@JoseJimeniz Correct. These are extreme crosswind landing trials of the Boeing 777 in the mid-'90s. A couple other test 777s had Cathay Pacific livery. That is a common practice; in fact, two All Nippon Airways 787s were used for 787 certification trials. The first of them get delivered to ANA next month.
Some of those landings were really extreme, but I wonder if any of the planes could have been in an automatic mode? The landing gear must have taken a significant abuse. In Alaska where pilots fly old planes, they must turn the plane parallel to a runway just before a touchdown.
Those were indeed some interesting crosswind landings.
I loved crosswind landings when I used to fly. Gives that little extra adrenaline rush during landings. I never had any though where I was facing 45 degrees to the runway. Looks exciting
Not just tests. This is a common scene at the airport by my house. The airort is in the middle of a wind corridore and when it gets bad this is what every plane landing has to do. IT si a sight.
this is called cross wind landing, pretty much every pilot knows how to perform this, how ever, only a hand full are trusted and considered highly skilled to be allowed to fly these airplanes.
It's painted as "Boeing 777", rather than an airline. i assume these are test pilots, putting the Beoing 777 through its paces in crosswind landings.
