A lot of us here have driven log truck and we like to think of the good old days but watching him bounce around coming down that grade made me happy that I'm retired.
I was wanting to see how they loaded his trailer because there was no way he was going to back up that grade with the trailer down.
@rockinpiano1 the 980B shown in the video would put that trailer on by swiveling the trailer bunk 90 degrees and side loading it. You could end load it to by releasing the compensator and sliding the bogies to the far rear.. Often a dump loader has a hook on the grapple jaw front.
@gangesexcavating I see, said the blind man. Thanks for the info. Agnew Timber Company had off highway trucks in the Brookings, Oregon area back in the 50's, 60's and early 70's. They were single drives, as I remember, but they could get 25,000 to 30,000 bf on a load. I know it was impressive when you came around a corner and here one came, it looked like the whole forest was moving!
They dumped across a cement brow log into a pond. The pond is gone but the cement brow log is still there.
@rockinpiano1 you would have to swivel the truck bunk 90 degrees as well and drop the trip pin. Leave the one side unfolded and load the trailer by the lifting loop. Its done quite often. Its done around here like that quite a bit.
Not sure whos show it was. Canadian was flying into Shute lake and it was coming down to the sea by truck. They were finishing up the job there. We did some towing for them there then had charge of thier barge to Prince Rupert and on to the Nass river were they flew logs to our barge. I have video of early helilogging, I well put some up a little later on......
This was in 1994 it would have been George Munson then. I think... i believe it was Bear Creek logging. We were under charter to Canadian helicopterAt the time.
When in the cab, every bump and tilt of the truck is amplified 7 fold! Trust me I know.

@rockinpiano1 nothing moves wood more efficiently like a good off-highway truck except for a railway, and we have that too on Vancouver Island.

Nerves of steel and knowing your job well for sure.

You wouldn't want to loose the brakes on that decent.
