  • this is where the deftones got their vibe from... thank god for this band.

  • See, kiddos? Guitars only need six strings to sound fucking heavy.

  • Neither broadcast television nor the internet are big enough to contain this band.

  • it's possible this is the best song ever made...

  • Good music was only made in the 90's. So fuggin awesome.

  • Damn the 90's were awesome :(

Screw getting old, for real. This song rocked hard as hell and still does

  • The wear on their guitars are freakin...damn!

  • i want to bring awkward shoegazing lo-fi back

  • There is too much rock n' roll going on in this video for one person to handle. I have to share this with someone.

  • digging the jean shorts. need me a pair. they'll be my rocking out shorts

  • I remember first hearing this song on the Howard Stern Show, back when he was on the radio for free (yes I'm THAT old). He played this song to death and arranged for Hum to come on the show and perform. I think he gave these guys major recognition. Howard had cool taste in music for a crazyperson.

  • @cazprescott9 Hell yeah! That was an insane performance. Stern was utterly obsessed with this song, and with good reason. They did a bang up job on his show.

  • Damn, this brings me back to senior year!!!!!! Oh no, have I reached the age, where I am now saying, "When I was young........" I MISS THE 90's xo

  • @glitterdust40 me to man, me to.

  • Weezer, Hum ITS ALL ABOUT NERDCORE PEOPLE :D

  • This song is 16 years old, I am too. I love it :)

  • Is that Milo ????

  • no seriously the guitarist is my uncle. tim lash

  • I love the shorts!

  • that guitar riff in the middle is EPIC

  • why is my uncle tim on tv?

  • lemme crank this shit

  • cobians not dead. just started playing with hum.

  • the big bang theory is real. there's proof at 0:41.

  • The guitarist is my Music INdustry teacher

  • @jjac15 I am Jealous

  • This is why I love this show, they bring the good bands on!

  • hell yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • HUM fucking KILLED it... They r in my top ten live tv show performance. They nail ed every cord, rhythem, tone and pace. How many bands have u heard on Conan or Letterman, or even Leno whos musicianship equals the record...live. NOT MANY.

  • why does this remind me of Chevelle?

  • @cvdpoel because you're the only person who knows who chevelle are?

  • @cvdpoel are you trolling? chevelle is garbage.

  • i get teary to this song. and i am a guy! lol

  • long live the 90's!

  • i though this song was gonna be slow as hell but it really picks up speed.these guys kick ass.

  • Great song! But my trained eye may be deceiving me but is this HD?

  • Good memories... Saw them live in 1996 in Hamburg (Germany). Bought the "Downward..." album on my 2 months trip through the USA in 1998. Found their "Fillet Show" album on a flea market in Berlin (Germany) in the early 2000s. Later discovered that Matt Talbott recorded a band that I liked. Somehow there was was always some Hum in my life in the last two decades.

  • was born 96 and dont remember alot of the 90's but damn i miss them ):

  • @InLocoParentis96 in the 2000's you were 5 years old.. -.-

  • @pedrok60 4*

  • @pedrok60 yeah i had a rough life and try to forget about the past. sorry..

  • in the year, 2,000!!!

  • As Howard stern said, they play like mental patients lol

  • Hum was the only band that can play out of tune and still be awesome.

  • Totally reppin' the Champaign scene with the Honcho Overload t-shirt...

  • wow they sound like a dying truck

  • @JollyRott3n that has to be a good thing

  • @D1M3NS10N11 You know what else is worth money? Making negative replies to comments on abstract YouTube videos at 3am... oh wait. Go find somewhere else to troll.

  • @SLMPproductions @predatordes Hiwatt and Orange heads (most likely 100 watts), both thru 2 Mesa 4x12 Recto cabs.

  • Wow this is really old Conan. Brings back some good memories.

  • this is a great song. if you like "wall of noise" music like this, check out "spiderland" by slint

  • And they don't make em like that anymore, my people...

  • WHAT AMP DOES THE LEAD GUITARIST HAVE

  • @SLMPproductions some kind of Hiwatt.

  • @SLMPproductions CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL. The singer has an Orange amp (that's the brand name too, not just the color) and the other guitarist has a HIWATT brand amp head, no idea what he's using for cabs.

  • wow, that guitar looks like its been through hell and back

  • @blahblah2018 That was "the look" for bands back then. lol Either buy ones out of pawn shops or chip and strip the paint on purpose, string the guitars without clipping them off at the ends, just letting them hang. That started to go out of style as the 90's came to a close. I kinda liked it, personally. But all of those bands more than likely recorded the albums with their nicer instruments though. The beaters were there for show.

  • Awesome!!!!! - Collected Thoughts

  • Sometimes I forget how long Conan has been on the air.

  • you gotta love those shorts. go put those on and play those gitar riffs, youll feel a whole lot cooler.

  • All that shred plus jorts. What more could you ask for?

  • All that shred plus jorts. What more could you ask for?

  • Yep. still one of my favorite songs to crank up the distortion and turn the amp up to eleven.

