I purchased the Sony DSC-HX1 a few months ago. So far I am quite pleased with the performance, esp the results of the video feature when recording video at 1080p HD.

they always make these videos seem nice and sharp, but then when you do it it goes blurry ;O but nice features is 10fps mode and full HD, if it would have High speed mode it would be touching perfect !

im comparing two cameras. the panasonic fz35(sensor size 1/2.33 - 12mp) and Sony HX1 (sensor size 1/2.4 - 9.1mp). which has bigger sensor? And which of the two has less shutter lag? newbie here.

o gawd, simpy listing specs with no research is no good:

1) it records only at 1440x1080 and then upcodes to 1080p, so it is NOT 1080p, although it IS better than 720p

2) 10 fps burst, with a max of 10 frames

3) etc. specs are there to confuse so read the reviews proper

@evilsnakes1 720p is pretty good, and for it to be between 1080p and 720p is excellent considering the camera is for pictures primarily. 10fps burst is amazing. Most cameras do more like 3fps. What exactly is bad about that? just askin.

Not "bad", just not as good as they suggest. Video on this cam is better than 720p, just not true 1080p as they publish that it is (with a fine print disclaimer). The burst mode IS really good too, but they mislead people into believing that it isn't just a burst mode, but the standard fps. What they also don't say is that after the burst you have to wait a few seconds for the buffer to write to card. And I do note that a big part of the problem is lazy reviewers, rather than sony itself.

HELP....i have this camera but neither of my computers will play the videos. both computers are new so i think that is not the prob..i do not understand..this is an awesome camera, i just cannot play the videos on my computer..not with wmp or quiktime...sucks ..anyone know how to solve this problem....thanks

usually if a computer can't read a video it is a codec problem, happened to me too, just updated my pc with most up-to-date codecs and things went running smoothly again! ... just a suggestion!

I had the same problem at my Windows PC a month ago, but fortunately, I had the Apple QuickTime Player. This can play the video.

dont buy this camera!!!! its around 500$.but the image quality sucks. you can get a canon rebel xsi for the same price. the only thing your paying for is the reolution cause its 9.1 mp. but its really shitty

Dude, I saw it for $349 on Dell home a couple of weeks ago. A rebel xsi is way more expensive and obviously way better (being a DSLR).

no i made a mistake its a rebel xs which is in the same price range but is so much better with the skin quality and the contrast i know some one who bought this camera and no matter what i could not get the contrast lower and has shity skin quality

Funny, professional camera reviewers say this camera is good and that it´s recommended. It also won a TIPA award for best superzoom.... Btw, the xsi or 1000D as we now it in Europa is a low entry budget SLR. With no feateres at all. Plus it has a lousy kit lens. For a good lens it will set you back for another few hundred euro´s/ dollars.

yeah but its not all about zoom its about the picture quality and plus the lens it comes with is just fine and you are right when it comes too the lens, because you would have to spend an extra $200 for a telephoto lens but it has way better quality and color tone.

If you are considering the Sony HX-1 or Canon SX1 IS, you should also consider the Casio EX-F1 because it has a focus ring around the lens, a external mic jack, a hot shoe, a threaded lens for UV filters, and slow motion (if you want a fun bonus). Hard to believe it's from Casio. The problem is the price.

I bought mine yesterday. Very nice camera, no where near SLRs regarding image quality, but fits my needs perfectly.

The in-camera panoramas work surprisingly well, as does the 10fps burst. The ability to automatically take couple of shots with different settings in difficult lighting conditions is handy also.

I just came from the Sony Convergineer 2009 product intro at their head office in Toronto and was really impressed by this model! What a step in the right direction for Sony! I can't wait to own this camera!
