Prince could have easily done a video for this song. He was rehearsing SOTT in the stage at the (at the time) new Paisley Park studios, full concert, filmed, no audience, there's evidence... yet Prince didn't do zilchers. Why? A good way of getting back at Warner Bros execs who cut down the Sign O The Times album down from what, 3, 4 LPs?

Prince was like, yah... no promo video... hows that!

WB had the patience... this shit sucks, but they had to do it to get MTV play! It was a joke.

Second, Prince had problems with WB at the time after cutting down the near 3 album set, which was actually even more than that, down to a two record set. WB had reservations with releasing a 3 album set which would of been about $24 or $30 in '87, soon after the slightly dismal sales and success of Parade. Bring it on.

The opening lines were very important when this song come out in March 1987. The point being that the big disease with a little name did not just happen to "GAYS" as the media were reporting at the time. Very clever of Prince. This is one of his best songs - after talking about the world problems - he still has time for romance at the end of the song.

He always appeared to be accepting of anything spiritual including his own spirituality, whichever or whatever that was when the songs were written. I really wish he'd go back to more of the old-school sound. I miss it terribly...
