what?! insead of birging the arcade version(all 3 charactes, 2 players ,1 stage more) or the GBA version(arcade vesion with the alpha versions of the characters as bonus) they bring the horrible snes version, at least they could have done a double pack and include "final fight guy"a diffenrent version for snes with guy instead cody and little changes like power ups , different enemy placement and new intro and ending to explain the absence of cody
Ahh, the old two player thing. I had the same reaction when I downloaded Double Dragon on the VC. I thought it was a two player cooperative game, and when I found out it was Mario style, I was not happy.
Hands down, the best home port is on the Sega CD. It retained all of the characters and enemies from the original and also added the bridge stage. I believe it had a time attack survival mode as well. I had it back in the day and loved how faithful it was to the original with some added bonuses, such as cheesy voice acting during the intro. The 2nd best console port is the original arcade version on the Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1 for the PS2
Take a look at the sega CD version. It allowed you to play as all 3 of the characters that were in the arcade cabinet. You also get to enjoy the 2-player function. I really don't know why Nintendo used the butchered SNES version for their virtual console. A straight arcade port on the virtual console should have been possible as well.
@oxe161 Wow, I think you drank too much hater-aid. Telling other people what to call the version that's on the wii is kind of a pathetic attempt at oppression.
Rinrygamegame, about grabbing the enemies in Final Fight, I hit them first to stun them. I then grabbed them. However, your strategy of approaching them from the angle could work. I just did not think of that one.
I loved the beat 'em up style games such as Final Fight. I was surprised that you were able to cover the origin of the certain characters in Final Fight, but this is the good video game history.
I never really like the first Final Fight, i don't know why, anyway, you should play Migthy Final Fight for the NES, while the concept is the same, IMO the game is much more fun.
Good video BTW "Hello Mr. Mayor, Oh noes" Lol, that was funny.
the ps3 version kicks ass. you can play co-op online, the music is revamped and there are the original 3 characters to choose from. It also retains those hot somersaulting girls :)
I loved the "reenactment " of you guys realizing you couldn't play it on two player. xD
Some of the text that would appear while you were talking was a little distracting and I missed what you said (or what was read) but I still like it when you do that stuff. It just works better when it's directly flowing with the same thought as what is being spoken. There's just critique for ya. ;)
I guess I was thinking of other stuff. But yea, I know what you were going for. It usually works really well, and it does here, too. I'm just being honest about what it did for me, personally. ;) Still great work as always.
@rinrygamegame the absence of the girl character in this day and age is unnaccaptable. Nintendo should be ASHAMED for this shit, they deserve all the despise in the world.
Buy the game on xbox live instead. They knew better than to fuck with us just because we've been fucked before.
It's also dissapointing how capcom take it so light-hearted. Why not fight for the rights of your fucking creation?!
This was a surprisingly thorough and professional review. That statement comes from someone who viewed this vid embedded, btw.
Final Fight is indeed a classic that ruled arcades in my neck of the woods in the late 80s/early 90s. I'm not sure if you've checked out any of the other old arcade ports that were butchered on consoles, but SNES and Genesis had plenty.
Anyway, keep experimenting, keep reviewing, and more importantly, keep gaming.
If you guys want an awesome Final Fight for the SNES, get Final Fight 3. Not only does it have Co-Op but it also has CPU Co-Op, so if you don't have a friend you can still play Co-Op with an A.I. partner.
I love how NOA had the game censored to remove the "woman"-beating action and the names Damnd and Sodom changed, but the doors in the first part of the slum say DICK on them
@syxx573 This. Better graphics, two-player, no censorship changes (Sodom, Damnd have original names, all trannies are left intact) and Magic Sword thrown in as a bonus.
Good review. I found it very helpful that you actually went into what's good and bad about the game rather than just giving a description and opinion like most reviews do.
Okay, so when I was a kid I used to be able to omgwtfPWN this game. I don't know why, I was just really good at beat 'em ups when I was a kid.
Anyways, I'm bored the other night, so I fire up Zsnes and get down to some retro gaming. I figure "I still game regularly, I can jump right into it", load it up, and get my ass stomped out by level 2.
I wanted to nerdrage all over the place but I kept it under control. I can't believe I peaked on SNES when I was 11 LOL
the sega cd version of this game so much better. The opening scene has voice acting, music is way better, two players, has guy(he is the third character), and all 6 levels.
Another great video, keep up the good work. I'm surprised you didn't mention this was Cody's first appearance before moving on to Street Fighter fame, though.
there was a very similar game on game boy advance called final fight one, in that one there was an extra character which was supposed to be cody's friend :S
I had was barely able to read the text about Guy before it disappeared. Also it was a bit hard to read that and listen to your voice at the same time. It would have been better if you explained his absence through speech as well.
Also this might just be a personal opinion but I thought some mention of the coop mode in the original Arcade version and the censored character names would have been nice.
Funny, I just got all into Streets of Rage 2 recently, great game. No nostalgia needed for enjoyment!
The controls are similar to FF (run into enemy to grab), it's kept at 2 buttons to make it more accessible I guess.
I really miss the old 2D sprite stuff, busy playing Metal Slug now thanks to friends recommending it (can only vaguely remember playing it in arcades as a kid), I'm just blown away by the graphics! I'm really amazed how well some of these games hold up...
If you thought this was at least pretty okay, I'd actually really recommend the SNES Batman Returns, which is very very similar in gameplay, but quite a bit more fine-tuned.
They are also coming out with a port to XBLA and PSN called "Double Impact." Unfortunately it isn't a retro revival like "Bionic Commando Rearmed" but the same Arcade game only smoothed out and with remixed music, but it does come with another game "Magic Sword."
no mention of mighty final fight for nes or the squeals? The one for the nes was darn hard too but at least it let you level up like in an rpg. I enjoyed it more than the super nintendo version. And yeah the arcade was 2 player, and the 3rd for the snes is 2 player also. The 3rd is the best in terms of game play. There was an arcade at a nearby pizza place unfortunately I think they sold it. Its just not the same going there and not hearing the music to it and the bad guy's evil laugh :(
wait you had no prior expericnce with final fight one of the best beat em ups ever?! oh and b4 i let this go...TMNT......(WAIT FOR IT) SUCKS!!!!! GAME SET ME BACK A FEW YEARS.
Nah.. I believe you.. I keep forgetting the age difference. I literally grew up with Final Fight at the Arcades. I can tell you many stories. I remember the feeling seeing FF on the SNES for the first time... Like I also remember seeing how lazy Capcom was with FF GUY.
But I was never prepared for the Sega Cd Version. Back in 93, the console version of a game was always inferior to the Arcade version. Capcom went overtime with the port of FF on the Sega CD!! Check it out if you have a chance!
This is another great, solid review by you two and I'm not just saying that because of the Two.P part :)
It's a shame that Final Fight had to be one of Capcom's first SF/SNES games because it could have been a two player game if they had more time to work with the system.
Fantastic review! Awesome! One of the best I seen in a long time! Great humour and very informative! You pay attention to the details and funny as hell. Are you going to review games for playstation 3 as well?
Jot's shirt looks like it says ... "I'm With The Stupids"? That's what I'm getting.
Oh yeah, I really enjoyed the video. I can only imagine what else lies ahead in this area (the opening seemed to tease you possibly reviewing Axelay? Bring it on!). I loved the bit about 'Two P.' ("Did I just kill you?" *sad Ninja Gaiden music*)
nice video as always. I like the concept of non-nostalgic reviews, as it gives a fresh perspective to games that not all of us played back in the day.
I take it that this game came out after Streets of Rage because the whole time I was watching I was thinking, this is a bad rip off of Streets of Rage.
Well to start things off the SNES Port of Final Fight is. In my opinion Terrible, The graphics and sound hardware suffered a massive downgrade I don't think Capcom knew what they were doing. the elimination of the 2P Mode was dick move for Capcom. and I think the removal of Guy was also an odd move.
I've played Super Mario Bros. 3 for over 15 years now, and this is the first time I saw the secret at 0:24 ! This game keeps surprising me! *Just had a huge FFFUUUUUUUU moment!*
You think you could review Final Fight 2&3later down the line??? Trust me, one you play those, you'll never go back to the original, plus, the other 2 have co-op, something that this version lacked!!!
If you access the options menu you can asign the special attack to button A if you enable the extra joy option.
One game that you really need to check out is Mighty Final Fight for the NES, surprisingly it has some of the things you were asking on the review, new abilities as you advance, more specific enemies on the level and for god's sake the special moves on it are just awesome.
The SNES version was butchered with the missing levels and lack of co-op. Final Fight CD was where it was at.

