I think 6 was always looking for a woman he could trust, but they were always a willing part of the Village. Any woman he put any trust in at all ended up betraying him in the end. If 6 had found anyone he could trust the series would not had been as effective as it was. I have never felt that the series had any gay overtones, it was just 6 against the World and those who wanted him to conform, kind of like North Korea maybe.
Patrick McGoohan, star and creator of this series died last night. He was 80 years old. A revolutionary series, and one of the first mini-series out of Britain. In this series, he resigns as a secret agent. He is kidnapped and taken to a island, where they hold agents. They try to break him throughout the series, to find why he resigns. In a attempt to keep his identity, he rejects that he is labeled number 6. I remember joining the fan club Six of One, online now. Well miss you there Patrick!
LOL! Homosexual overtones... Strangely there seems to be no Prisoner slash on the internet. That or it's just me no longer able to do a proper google search :D
No such overtones meathead. The video above and in reference to "I want you," was in reference to turning "McGoohan," a spy over to his side, so that they could make use of him. Sorry for calling you meathead :)
he was stuck on an island(suddenly) alone and was commited to escape. so, no chickie-poo. but he did have a couple of flings. and some, like that long legged xke girl w/ her megalomaniac daddy are very distracting....
reading to the kids; was that once upon a time? Some argue its all a dream. I have seen some interesting alternate arrangements of the episodes becuase of so many oddities in the episodes.
The XKE girl with the megalomanic father who looked a lot like napolean was called The Girl Who Was Death. That was the one where he was reading the book to the children.
Once Upon A Time was the second to last episode, the one where the only characters for the full hour are #2, #6, and Butler. McKern's #2 tries to essentially tear down 6's psyche by walking him through his entire life from infanthood to adulthood...in the end 6 turns the tables and kills 2 (who then revives in Fall Out.)
Dang, and i love that one. it crissed my mind. its episode 8 and prior to "Once Upon...." on the "Official" dvd release. she was sooo naughty. And as moosey62 (possibly on pg2 now) said, "Orange Alert" We do have them now. 911 was an inside job and media job. not to change the subject but we have Orange Alerts . Also, If you want to leave this nation now, you can be compelled to leave your wealth here. They want it for themselves and your not leaving with it. Prisoner.
hey valky i cut this little montage as a humerous little idea since we noticed how much No6 tends to hate women and smolder with men! I take all your points about conformity. The gay overtones are not indeed off point however, they are a bit of fun, one of the main aims of the film! And its worth remembering that serious though the issues are raised by the programme, it was designed to entertain not instruct. Its a fun show lets not lose our sense of humour!
@fragiles78 According to McGoohan the series was a parable about human freedom and the individual taking responsibility. Without having lost my sense of humor it's hard to compare it with, say, the Brady Bunch. I also thought the women he "hates" were sent to spy on him and break his will, along with the men--none of whom become pals, either. He's actually extraordinarily protective of the eastern European woman w whom he "escapes" in "Chimes of Big Ben." Great compilation, though.
look how its creeping in, survailance, ID cards DNA, they have of you with out you knowing if you go into hospital, credit cards, phones , internet bugged
prisoner is great but ..... but todays society is so worse whats it going to be like in 20 years PLEASE TINK ABOUT IT !!
Yeah the way that montage was put together I can see where it could be read that way LOL although in the show itself IMHO it's a mistake to read any political agenda in it except for the elimination of the individual self and repression of ones freedoms,
The Prisoner is more timely than ever these days.
He he he. You've made it the gayest show since He-Man! Before He-Man, I suppose. Still incredibly homosexual, though, and kinky with it. "You will take six...of the best!" LOL. Good stuff.

To this day, Patrick McGoohan has been married to the same woman for the past 56 years...
McGoohan does come through somewhat as a misogynist in this series.
Much of this was due to the fact that he refused any romantic scenes to be written into the final shooting scripts of The Prisoner.
So, maybe he's just an "over the top" straight guy?
