  • all you critics of Ernie.....how much have YOU won in bowling????? to earn over $1 Million in PBA winnings, to be in the USBC Hall of Fame....to sacrifice your life for life on the road logging in 100's of thousands of miles, not to mention sacrificing a normal family life.....and have such a great style.....he deserves all the accolades ......haters here are just ignorant

  • I have almost the same release - the high hard heat (speed) with not much meat (not much of a rev-rate), but it brought him to both the PBA and USBC Halls Of Fame, didn't it bro? I patterned my game after him years ago. There is an old saying out there: "KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid", and Big Ern did, to 7 titles including becoming the oldest player to ever win a major title (1996 ABC/USBC Masters, June 1996)

  • To be honest, this should have been Randy's win, not Schlegel. One of the worst breaks in all of bowling, and it had to come in the 10th frame.

  • I might have cleaned his clock, but maybe not. I'm vocal like ernie but not like that.

  • This guy Ernie Schlegel SUCKS.I mean to be so happy of a win because your opponent has left the 8-pin which is the biggest tap in bowling is just not fair not good, and not sportsman.

To those who spit at Randy Pedersen's game :

1-let's see your 13 career PBA tour titles

2-let's see if you missed the pocket only on your 1st shot and got bad breaks such as the 10 pin at 1 of his frames, and in your important 10th frame a solid 8.

  • @tisho91 Ernie Schlegel did not suck. In fact, back in Brooklyn in his younger days, he wiped people out of money with big time pot games. When he was on TV, he was always a very tough opponent. He did not make as many finals because of his straighter approach which would leave him more corner pins on longer oil conditions but given he was good with that old school shot in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and still is today using plastic, urethane, and reactive urethane. Ernie was a hard bowler to beat.

  • @tisho91 You're right. I would so pissed to have won $40,000 cause my opponent left a a stuff 8. I mean, I would probably have to go ahead and give him the title cause I felt soooooo bad. Schlegel would CLEAN you out in pot games you ever bowled him. Yeah, the sportsmanship was clearly lacking, but Pedersen was no Lady Bing either in his day. Which, was about a 4-year stretch. Then what happened, did he forget what he was doing? And he wasn't exactly burying it either. They were WEAK 10's

  • yeah, randy doesn't think so.

actually, randy belongs to that stone 8 he left to lose the match.

  • ernies reaction at 6:31 is almost scary; i think i heard him say i am the greatest. When you consider its just a game, the gamesmenship and enthusiasm is fine albeit selfpromoting, love ernie.

  • Look at the last shot on the 10th frame of Ernie he almost had a solid 8 too

  • I dont like Ernie, but i am haft to say that randy had a lucky strike in the first frame. and all of ernies strikes was pure, and he also had a ringing 10 pin in the 10th. so overall ernie bowled the best game.

  • 7:31 DISS!!

  • i dont think ernie meant it tho, this guy gets so psyched its like hes from another planet. i seen him bowl a few years ago in pba seniors open and hes still psycho and entertaining.

  • Ernie is a real prick. He is a shitty bowler, he got lucky.

  • I wouldn't mind having 7 PBA titles including an ABC masters win, 2 senior tour titles, and numerous regional titles

  • @irishpogi And both Ernie Schlegel and John Handegard are both in BOTH the PBA and USBC Halls Of Fame, and they both got there throwing nothing but what I like to call "the old high, hard heat with not much meat" (a lot of ball speed with not much of a rev-rate), and I do too. OLD SKOOL 4-EVER!!! All hail THE REAL "Big Ern"!!!

I mention Ernie Schlegel's shot in my "20 Questions" page of my official website, BIGHMW (dot) com, I will be updating my site soon, I haven't done that in years.

  • Why would anyone like that idiot! Talk about being a gracious winner.I'm surprised that he didn't take his towel and rub it in Randys face.

  • what an interesting match. both were bowling well. the last frame highlighted the contrast of the styles. the sharp breaking ball vs the relatively straight shot. the sharp breaking ball perhaps chopping off the the 8 pin and allowed the straight shooter to win this match!

    Inspiration for old guys!

  • a stone 8 pin isn't directly related to the entry angle of the ball, but rather the location of the ball as it's hitting the headpin. If the ball hits the headpin too high, then the headpin could deflect off of the right side of the 2 pin and push the 5 pin out of the path of the ball, thus giving no opportunity for anything to hit the 8 pin since it's the 5-pin's job to do that. Ernie could've just as easily and unfortunately left one instead of Pedersen. It's like flipping a coin.

