The police told them to get on the sidewalk and then stood on the sidewalk. Its all a bunch of bullshit and I see that guy (the one that got beat) at almost every protest and march I go to and he always seems to be peaceful, so f the police. this is not cool at all.

There's also a very real risk of people being crushed by a crowd that has been forced back by mounted officers. You're right, they should not be using horses in this scenario.
