  • This video is for the original iPhone. If you have the 3G, 3GS or the iPhone 4 you will need to find a different video.

  • what a crazy video!!!! How is this useful?

  • Scrolling text makes very difficult to follow this useful information. Bottom text could've done better.

  • can u describe exactly where is every connector located - i need to reseat the LCD one cos i get the white screen of death quite often.

  • am i suppose to change the ditizer...cuz my screen was cracked and i replaced the screen from ebay and the touch sense still dosnt work...so im not exactly sure what to replace...can someone please let me know....thanks

    i have a iphone 3gs 16gb

  • How come when I text vertically my delete button isn't as responsive?

  • while seperating the lcd digitizer from the board i accidently pulled of the parrt where the home button is located & ripped the ribon n other then that i did everything good but wont turn on so do u think its the Ribbon Keypad Port Flex Cable?

  • Also, what could be the problem if the back light doesn't turn on ?

  • @luvlex99 make sure all cables are connected / broken backlight

  • when putting back the four wires to the mother board, does the first wire have to be in order and be the first wire to be installed ?.

  • @luvlex99 it does not matter! just make sure that all cables are connected again

  • Comment removed

  • how do u connect the usb?? do u have to push it in at certain distance???

  • @andrewlee1126 you just need to push the flat ribbon cable in / have a look at it before you remove it

  • Good Video. tglynx where do u get your parts from?

  • @william2240 ebay ;)

  • 11 people did not like the scrolling text

  • @jesusj93 that does not matter much to me ... in fact i dont give a shit! ;)

  • so if my iphone screen in not responsive then the digitizer is mes up n i would have to replace it?

  • Perfect video, will try it... the music is perfect (i don´t like the music but seems perfect to te video kkk)...

    Thanks!!!

  • where did you buy the digitizer? My screen is cracked, and the top half of the screen is unresponsive.

  • why the fvck did you decide to scroll the text OVER the video???? this is ridiculous, people want to see what you're doing and the text is blocking the way!!! horrible video, yet made with good and useful intentions.

  • @laurapodkapova yes i know, i did not spend much time with it.. it was just an experiment ...

  • relax your kacks

  • Does the digitizer include the backlight? I need to replace my iphone's backlight

  • @MilkMan778 the backlight is part of the LCD ... if you have a 2g it is the same thing as in my video... if you have a 3g you could also change the lcd only...

  • so there are several parts for the screen. the lcd and the outer screen. but i dont get it! what parts do i need. i ruined two different parts accidentally because i was being stupid. i broke the outer screen that has the digitizer and i also broke the one under that

  • when i turn it on it has to be connected to the computer then it goes on the apple logo and turns off and on and off. Any help?

  • i have a dead strip will replacing the digitizer fix this?

  • I'd like to know that as well. My 2G probably has a malfunctioning digitizer, since no amount of resetting and/or restoring will make the screen respond to anything. However, the glass and LCD panel are fine, so if possible I'd like to avoid having to replace those.

  • you can try, but on a 2g it is very likely that you break your existing LCD while migrating it to the new digitizer (and break the new digitizer as well ;) better get a combo replacement part... on a 3g i would guess it is possible to searate those two...

  • So is it simple to replace the digitizer and use the original glass? Most videos I've come across are of broken glass or glass with digitizers.... Also, there aren't many good videos on how to open up the Iphone 2G, whether from the back or just from the front..... You think you could help out with that?

  • i bought the digitizer, lcd, front screen seperate. no adhesive was involved to make whole assembly. Put everything together and works 98 percent. the digitizer works but then after 45 sec it stops. I turn off and and turn back on the iphone and the digitizer works again.

any idea on why the digitizer acts on and off like that? you think i need to glue the parts together. your assembly looks all in contact. If so what glue do i need??

  • now when i connect the 3 cables back to their holes, do i need to glue them back on or just attach them without glue?

  • do NOT put glue on the contacts please ;) you dont need to use any glue to reattach the cables...

  • do u have like a business were you fix these b/c i would be really happy if you could fix my iPhone iam having the same problems yours did.

  • @PearlPlayer26 no, i did it just for fun, it still works today... ;)

  • @PearlPlayer26

I live in Texas and I know a company that can do digitizer repairs but they run a free diagnostic first to determine what the problem is...they are called Global Repair Solutions

  • @RKMichael do u know if they have a website or something?

