  • OMG he dissed Derrick (Jensen)! lol a well deserved hiding

  • What he's saying isn't so dire once you compare the US with other countries. I was told to kiss off completely by Australia immigration, for having a non-contaigous, non-life-threatening, physical condition. This was for a 70k a year job. Conversely, in the US it is controversial how illegal immigrants are treated, and I have a Chinese collegue whose 2 kids are US citizens.

Regardless of what he's saying, other societies are not more open than America.

  • @zlotyz There aren't any cartoons and bubble thoughts for them.

  • I wish this had more views

  • 38:42 "If things deteriorate ... then you can be sure the elite will take care of themselves, they will retreat into gated communities where they will have access to services, goods, and security that will be denied to the rest of us."

With a journalistic career and at least nine books to his credit, surely Chris Hedges is in the elite category, no? At any rate, he would be welcome in my gated community. :)

  • LMAO at an American publisher offering to take the 'negativity' out of a book before being willing to publish it. God help it that readers hear the truth, their day/outlook might become unsettled. Aww, poor babies.

  • Go read the comments portion of any associated press article, on the internet, and you'll find out that everything this man says is true!

  • Fill in Stephen T Colbert as your write-in choice, for all offices (or at least the unopposed ones) on the next ballot.

  • Very very good

  • I love Chris Hedges, which makes me all the more shocked to see him fail to realize that the Beats and later the Hippies were a virile rejection of corporate consumerism, which began as an homage to art and intellect and ended up being coopted by New Age spirituality.

  • @richzubaty New Age spirituality and religion practically destroys everything. Religion comprises of thought-terminating cliches and groupthink.

  • @richzubaty yes I noticed that too. It is the hippie lifestyle that is about avoiding giving money to corps and it is turning to spirituality that helps people deal with problems not seek cures fom corporations with pills and giant bills. It is growing your own tomatoes rather than caring if they are in the store. We willl have to embrace the hippie lifestyle to move away from corporate control. Free energy and community. Peace, Environment, and Spiritual growth aka enabling a full life.

  • @zlotyz calling them tea baggers means that not even watching and reading everything this man has done will help you.

  • Fantastic interview! Thanks for sharing!

  • 1984 is also about the failure of the liberal class.

  • @Gimmer3 im not sure of that

i think that book was an American Capitalists "Free Marketers" view of Communsim or Socialism

cuz i had to read it recently and there was a part when the govt police called the free market a "black market" so a free market looks bad in the view of the opressing govt..

  • Hedges indicts the Democratic Party, and those who believe that the political landscape is encompassed by our Dem/Republican food fights every four years. That illusion, among others, is how we remain enslaved to the corporate-dominated state. The voters are irrelevant to the big agenda items for the federal government.

  • The Israeli liberal class was a very strong force at the founding of the state. It obviously is impotent now. How about a historical following of the demise to see how Liberalism fails when not pushed by corporations but by the state.

  • time to wake up people...

  • I agree with Chris on what he says about those mega churches. I am utterly disgusted with those leaders who teach diluted truth (prosperity gospel), and do not give a damn about the truth or their suffering memebrs.

  • It would be great for folks to share this on facebook to get a wider viewing!

Speaking of hope, I believe mine truly died when I realized Obama was going to immediately cave to the military-industrial complex and corporations. So much for hope. I recommend Derrick Jensen's two-volume book called Endgame too. He focuses a little more on the inevitable destruction of the planet by corporate power. Not only the planet, but all indigenous people too.

  • @zlotyz I disagree. I think it should be required especially for everyone who think they vote for the left when they vote Obama.

  • @halneufmille, Amen. Obama's policies, in insisting that giving trillions to the wealthy will trickle down to the poor, echoes precisely the policies of Reagen - but are more intense, and wrapped in a facade of liberalism. Think about it: how scary is it that the "far left" in America now consists of people who promote policies that are a more radical version of Reagen Conservatism? THE AMERICAN LEFT IS DEAD.

  • Bush gave away all our tax money to a few rich bankers and according to his book MADE them accept the bailouts . Then Obama appoints Michael Taylor , Monsantos top legal mind , as "Food Czar to the FDA " . Now we have 10% unemploymnet and it is illegal to grow your own food under S510 . What has happened to our country ?

  • Hedges is so right, all right. Another sobering reality is the fact that scarcely a month after this intensely enlightening interview was made available via the Internet to several hundreds of millions of English speakers in the U.S. and around the globe, there have been just 84 recorded reactions (at least at this site), most of those merely as "likes."

  • GOOGLE truthdig.com article on arrest of Hedges and Ellsberg at White House protest 20101217

  • better start learning Chinese

  • HUAC was getting there info from a secret group of Nazi's in the government. They were evacuated after WWII by our gov't and the Vatican.

  • Excellant journalist. Thanks for the video

  • I love Hedges, and this is the best interview or speech I've heard on YouTube. Great work.

  • Comment removed

  • @zlotyz lol like they would sit through an hour of someone not saying how great america is every 10 seconds? i haven't heard him say "god bless our troops" yes and i'm like a third of the way through lols

  • Bankers, traders, hedge funders, Indep. Mortgage Lenders did what all the Marxists & Communists in history could not do, bring down the US economy. Beck tea Birchers distract the gullible away from Wall St thieves blaming Obama & reelect the ppl who caused this mess. Financial thieves knew that 08 was conceded to dems by republicans in order to deal with scheduled 10% unemploym't. Impossible. Hedges like Nader, lives in the past signaling the rise of the anti-Koch anti-tea birchers
  • Sobering, and just what we need to help us all wake up out of the Trance we've been in most of our lives. Keep honing your powers of critical thinking, question authority, and make a lot of noise. It's now or never, folks. Thank you Chris for all you do, and for holding the line while too many Americans cave in or float off into la-la land.

  • At 43:30 the most fascinating exchange, Hedges has the opportunity to express his identity, beyond the intellectual level or outer affiliations. He has the oppty to declare his vision of the nature of human existence, i.e., the nature of his own experience of the mind. And that is his greatest talent in my opinion, is his understanding of the subconscious mind and the ability to communicate it.

  • Thanks for the video.

  • Very good interview, thank you.
