  • I understand that this was just a demonstration. Can anyone tell me if any compliance was involved? It looks like they perform front rolls when thrown..like throwing themselves on the floor when grabbed; is this indeed the case or is it pure leverage involved?

  • @namorfilus Thanks for sharing, I'll research it further

  • It's amazing that I never came across this style before. I like that they use full force and resistance in a sport format.

  • Really enjoyed this. Thanks for posting.

  • this is very good

  • I've trained under Aikikai for 14 years.I have no doubt that it can be used on the street, gang fights, bar fights etc. but nobody have any idea if it can be used in a ring fight, MMA of UFC fight. Some martial artist said it is a waste of time training aikido cause it is not practical enough for a competitive sports. It is because nobody have use Aikido under a sport competitive fight or in a famous MMA & UFC'S.It might be wrong & taboo to used Aikikai in a competition but can it be done?

  • @syimang I doubt it and here's why: no one in a competitive setting is going to try to lunge punch you in the mid-section or grab your wrist without pulling you off balance. Try going to a judo dojo and extending your hand to be grabbed. You will notice that as soon as the judoka grabs your hand, even if he is a beginner, his center will drop and he will move with you. If you twist his arm, he will let go and get a better grip. Just some thoughts.

  • @syimang I doubt it can be used in the UFC as the rules prohibit small joint manipulation. Surely enough outside of a sporting event where the participants are not wearing gloves and grabbing and shoving is involved, as usually seen in real fights, Aikido might have a chance.

  • @syimang (part 2) It think it is important to remember that it is a spiritual martial art not a particularly combat oriented one..and was used along with ju Jitsu and sword play by the Samurai: Therefore it is unfair and unrealistic to expect Aikido to work all by itself without integration with some other fighting form

  • This was a very good video. I don't practice this particular style of aikido, but it was interesting nonetheless. The energy of the performers was excellent. I enjoy seeing young, enthusiastic practitioners.

  • @cora3713 thank you very much

  • @aikivaxo It is always interesting to see another style of aikido rather then my ususal style

  • Nice randori at the end there!

  • i would like to see this done on the streets.. or to a person from a diff style...

  • it's been done...the evasive footwork alone would make the average guy's head spin

  • Those demonstrations are just that DEMONSTRATIONS as someone that has used Aikido when working clubs or personal, protection details, aikido can be nasty. I say that as someone holding Dan Rank in Karate & Judo ( and also done Muay Thai ) When real, it looks NOTHING like that. I have no axe to grind, I am not some Aiki Zombie with a hard on preach the virtues of Aikido ! I am a hard core Judo guy !! I used to think it was BS too ! It made all my other techniques & arts work better !

  • Hmm. Why is almost every waza ending in a tobi ukemi? And a lot of unnecessary multiple balance breaks. Once you've got them, throw them! Don't just break their balance over and over! I spy a bit of showmanship :P

A good demonstration though. They obviously know what they're doing. The young 'uns were great!

  • To a point you are correct, my main style is Judo but my instructors there were ranked even higher in Tomiki Aikido

( btw Tomiki Sensei was Kano & Ushebia's senior student.) You always plan on multiple balance breaks, assuming you'll miss. Reality is, on the first one you will throw him ( more often than not ). Or as I found when working personal protection & doorman, at that speed they throw themselves.

  • aikido rules

  • you don't know this tomiki and SA has competitions. If only cooperating the competition does not work. I agree with you some of sensei are faking however also know not all of them are like that...

  • Aikido is a complete joke combining brainwashing of its practitioners with bullshit moves that only work with cooperating opponents. Thats why you only see Aikido in "demonstrations"

  • I don't think it...'cause some UFC fighters are teaching street fight technics based on Aikido...like Bas Rutten (who sad aikido don't work) find this video " Bas Rutten Fight Techniques 5 Street Aikido Jwf "...i understand that people don't like this fight, but say shit it's too much...aikido doesnt have championship

  • the last fight was amazing

  • Those kids are better than I am! D:

This looks like a lot of fun, though. I wish I was good enough to do demos like this.

    Some day...

  • It's the proof that aikido works on a ring, too

  • Congratulation! It's a very beautiful video. Very martial! And the children are very strong!

  • What is this? Some kind of dance?

  • It's a demonstration, not a dance

  • It is a nice demo. I am aikidoka too, but it is not about beauty, it is about funcionality. Sorry for my bad eanglish.

  • wow! Outstanding!

  • nice demo vid. of Tomiki Aikido I took Tomiki Aikido from 97-2004 I now take Shinbu Aikido check out a few of my vids.

  • Whats the differences? Do you think its more practical than judo?

  • to me the practical out look on it is not the style that matters it is how you train that matters. ie #1train in a way so that you get to go home after a fight.

#2 train just to be doing it or just to have some trophy on the wall

I hope you see my way of thinking, meaning some one may die during a fight.

  • You are 100 % correct, I have seen some old guys, that were taught INFERIOR Karate style with BS techniques ( that today we would say belong in a McDojo ) and are still with it and some tough dudes because of how they trained. They don't waste time with Kata everyone stretches on their own time before & after class. They do some HARD CORE conditioning and then they FIGHT A LOT !! Then they fight some more.

  • 3 groups consistently left alone and not F;d with: Boxers, Wrestlers, and Judokas because their "practice" is closer a genuine fight than many black belts ever see from other places.

  • good demonstration

  • Outstanding...(rei) That is good Shodokan/Tomiki Aikido, keep up the good work.

  • ვაჰ, რა მაგარია,მეც მომინდა!

  • Nice demonstration, I thought the children were very good.
