Definitely a lot less scary.

In SRW F and F Final, Amuro Ray proves that Brightslaps are contagious: sortieing Amuro and Shinji together in several missions causes Amuro to make Shinji stop being a winy coward and grow respectable amount of spine (this will exclude the "End of Evangelion" route and it's resulting bad ending).

In a later installment, Shinji does the same with Kira Yamato. Yes, you've read that right: Kira Yamato needs Shinji Ikari to tell him to stop being a wimp.