  • Thumbs up if you actually stayed up to watch this back in the day!

  • I was about 12-13 yrs old when this song came out, i dont care what anybody says The song is wicked good.Ive been singing this song for what will soon be 2 decades.

  • a tune-o-matic bridge on a strat... interesting

  • Is that Daniel Tosh playing drums, haha

  • Homeboys have some skinny-ass legs.

  • The lead singer to me looks like a mix between flake of Rammstein and Kurt Cobain.

  • There used to be a kick ass live version of Hum on the Howard Stern show but I guess it got taken down, sucks

  • I LOVE CHARTS

  • Good lord that strat is out of tune. Come on now, it's televised and Korgs DID exist back then ya know.

    Love the song though. lol

  • I was in first grade when this song came out and remember standing in the one-stall-inbetween-classroom-bathroom at my school and singing this out loud and assumed no one heard me... 11 years later this album got me through high school when I rediscovered the band. All time favorite band.

  • Anyone else think that Tim Lash's style kind of reminds you of Jonny Greenwood a bit?

  • Would somebody please build a fricken time machine and let me go back to the 90's.. uhh please!

  • Conan always had the coolest musical acts.

  • \,,/ \,,/

  • Man his guitars beat up great song though

  • Man his guitars beat up

  • at the last part you know Conan went over to the guitarist and was like,"Dude, that was the shit."

  • Matt was too nervous and would turn his back to the cameras and studio audience.

  • this song is beyond amazing

  • Oh come on, he's def rocking the Nirvana look!

  • y el niño yo no fui?

  • bart simpson?

  • DEM SHORTS

  • 1 guy thinks he missed the train to mars, he's out back counting stars

  • omg 90's alt. kicks so much ass

  • @themusicmatterz Yeah, I use to play this kind of music. Smashing pumpkins is from an hour from me. This kind of music was played by everyone when I was in high school. years before hum. It all started to sound the same to me. there wasn't any challenge in it for me.

  • @themusicmatterz

Avenged sevenfold could play this backwards.

  • @TJMonster51 Yes but they couldn't write it.

  • @marvinriscos give them a roofie they could. playing guitar is a one way street, you get what you put into it and can't fall backwards. These guys are not good guitar players by any means. If Brians wasn't their drummer, they would never even made it out of the basement.

  • @TJMonster51 I understand what you're saying bro. And I know how good A7X is, but I appreciate the songwriting that comes from Hum, I suppose they're very, very different so it's hard to compare them.

Although I do think that Tim Lash was very good at playing his own stuff. Especially the guitar in the background of the verses.

  • BaBa Booey!! Howard Sterns penis.

  • Meh... funny how these guys were total dicks on Howard Stern and then disappeared after this album.

  • Ha - You listen to Stern on Monday also :-)

  • @MattMonk I'm sure there's a connection. Don't cross Howard Stern, or be doomed to musical oblivion.

  • @MattMonk In all fairness, Howard Stern? ..I'd be a dick to Howard Stern too.

  • @Crackmandan Well... I can see why you like these guys then since the reason they did was for "street cred".

  • Nice shorts

  • no bullshit skinny jeans, slicked up hair, or argyle sweaters... just real music

  • I can't figure out why this video has got only 38 000 views...

OH. Yes. It's played with heart. Not for money.

  • Im fourteen and i want this decade back! fuck! );

  • Ya know Conans new show has this same 90's vibe of, "this stuff is awesome, and if you don't get it, fuck you!" I like that.

Shame about that Centaur thing for hum, what a waste.

  • Okay, for all of you whining and bitching about how "music sucks these days and real music was made in the 90s", here's off the top of my head:

De-loused in the Comatorium - Mars Volta,

    Demon Days - Gorillaz,

Trees, Swallows, Houses - Maps and Atlases,

There's No 666 in Outer Space - Hella,

Lost and Safe - The Books,

    Kirlian Selections - The Flashbulb,

Hail to the Thief - Radiohead,

All Together - Pattern is Movement.

There, found good 2000s music for you. Now stop crying.

  • @AEFic

Really? The only good band listed there is Radiohead. The rest of it is rubbish.

  • @boomshaka21

No, you're just close minded. :) Have a good day!

  • @AEFic Coming from a musician for over 15 years, I have to agree with Mr. Aefic. I'm sorry, but that isn't a good list.

  • @AEFic OK 90% of the list is TRASH with the exception of Radiohead. Who, coincidentally, made all their best music....IN THE 90's. That sir I believe is Check, And Mate.

  • @AEFic Hell yes, Hella. Let's not forget Sigur Ros and The National. I think most peoples' beef is that there's no good hard rock/alterna-metal these days like HUM. It's true. There's always Deftones, TOOL, and Poison the Well, but nothing like HUM.

  • Comment removed

  • Arrest those men! They're rocking out TOO HARD for television!

  • I love my 90's rock...god help the kids listening to the crap these days.

