@TheMissCassia Yeah..a great performance. I saw an old interview of Callaway's in which he said that the reason why he used the phrase " hi-de-hi-de-ho " is because once in the middle of the song he forgot the words and improvised the rest of the way through. It sounded so good that he kept it in the act.
This man was a great performer. He did the moon walk before Michael Jackson was even a thought in his parent's eyes. He swung blues and jazz like da Vinci slapped paint onto canvas.
@bb4ll4sc : Maybe, and I am just saying MAYBE, he had a little chemical assistance(Smokey)....does not take away anything from his performance, though! :) Ha was wonderful and (way) ahead of his time, for sure!
If you pay attention to most of these videos, note that they always made him omit the verse about smokey (cocaine) and kicking the gong around (opium) on television performances. Censorship has been jeopardizing artistry for decades.
@criceto cab is a legend and laid the groundwork but jackson definitely improved on it a ton. jackson was definitely close if not definitely better than cab. not taking anything away from cab, its just jackson's dancing was perfected w the help of the nicholas bros and his singing is obviously legendary in itself. i think if you had to compare the two jackson would come out on top, but if cab had never existed one could definitely question if jackson would ever have existed either
@criceto Have you ever thought that they were two different persons, living in different periods of time and approaching different genres?! Why do you, little people, always have the urge of attacking Jackson?! Oh, yeah, you're always smarter when you sit aside, spittin your invalid opinions! Let's see how good you'll be compared to Jackson...
Ahhh A truly great song.. Too Bad ol' Cab is gone now.. No one Could Quite Play That old time jazz like he could..Coolest Short person to ever walk the earth. And way ahead of his time.. R.I.P Cab

@DonDubbelman He was high as a kite. That helped.

Wait, did they edit out the second verse? the transition from the chorus to the third verse is unnatural & a bit abrupt.
Maybe the "kick the bong around" line was found to be a bit too racy once white folks learned what it meant.
ThatsABiggon 2 years ago
White folks? Dude, it's "kick the gong around", not bong. Refers to opium use, not doing a bong hit. lol.

It was a typo. it does happen. I was familiar with the term & it's meaning.

No one needs credit for the moonwalk because no one knows where it orginated. For all we know it's directly from Africa like most other black dances.
ThatsABiggon 2 years ago
@ThatsABiggon It's clearly from the moon.
