Wow, people are stupid commenting on last generation cars having more power. Thats not the point here. They want to make a sexy beautiful exotic looking car with an environment friendly vibe. Its not meant to pull up and race another sports car. GET THE POINT!
It's basically an electric car with a generator in tow. You're going from gas to mechancial to mechanical to electrical to electrical back to mechanical. I'm not sure how efficient that is when you're just cruising along a long stretch of road.
With as many steps that are involved, such a method is very efficient. That is why hybrid get better fuel economy. The gas engine won't have to work as hard and can keep a more even pace. This increases efficiency. Besides, like the Chevy Volt, the Karma runs on battery power to begin with.
if i could get it in a non-hybrid version that would actually be reliable and cool... id buy it. untill then, the hybrid powertrain is going to hold it back. shame.
I apologize. Also, for the record, $87,000 is still a very premium price. I know that part of that is that this is a luxury vehicle, but do we really think that this technology is cost-effective?
It's fast enough AND I think you'll make more of an impact pulling up in a Fisker Karma than a Honda. I've had 5 japanese motorcycles in my life. I used to go 172 miles all of the time, so I like a rush. I've had a vette convertible, I've had a M6 convertible, etc., my point is rarely did I ever use the power in those cars. I got more of a hard on being recognized when I valet my cars at the restaurants. Horsepower is over rated
why not? 400hp is 400hp, plus its electric so its instant, not like a V8 that has to build RPMs and only peaks at max power for a short time. so what's not to like?
Hybrid is not the future, it's just a small phase. Karma looks really nice and will be built in Finland :) (will still cost us double what the U.S will pay for it)
I'd be skeptical to spend over $80,000 on a completly new car but I am fond of the styling. I wonder, will they be reliable? I suppose Time will tell.
Nice Fisker! I would prefer the other's though based on the mercedes SL500. Although I love the desig and interior on this one just as much as the SL500 version.
perfect car best of both worlds

People people the whole idea is that it is green AND sexy. 50 miles on just electric then if you need to the generator comes on.
Performance guilt free and no one has to die in the middle east for oil and we reduce CO2 levels helping ameliorate global warming. What a bonus

0 to 60 @ 5.8 seconds
Top Speed @ 120 (maybe 125) MPH
Honestly, you can buy Hondas faster than this thing...not to mention diesel German luxury sedans.
That thing is a gimmick.
Wormtail81 3 years ago
It goes 50 miles with no gasoline at all. That's no gimic.
millertym1976 2 years ago
It costs somewhere in the neighborhood of $150,000 dollars. That is a gimmick, at least for now.
Also, you misspelled gimmick.

The video states the price as $87,000, almost half of your assumption. Next time watch the video before you comment.

What I'm saying is that they should not call it a sports sedan. A last-generation E-Class has more pull than this thing.
Wormtail81 2 years ago
960 torques at the rear wheels seems like a pretty sufficient amount of pull
ahusain06 2 years ago
It only has one gear, so it takes 6 seconds or so to get to 60 and tops out at 125.