  • @PearlPlayer26 yeah they do

  • I followed your instruction and it was succesful, but now it is TURNING ON ITSELF and NOT CHARGING, NOT DETECTED by a Computer. I've tried to plugin wall charger, computer to charge/detected by computer but there is no success. Also it get very hot. Please help me to solve this problem? is it something wrong with the new digitizer?

  • you should disassemble the devie again and recheck all the connectors. it sounds as if the flat ribbon cable from the usb port has not been connected correctly... hopefully you did not damage other parts... good luck!

  • changed the digitizer and now it works!

  • @IBRiZZZ glad to hear it worked for you! ;) happy new year!!!

  • ok so i dropped my phone the other day, it still works i can see the icons fine and i can touch everything and work the phone, but it has a huge crack. does that mean i just need the glass or do i need a digitizer too? how do i know if ii need a digitizer and where can i get the parts i need

    ?? please help!!!

  • just the glass mate

  • @ricky40082 look for one on ebay, i got mine for less than 15 bucks :D

  • can you send me a link for the ebay item

    I really want it..

  • my touch screen wont work! About 50% of the time it will read my finger but the other 50% it wont register my finger. You think its a digitizer problem? please help!

  • yes! digitizer broken!

  • so? it will work again once i replace the digitizer? will read everything?

  • @IBRiZZZ you can not say that by 100% but in most of the cases yes! is it a classic (2g) iphone or a 3g / 3gs

  • iphone 3g, i bought it off ebay, but it seems like im getting a refund, but if not i guess ill have to try this :(

  • @IBRiZZZ also try to do a factory restore (software) first... if it is a 3g you only need the digitizer part without the LCD ...

  • the factory restore is holding the hold and main manu button at the same time for like 10 secs right?

  • I took my iphone apart b/c the digitizer broke on me anyway i cant connect to my usb now i was wondering how you do it. Simply i was wondering how you connect the usb wire thing which is stuck to the iphone case and connects to the motherboard. Thanks

  • the flat ribbon cable (usb) is the first one you should connect to the board... just insert it into the appropriate port on the mainboard...

    What exactly is the problem?

  • what's up with the creepy music?

  • @lyssipos just turn the volume down... ;)

  • Hi. So i dropped my phone the other day :'( and the upper part of my iPhone does not repond anymore :( people are saying that i should just get a new phone bc it will cost a lot to get this fixed...is that so? Please let me know. btw i have the older iPhone..the 2g.

  • where is that music track from ? who is it ???

    thnx

  • @TheEvoss sorry... i dont know.. its from youtube´s audio swap background music library... for sure its free music :)

  • Hey I have a similar touch screen phone (Samsung Instinct) and I dropped it and it broke. The screen appears cracked inside and I can still see the icons a little bit. The touch screen is still working, I can actually answer my phone. Do you think I need to replace the lcd or digitizer or both?

  • Great video TGLYNX.

    I have a question.

Half of my bottom screen does not respond to any touch but the upper screen works. Would I just need to replace the digitlizer? Can it be the motherboard that's causing these problems? Thank you so much!

  • Hi, if you have a 2g iphone you need to replace the digitizer and lcd combo (not possible to separate those two on the 2g). If it is a 3g iohine you can replace the digitizer only... Your problem is the digitizer... Most likely :)

  • Thank you for your reply. You're very helpful!

  • I have exactly the same issue, and I don't know what should I do. Any help ? Is there any way to fix it without buying all (screen + digitizer + front glass) ? thanks

  • SupremexYub, it's not the motherboard.I changed the motherboard in mine, and the result is the same. The problem is from the digitizer. Did you get any solution ?

  • I got it repaired easily for 120USD(which isn't bad at all)

The diagnostic result came through with a broken digitizer. So what I need to get replaced was the glass/digitizer and the LCD (since I leaked some type of oil residue and stained the LCD screen).

Try u breakifix.c om. there service is really good and reliable. They'll go through the procedure with you and have a 24hr turn around time which mean you can get it withing a day.

If you have any other question, message me.

  • Where did you get your digitizer? I just need a digitizer and not the lcd. i don't want to pay for both.

  • @Jiggahata1 so you own a 3g or 3gs iphone? this is the digitizer replacement on a classic (2g) iphone... you cant change the digitizer only on a classic iphone...

  • Great video! I replaced my broken screen on my iphone 2g. After replacing it the phone powers on. But it does not respond to any input. What could be the issue? The home button doesn't work either but the power button does.

