In the recent era Thorpe is on a similar level to a small group with the likes of Kitajima, Peirsol and Hackett, but of course he and the rest of them are clearly behind Phelps. They're all great in one area; he can do almost anything. There has possibly never been such a dominant performer in any international sport.

@MrWalto69 this race wasnt between Thorpe and Phelps if you know ANYTHING about swimming . it is between Thorpe and Hooganband . 200m free was never Phelps race until he decide to make it his race . in 2007 Phelps broke the world record WITHOUT any fast suit ( like Thorpe used one ). Thorpe peak time was in 2000 to 2002 even so his time is almost less than 2 seconds compare to Phelps best ( without suit)