The SNES/Wii Version Sucks. The Arcade one is 2 Player, the Animations are much smoother, and you got 3 Fighters.
And the Reason why you grab without a extra Button, is because it sucks.
Punch, Go Right, Punch Go Right, Grab. This Technique works perfect but with a Extra Button just for Grabbing, it whould suck.

A PS3 review is in the works right now. Thanks for watching!

Do you know if Shining in the Darkness is available? If so, could you guys review it?
CeruleanFawkes 1 year ago
Back in the day I had a friend who had Final Fight and we'd argue over who'd play first. When we couldn't decided we'd go to the arcade. Good times.

I bought this game for the SNES, thinking it was two-player. Finding out it was only single player sure sucked the fun outta this one :(

Deth280483 1 year ago
Well to start things off the SNES Port of Final Fight is. In my opinion Terrible, The graphics and sound hardware suffered a massive downgrade I don't think Capcom knew what they were doing. the elimination of the 2P Mode was dick move for Capcom. and I think the removal of Guy was also an odd move.

Used to play this at the arcades with my brother back in the day; never owned nor played the home console version :)

Any idea what the "extra joy" in the hidden options menu does?
CommanderZx2 1 year ago
It actually assigns the special move to the A button. That would be a good thing... if it wasn't secret!!
rinrygamegame 1 year ago
Nice, I like I like.
Pipoca19 1 year ago
Yeah, it being for one player only sucked.
If you access the options menu you can asign the special attack to button A if you enable the extra joy option.
One game that you really need to check out is Mighty Final Fight for the NES, surprisingly it has some of the things you were asking on the review, new abilities as you advance, more specific enemies on the level and for god's sake the special moves on it are just awesome.

to me, the best versions were on the SEGA CD, and the Capcom Remixed on PSP (perfect port on handheld FTW)