  • Sounds as if you forgot to connect the flat ribbon cable! Carefully reopen your phone and check all connections..

  • i have a 3g and i replace the screen including the digitalizer and the process was excellent but after putting it back together it wont power up. what could be the problem? thanks!

  • unfortunately i have no personal experience with the 3g as my 3g and 3gs still works fine :) (knock on wood) ... check all the connectors (power on button), check battery power...

  • I got a question, I've dropped my iphone 3g...alot.. and finally cracked my screen. Then a few weeks ago me and my best friend were wrestling for my phone and i was gripping it really hard and my screen cracked even more and deeper ones too. Also my entire screen became no longer responsive. So do u think this problem is the digitizer? Im getting from ur vid and comments it i but i want to make sure.

  • sure.. in te video it is a classic (2g) iphone... if yours is a 3g you can just change front glass and digitizer... should be fine then... make sure your lcd is ok and has no scratches :)

  • i noticed it was 2g after i commented but i seen other vids with a 3g so i know how to take it apart, actually already did that a couple weeks ago but i need to order the parts. so i get a new screen and digitizer. u know a good site to buy the stuff i need?

  • what is the digitizer exactly

  • the digitizer is a small layer between the frontglass and the lcd. in the classic iphone (some call it 2g) it is embedded in the front glass which is glued to the lcd. therefore it can only be replaced in one piece (as seen in the video)

  • what is the digitizer exactly

  • the digitizer is the device which recognizes the finger touches...

  • idk if i need a new digitizer or not?

    But my iphone wont charge.

and it cant be recognized by itunes.

when i turn it on it shows the silver apple logo for 15 seconds than turns back off.

    its pissing me off...

  • this sounds as if you would need a new battery. Is it a classic, or a 3g / 3gs iphone?

  • ummm..

    i have a 2g i believe.

its the one thats all silver back and than has a black antenna cover.

    but its really annoyin me.

How much is a new battery and where do i buy one?

    thanks

  • this is why the 2G and lower didnt break - digitizer was cemented to the LCD as one unit. the newer ones are not - easier replacement for what will break much much quicker (it took probably dozens of falls for my 2G to break the glass... the 3G broke the first time, in 2 days)

  • u wanna fix my 3g ?

  • sure, but i am in europe! i also have some more experience now :)

  • oh man thats probably gonna be expensive

    nvm but thanks for replying

  • I got an iPhone 2G with a broken digitizer (just the lower part of the touch is working, without cracks) and a separated digitizer bought on eBay. Can I buy just the LCD part and "glue" it on my spare digitizer to fix the iPhone or do I have to buy both together?

  • yoru gonna need to pick off all the glass and digitizer and glue on the new one. search up torninger87 and follow his video but take off the digitizer as well. i think if you just have the digitizer on the lcd and glue the glass on top around the black bits it should stay where it is.

  • omg ill buy it from you thats crazy how you learn all of that my iphone digitizer is cracked on half of my screen can you please fix minds

  • I like the music, who does it? I would like to purchase this type of music.

  • i am sorry, i dont know the name of that title... it was one of the free titles available in audio swap here on youtube ...

  • actually i think it would be a good song to listen to in a sauna while relaxing... i choose it randomly...

  • hey there i have a question how do you take out the frame from the old screen?

  • heat the edges with a blow dryer until it loosens up the glue and slowly pull apart

  • well one more question and thanks for your help what happends with the little black tubber on the old screen how can i get one for the new one?

  • Comment removed

  • how do i kno if my screen is cracked of if my digitilizer is cracked? on my phone the thing on he very top of phone is cracked

  • you need to replace lcd and digitizer if it is a 2g phone... if it is a 3g you only need to replace the digitzer (if the lcd is not broken also)...

  • i have the iphone 2g with a broken digitizer. is it possible to replace the digitizer only without having to buy the digitizer and lcd all in one set? and if so, how do you take off the digitizer to the 2g iphone?

  • gnaaaaaa.... for 2g you can only replace lcd and digitizer as combo! ...

  • I hate those videos with music and no voice! don't you??

  • yes, i do :) but i am too scared to talk... sorry...

  • tglybx why is that on some iPhones half of the screen works but, the other half does not? What makes that to happen?

  • its just because the digitizer is split in to sections. some times the upper one goes, sometimes lower. or both.

  • what if i replaced the glass screen and when i put it back together everything works except for no sound comes out of the speaker. music or if im on the phone. wtf

  • check all the connectors again!

