politicking of the peace prize. One can accept global warming and still think Al Gore is a joke.

  • Actually global warming is very real. 99% of all scientist in the field agree with this. Our planet has had many climate shifts throughout it's 4 billion year old history. The issue has never been if it's real or not. The issue is that, we humans, are escalating the natural process.

  • I think you miss the point. The earth always gets hotter as the sun gets brighter. But carbon has nothing to do with making the sun brighter. The carbon theory is just that a theory with no proof. Nor if it was true will a liberty crushing tax to fund Global government fix it. find a video (google) "The Great Global Warming Swindle" and meet some of the scientists who were against the theory but got put on the list of supporters

  • Carbon absorbs infrared rays from sunlight and heat up causing an effect much like a warm blanket over the earth (nitrogen and oxygen, the main components allow it to pass through). I won't debate this in this forum or pander to conspiracies. But it would behoove you to learn the difference between the common usage of the term "theory" (conjecture) and scientific theory. The Carbon "theory" is based on empirical observation, experiment and mathematics using Markov chain models.

  • Actually we were talking about anthropogenic global warming, not just "any" climate shift. It may be real, it may not be (personally I'm inclined to think it is), but that does not change my original point: whatever the status of man-made warming, Gore is still an embarrassing, holier-than-thou attention whore whose peace prize win is a joke.

  • I agree with your statement about Gore

  • The Goracle. :)

  • mitchsensei , Just thought about it. You are one brain washed IDIOT! You must be a lib.

FACT, the average temperature has risen ONLY 1 degree within the last 100 years! Now how is that a "global warming the world is doomed" moment?

And how is keeping the starving undeveloped countries undeveloped, like Bore wants to do (to save the air quality), good for peace?

  • mitch Why are you buying into this scare mongering? It makes you look stupid. You need to read up on what the growing # of scientist against Bores propaganda, are saying.

Go watch "The Great Global Warming Swindle" and learn something!

There has ALWAYS been climate change. Telling everybody it is a carbon problem so you will buy carbon offsets from AlBores made up company is a scam.

  • mitch

Fact, the level of carbon has risen only AFTER the temperature has, not before = The higher levels of carbon follows the higher temperatures, meaning it is NOT carbon that makes the temp higher the higher temps have made the carbon levels higher.

Kinda puts a kink in AlBores propaganda fear tactics.

    What a lemming!

  • Moski, you are the Frakkin idiot. I was pointing out what a moron you were for not being able to see the connection that the Nobel Committee made with Peace to Global Warming. It shows you complete lack of ability to think objectively, whether or not you agree with Global Warming Theory.

  • No, your ranting is what makes YOU look stupid. You make all kinds of assumptions about me, because you want to sound smart, instead you look like a dope for making all those assumptions.

  • Al Gore could take a lesson from her, rather than have his "it's all about me" and "its about time the world bowed down to me" attitude

  • When he asks her what the prize means to her, I think she would like to say "Nothing at all" heheh but she understands that it is something important. But I can almost hear her saying: "This does means bloody nothing to me!" Amazing! Thats the perfect picture of pure altruism. No ego here, at all.

  • her servant is cool

  • That's her son.

  • what a charming lady, no drama at all. compare this to some one who wins an oscar. i am buying all her books. Every bloody one.

  • LOL, the guy with the artichoke is fantastic !! ;)

  • That's her son, Peter. "Well, a certain professor must have died." :)

  • Yes, thanks for the footage. Hilarious.

  • Perfect!

  • lol!! Good on her. Certainly a more deserving winner of a more serious prize than Al Gore and the peace prize.

  • thank for the footage
