What I really like about Kelly's movies is that he always paints strokes of the 80s on them, even when the film is about the future and made nowadays. It's there making you like " I saw that in a movie from the 80s". I really liked "The Box" until it went to a real flop with the alien stuff towards the end. This one, although takes time to understand, I give it an A for effort.I also like to see the guys from D.Darko in this film.

Apologies to all who believe Richard Kelly is a clever and brilliant satirist, but "Southland Tales" is just a collection of pop references and bastardized scientific concepts wrapped in a "plot" that would get a failing grade in a fifth grade creative writing class. This film wants to be a post-postmodern masterpiece but ends up instead as the "Epic Movie" of the sci-fi genre. Maybe someone smarter and less self-centered could have pulled it off but that person is definitely NOT Kelly.

The trailer is actually exactly like the movie. It's a comedy-drama adaptation of the Book of Revelations, but there's 50 subplots that only connect in Richard Kelly's head. One of the more important subplots involves a messiah who doesn't poop because his body is operating at 100% efficiency (because he's the messiah). However, it's worth watching because it's a truly unique movie -- a very rare thing. Plus, Gellar and the Rock actually give very good comedic performances.