  • In 1996 I saw them live in Hamburg, Germany. Didn't know them at all when they were opening that Everclear show, and that night changed my life. 14 Years later HUM's last two albums still top my alltime favorites list and Everclear don't. So, thanks to the latter for introducing me to this awesome band. The best then unknown support act I've ever seen. Wish they'd recorded more albums, sniff.

  • conan looks about 12 here

  • This was WICD-TV in Champaign!!! Hum's home town!!!!! Am I the only one that caught this??!!

  • This was WICD-TV in Champaign!!! Hum's home town!!!!! Am I the only one that caught this??!!

  • @grfd600 nope

  • Brian is wearing a Jagermeister shirt!!!!!

  • Did a See a orange crunch head? Boy I that sound. They rock!

  • glad conan is coming back to TV. NOV 8 2010 this was the first time i heard about this great band, I watched it when it aired. HUM is a great band, as soon as I heard them, I went out and tracked down every single record they had and Blockbuster Music when it existed, here in Phoenix.

  • the guitars are so freakin loud. awesome.

  • the lead singer is my college professor now hahaha

  • @AntiLateralMusic r u fucking serious?!?!?!

  • @1Nirvanalover4 yeah man dead serious. I go to Millikin University and Matt Talbott is my Intro to Music Industry teacher.

  • @AntiLateralMusic dude that is crazy!

  • @AntiLateralMusic he teaches? no way! he is truely a great talent of the 90s generation of music along with all the other greats.

  • @AntiLateralMusic what university?

  • @jjc19461

    Millikin University

  • @AntiLateralMusic Tim Lash is my uncle. crazy huh?

  • Just starting to get into these guys now! love this song...the singer reminds me of Langley from XFiles! :D

  • why did the 90s have to be so badass? now the 2000s are just awful.

  • thanks a million for uploading this gem! Hum is one of the more unknown bands of the 90s and deserve more recognition! Great song

  • the reason they were so under rated was becuase the guys singing syle was so unusual and obscure. i love it, but everyone else is a customed to such common vocal singing types and its so retarted. thats how it is now a days. no one can be unique without being criticized. hum is too good to be this underratted

  • Watching the singer from 4:12 to 4:17 literally gave me the chills. how are they so goddamn underrated?

  • Love the glasses, nerd rock baby.

  • Raw, heavy, real... and realllly loud! Love these guys and have since the 90s. Sooo many bands have covered this song. Powerfully raw and simple. Awesome sh*t.

  • that distortion is brutal. amazing.

  • @DL973 CRANKED amps for the win!!!!!! amp distortion rocks

  • @puffdragon26 Lol actually they're using distortion pedals

  • That bridge riff is SICK.

  • Hahah!! this band is sooo cool!!! I think of space every time i listen to them.. they had such a great, original sound. Kind of rusty and distanced, just like outer space? Maybe in combination with those awesome guitar effects? haha, i dunno maybe im just really high. Awesome band though, one of my favorites!

  • if only i wasnt 4 when they broke up

  • The best band ever.

  • I got's to get me those cool speck's, how the hell did he keep em on while head banging away? The coolest sounding geeks ever. Love HUM. Sad we can never have this beautiful music again. 90's music the best ever

  • orange amp ftw

  • this is the first band that taught me the real meaning behind the words "guitar tone". They always had a HUGE sound. that being said i do wish i could hear more of the drums in this song. Brian is a horribly under rated drummer...

  • all mesa cabs!

  • I can remember when I heard this song on the radio. Jed the Fish on KROQ here in LA, played it and I stopped the car and was blown away. I called the station and request the name of the band again. I found their CD at Tower Records and I still have it. Even at 43, I still crack up the volume to their music. Long live Rock & Roll...

  • @jrwiccabear

what year is this from on Conan ?

  • Man, I like how Matt used his his kinda growly singing voice for "I found her out back," at 2:20. Just adds some more intensity to the song.

  • i used to watch this over and over after i taped it on vhs when i was 13 just like i`m doing now

  • 1 person missed the like button.......that person is justin bieber

  • @gothdude176

or at the very least, one of his fans...

  • @washwhatyoueat

1: 53, gotta luv those ferocious aggressive power chops on the guitar work

  • is that a jagermeister t-shirt on the drummer? haha. awesome!

  • Wish this was on the Conan live cd .... awesome!

  • i remember watching this live. also the 120 minutes episode that they appeared on. listened to this band then and still listen to them now.

  • It is amazing how happy a video like this makes me. I love it. The crowd loved it too! Would have been neat if Conan said "from their 1994 album...."

  • I was local to the Champaign-Urbana scene at the time and was fortunate enough to see these guys several times prior to this album.. it was a great scene. Sweet Honcho Overload shirt that the singer is rocking in this video! Check the station ID near the end too.. WICD was the local NBC station for Champaign, IL.

  • these guys dress good.

  • this is the performance where i first heard of HUM and have loved them ever since.

  • conan looks like A GIANT compared to them! hahaha like 9 ft tall!

  • I've been fans of these guys for 15 years and this is the first time I've seen what they look like.