  • best match ive seen so far....9 spare or strikes for both....back and forth and the ending....priceless.

  • ernie gets so pumped i love it hahaha

  • is ernie dead yet

  • He's alive and I'm sure he lives a far better quality of life than you do.

  • hmmmm in a nursing home?

yeah i'm sure he's living well off insuline and a walking frame

  • Why do you dislike the man? I admit that Ernie wasn't my favorite in the 70's with his awful flamboyance at times, but the guy is a great bowler but now looks pretty normal. Am I missing something about the guy?

  • he still bowls regionals actually and does well

  • hey Sam i wouldnt bowl Ernie for $ still, even at age 65!!!

  • lmao ernies nuts. for the old people wtf lmao im cracking up. great guy tho

  • and ill tell ya, ernie and his wife are like satan and the unholy gatekeeper in everymatch.

    creepy... lmao

  • another good call

  • So...what, he's believing it or what?

  • Randy Pedersen blows another one

  • he blows another one? He made a perfect shot and left a solid 8. He should of had this match. He didn't miss the pocket and made shots when he had to.

  • Yeah, Randy rushed the shot just like Ernie did on that lane earlier in the match. He should've looked first. When you throw a perfect shot like that and leave a solid 8, that's usually the result of a bad rack.

  • LOL at this guy!

  • i dont think he believes it

  • Sure Randy's not the coolest guy... But Ernie didn't have to go that far.

It just adds to how he treated Voss in the earlier match... And Voss is a great guy, right up there with Duke.

  • Ernie shows that bowling is for us old guys to. Thats why I love bowling. FOR THE OLD PEOPLE !

  • I liked that Ernie won too but 52 is NOT old, it's middle aged.

  • swear ernie is retarded

  • lol, at 3:03 you can see a priest in the crowd

  • LMAO!

  • Ernie sucks!

But he looks really cool in the 70's... =)

  • ernie is kinda of an ass for his nonstop talking, i feel bad for pedersen

  • wow randy looks like he was about to cry right there ....ernies hells cool man

  • What great form you have Ernie... NOT.

  • What do you do Jaggflop? Let us know or shut your mouth about Pedersen.

  • its funny coz thats exactly wot u should be getting

  • That's a real tap!!

  • I think pederson was throwing a Quantum Fire

  • Wow! This brings back memories. I am great friends with his daughter, Darlene. That was a memorable night. Ernie is truly entertaining and is a great bowler. No doubt about it.

  • Randy sure got robbed on that first shot in the tenth.

  • I always thought that the appearance of the lanes in this match seem much shorter than normal.

  • Schlegel has always been a funny guy. He used to yell things like FRUIT SALAD to the pins all the time. He a great bowler and his act is just that, an act. It's not to be taken personally or too seriously. Just sit back and enjoy the ride that is Ernie.

  • Track logo is rare in PBA. Schlegel is a oldest bowler to win the title?

  • No, I think John Handegard, who won a title earlier in 1995, was a few years older than Ernie.

  • I believe he was 57 when he won his title.

  • You must be talking about John Handegard, who won the Northwest Classic during the summer at the age of 57, Ernie Schlegel (as of this telecast) was 52

  • @dunner228 im pretty sure it was buzz fazio at age 54, 55, or 56

  • @pbateson , john handegard won the 1995 northwest classic against mark williams to become the oldest player to win.

  • @homefieldbowler yes, and at the age of 57 at that, a record that still stands to this day. But, when it comes to the majors, Big Ern holds that record all to himself, winning here at the TPC at the age of 52, and winning the USBC (formerly ABC) Masters in June 1996 a the age of 53 defeating defending champion Mike Aulby. I wonder if anybody has footage of that Masters title match or maybe the4whole TV show that they would like to share with all of us die-hard bowling fans (and bowlers too! :) )

  • Aaarrgghhh, Schlegel is such a prick! If you want to intimidate your opponent then do it with your game.

Despite the vicious 8-pin and the outcome which doesn`t please me one bit, thank you for posting this!

  • Schlegel got ripped with the 10-pin in the 10th, so I think they were even. And the way Pedersen yelled at the guy in the crowd after getting tapped in the PBA National a few years back, he's not exactly an angel, either.

  • I don't like either of them.

  • Comment removed

  • @dunner228 that was the toc

  • Unbealivable end! Never seen such a tight match!