  • is there only 3 connectors that have to go back on right? All I did was take the screen off and replace it. everything works but that speaker. i dont get it

  • hey man saw you had a lot of knowledge with this so thought i would ask you a question... i cracked my screen originally so just got a digitizer then replaced that and lcd cracked while doing it so got a new one and replaced it now when i turn it on it turns on normal and stays on the black background and white apple screen for around 5 seconds then goes off everytime any idea what has happened?

  • You probably cut too deep into your phone.

  • check if you connected everything correctly. also make sure all the buttons work and are not stuck. ... if that does not help go to dfu mode and read out boot loader messages to find out what happens...

  • At the start of the video, do i have to remove the glass that is stuck to the lcd screen with a knife bit by bit? or will the glass just seperate from the lcd easily?

  • Btw, i plan to keep the lcd screen and just add a digitizer

  • do you own a 1st generation iphone or a 3g/3gs? for 1st generation iphones please note that you cant seprate lcd and digitizer without breaking them! ...

  • Yes mine is a 2g. When you say without breaking them, do you mean breaking the glass? Is it possible to remove the glass in anyway?

  • for the first generation iphone you can only replace lcd and digitizer (with the glass) in one part!

  • what is the thing thats glue onto the glass called

  • i need to replace a 2g screen and now ive found out a digitizer.

I bought the outer glass and broke the LCD screen while replacing it, so i was looking on ebay for an LCD screen so i could use it but have found out it doesnt come with a digitizer,

can you buy a lcd with a digitizer with out the glass or do i have to purchase them all together?

  • please read the other posts.. i would suggest to buy digitzer + lcd (with glass) (the glass is the digitizer!)

  • can you buy just the digitizer or does the lcd come attached?

  • you can buy them seperately

  • you can, but they're scams....lcd and digitizer are laminated together

  • gotta buy the pair...no other way

  • i was looking for a replacement screen and on ebay it said digitizer no included, i need the lcd screen thats all, what is a digitizer?

  • the digitalizer is basically the "glass" infront of the actual LCD.

  • thanks to youtube anything can possibly learn.

  • so i got a 3g iphone and the screen is completley cracked, and when i turnit on the screen stays black but you can see it light up. i plug it in to my computer and teh software is all good, except the screen, and on ebay they have a LCD GLASS TOUCH SCREEN REPLACEMENT DIGITIZER with tools and instructions on how to replace the screen/LCD/digitizer. is that what i need to fix it?

  • if it is for the 3g, then yes ;)

  • help me just this once plz....

everything works fine now except for the volume control buttons and vibrate/ring switch....

they just wont respond no matter how often u press them...

  • you forgot to connect the flat ribbon cable of the back cover!

  • it wont work even after i tightly connect it...im buying a new assembly for that one

as for the wifi cable, instead of gluing it on there, im thinking about using some solder on top of it to hold it in place

  • and no it will not let me do a restore it is totally unresponsive to anything now

  • so i repaired the screen and now my iphone wont turn on when i push the power button and it turns on and off by itself do you have any suggestions?

  • open it again and check all the connectors!

  • i have openned it multiple times and checked the connectors and they are all in place i think that maybe my motherboard went bad or something

  • hey does it matter what order you attach the digitizer and stuff to the main board?

  • 3 questions...

I replaced digitizer, it just displays stuff but wont respond to touch...what should i do?

also, the wifi antenna cable wont stay on the iphone because the spring thing got lost.....how can i keep the antenna cable connected?

and while fixing the phone, the three wires attaching the battery accidently got pulled off....

should i just resolder a new battery at the same spot?

  • 1. sounds like you missed conecting a flat ribbon cable

    2. which spring thing?

    3. just solder the battery back in (you could also use the old one, why not?)

  • there's a problem with the white antenna cable, the twin wires and are inside it...

i push it back into its spot and it doesnt stay there like it should. all the other 3 ends stay, just not this one...

and about the battery, i think i should use a desoldering wick and and use new solder

this is bcuz those soldered wires got ripped off the comm. board

  • sure... use new solder... regarding the antenna cable... you could try to glue it to the connctor like it originally was... you should use the right glue for that of course or aou could change the connector (this is difficult)!

  • thanx,

i think i should use something to keep the cable in place, and maybe use a hot glue gun to drop it onto there

or what if i used solder to keep it in place?

  • wheres the best place to buy a combo screen/digitizer from???

