Probably a better example of poor journalism. Elderly woman clambers out of a taxi with bags of shopping, is stopped while she is trying to mount the kerb and is told she's won the Noel Prize and how does feel? I would think annoyed and flustered. The Radio 4 journalist at least gave her some options in how she might like to respond and to which she reacted positively, only to be pushed aside by more silly questions from the sideline. Not all are celebrities and prepared with throw away lines.

I find some of her books quite boring. I met her at Barcelona University once, where she came to talk to us on her life and works. And she IS a darling. The Carbon "theory" is based on empirical observation, experiment and mathematics using Markov chain models.
