  • Nice video! If you dont have version 2.46 there's another way to do it. Just select all the edges you need, press ctrl+E and select mark seams. That works the same way.

  • I made an object and divided it up each side of it with seams so it should be able to unwrap each side completely flat with no stretching but it doesn't, it unwraps it and skews it into a circle.

  • Nice tutorial. But do you know what to do if your image doesn't load up? (I'm trying to use a JPE file with a blue box by it when you're about to load it up but it doesn't open...)

    if we cant hear you, we cant understand what you are doing, without comprehensible audio, this isn't help.

  • Your tutorial is WAY easier than reading the blender manual, thanks man! Though I'm going to read the last half anyway to make sure I have the texture export part down (the last part of your linked tut). Just wanting to say thanks for the sharing, I might do same later.

  • hi dude.. is there anyway i can use mirror symmetry to lay out seams?

  • i think if you were to model a character using a mirror modifier and then unwrap it before applying the modifier the seams will be mirrored, either that or the seems will just overlap eachother and you just have to paint one side.

  • i was trying to render the object after i unwraped and added the texture, but it just shows blank.

  • You have to create a material and add an image to the texture in the material settings and set it to uvs.

  • i still dont understand, try to use simpler word. and one thing that is really bugging me is how do you get bones to work in the game engine, i know you can use the action window in the game engine pert but it still wont work, a lot of people are having this problem and if you can tell me how to fix it i would be very happy, thx

  • i'm back lol, ok, i'm using 2.48a and i can't unwrap my object like in 2:26. all i can get is the box w/ a vertical line. i can get the image up but it just tiles across the object. can u help?

  • when i started using blender, there website had an AMAZING set of tutorials on how to get started. But they were only good tutorials for versions 2.0 and 2.1 around that area.

    You can also find some awesome tutorials at several websites.

  • It would have been clearer if you had down the seaming in the solid draw mode. So that you could clearly see where you are putting the seams

  • Then Seams will alow you to do it still. There is a way to select a whole like of vertices instantly. I don't have blender with me currently, but i can check it for you the moment i can!

  • Audio quality was lacking, but otherwise, this was the best UV Mapping tutorial I've seen yet.

  • im having a problem.. idont have "uv face select mode" anywhere on my blender...my blender is the current version + i have python 2.5... any1 know whats wrong

  • in the latest blender you don't have a uv face select mode. all you need to do is press "U" while you are in edit mode and the same options come up

  • if your using blender 2.46 (and 2.45 it seems) UV face select mode is just edit mode.

  • Hold alt+shift to select the seams. and make sure to Right click.

  • Nice to hear this, it would be very useful, i'm quite good with pure modelling, but i still have to learn how not lose too much time in UV mapping. I can do it, but i guess there are better tecniques than those i'm using now, seams and so on

  • Definitely! If you would like, i could even do a tutorial on how you might go about unwrapping a full character model, weapon, or whatever you think would help!

  • I'm currently developing a VG, and i'm experiencing some difficulties in unwrapping meshes without too much stretches, because i use blender materials to generate the skins and when i mount the various pieces of the model, let's say of my starship, i need to improve my texturing/unwrapping skills to avoid stretches and/or hide the seams of the model. That's because it is a quite big model, 1km total lenght. Anyway your tutorial should help me a lot, i'm trying to hear it again with louder volume

  • One of the downsides of blender is that if you don't find a tutorial, more than 70% of the use of the program is hidden. In fact i was totally unaware about placing seams, i had to manually select the faces i wanted to unwrap and then unwrap them from view. In fact this is still easy with non-organic meshes, but with organic ones it would have been a pain. Thanks to the seams it should help a lot to save time and detail