  • i dont know where the best place is, but i got my parts on ebay...

  • i have a first gen iphone and i opened it up to replace the batter and i accidentally broke the main antenna what can i do?

  • buy new main antenna? :)

  • ok how should i go about buying one of those and could i break any others by putting that one in cause i know they are really sensitive?

    thanks

  • Ok my Iphone fell in water so the touch screen does not always work. I know this is the digitizer, but I am confused as to what part to purchase. Do I need the complete combo with the LCD screen or can I just get the digitizer?

  • if it is 1st generation iphone you shouldgo with the combo... if it is a 3g you can just buy the digitizer...

  • i just gotta say here, apple products seem to be somewhat infused with nintanium, that is, they're almost as durable as nintendo products, they feel solid in your hand, no cheap plastic feeling like a lot of other media players

  • mine is also broken in the upper part, where did you get you digitizer? i dont want to buy a screen+digi but only digi

  • if you have the classic iphone you should buy the combo. its hard to separate those two! i bought mine on ebay! (also see other comments...)

  • i dont know its too risky, what if somethings wrong with the mainboard or something else, i waste like 200 bucks

  • great job!

  • i dont think so. non of my own iphones was ever broken. this digitizer died because the iphone fell into the water. i just repaired it.

apple and microsoft also have a very different business model - this has nothing to do with this video ;)

apple has nothing to do with the replacement parts, you should be better informed before posting a comment like this ;)

apple does not want you to repair the iphone yourself!

the iphones touch screen is great! ;)

    >what a joke!

    yes!

  • well thank you i am now convinced that i dont want to put the new sensor glass on my phone (its not broken) i just want a color change not a slew of cursing for 2 hours while i figure out how to get that ribbon i just cut replaced. ill just replace the back it seems less dangerous.

  • on the 3g it is not that difficult to do! this is the first generation iPhone! (classic iphone / some call it 2g)

  • Brilliant!

  • what did you use to stick the new on to the frame

  • nothing... ;)

  • cool so does it just like stay in place?

  • do you have to glue the antenna cables or do they just stick on

  • they stick on ;) ... the glue is just for safety (to be sure they stick on) ;)

  • ok i have a 2g iphone.. the bottom of my screen didnt work for a while so i replaced it with a new lcd and digitizer.. but now i get no responce on the screen ...could i have conneted something wrong??

  • do i have to restore my iphone?

  • Quick question, my screen is cracked, images look fine and it responds to my "touches". Is it easier to repair if I purchase the LCD display cover / lens glass + digitizer with flex cable and connector (one complete unit)? Or should I just replace what's broken, which is the glass? I have no problem repairing it myself, I just want to keep it as simple as possible with whatever is going to give me the least amount of steps with the ending result being a working phone with a NON cracked screen.

  • is it a classic or 3g iphone?

  • It is a 3g

  • I just replaced my screen/digitizer and it's not too bad however, you do need to take your time. Though my screen is no longer cracked I did accidentally "bump" my LCD screen. There are a few steps a lot of these videos leave out though! I had to figure it out on my own.

  • Ok I have a ipod touch 1G and my screen has been cracked. The screen still works (I still play games on it all the time). So I'm assuming the LCD works, but does this mean that the Digitizer also works?

Do I need glass with digitizer or just the 2G Glass?

    Thanks! :)

  • If the screen and touch capabilities both work, don't bother trying to fix it. In the 1G/2G the digitizer, glass and LCD are epoxied together. It's nearly impossible to separate. You'll be out $150 if you try to fix it yourself.

  • theres is a way easier and cheaper way to fix this.....take it to an apple store and they'll exchange it

  • that is true if you have warranty for the phone and if it is not fall damage ;)

  • thats true but why pay 150 for a new digitizer when you can get a 3g for 200?

  • for the fun ;)

  • aha sounds good i guess

  • yeah you can get a 3g for 200 if you sign a new contract and pay an extra $10 a month in internet fees...i JUST went out of my 1 year warranty and my lcd is now FUBAR...it works still but there are spots on the bottom right corner and side where you cant see anything..it SUCKS, and if i had just purchased the applecare for $60 i would have been fine, but my warranty ran out feb 4th..DAMN IT MAN

  • unless it was your falt it broke, or if it was opened, or if it is cracked, or if it is unlocked or hacked

  • Does anyone know a cheap place to get the new digitizer and all the other parts I am going to need for this? I found places for 150, but nothing less.
