  • I had a really fast gtp too, beat quarter mile time of 12.9 on street tires. Dynod at only 308 horsepower but 387 torque at the wheels. One of the most underated cars ever and its also my daily driver that gets 32 mpg on the highway(if pedal is not to the floor haha). These cars come with 280 torque stock which is pretty damm good for a v6 grand prix from over 10 years ago. The only bad thing about these cars is traction. Im not a big fan of pontiac but I love this car and engine.

  • @smallblocksupercharg have him check his sparkplugs and lifters. I drove my car around without even knowing i had a Cylinder 4 miss-fire. once that was fixed i gained a ton of power back! now i have a lifter knock and need to get that fixed too

  • @barffboy217 well i had a similar problem wit my monte, turned out to that the threads for the rocker arm bolt ripped out, i had it helicoiled about a year and a half ago, and its been doing fine, the helicoil is about 2-3 times stronger than the original threads, just a suggestion

  • the lowest slightly upgraded tranny is around $1600 it's good for near stock cars then they have a fully built one for $3300 and thats good for all the 12sec. runs you want

  • You are incorrect on some of your information. 1. Yes the original 289 Cobra was originally an AC Ace but the 427 Cobra was NOT an AC. 2. The 289 is NOT referred to as a Cleveland, it was made there but is a Windsor design. 3. Yes the GT40 was created in the UK but what you do NOT realize is alot of American engineers were involved in the desigin and build of that car.

  • I dont usually get involved with flame wars. But I just want to point out that the L67 bottom end can hold up to over 1000 bhp. ZZP and intense have both done it. You have to remember that GM has been perfecting this stuff since the 60s when they introduced the Fireball V6. Even though the 3800 was a new design, it benefited form years of development after the Buick Grand Nationals. And some people just plain don't care for Mercedes.

  • Coupla things.. I just bought my '05 SL500 for about 60% less than it's orignal price, but that's because of the economy. From here on out, you're right, it will likely hold its value much better than anything GM. Second, you don't buy a stock SL500 to drag race. That's what an SL55 is for, against which the Pontiac wouldn't have stood a chance. Yes, an SL500 is ten times the car a Pontiac is, but drag racing is about one thing, the fastest time. In this respect, the Pontiac won, no biggie.

  • The reason SL500 fell behind is because the 315 HP car plus driver weighs about 4400 pounds so the other car probably had both weight and horsepower advantage and also gear ratio. I think in a 5 mile race probably SL500 will catch up. SL500 is an autobahn car not a quarter-mile race car.

Drive GTP at 140mph then you'll wish you were inside a SL.Comparing these 2 cars is like comparing Bruce-Lee with a tattooed pro wrestler :)

  • I've driven my GTP at well over 120mph.... and im totally happy w/ the way it rides at speeds like that, and I spent less than $10,000 on it.

  • You'll be happy with GTP at 120mph until you drive a SL500 at 150mph :) I paid under $13k for my near new condition 315HP 1996 SL500.

    Did i mention that it has 2 tops, side-airbag, automatic rollbar, CD-changer, 18"wheels, 5-speed auto, all leather, power everything++?

  • Correction: SL500 = 5.0 V8 + no SC + 4165 pounds + sticks to the road up to 155mph + higher gear ratio

    GTP: 3.8L supercharged + 3500 pounds + wind will blow it off the road after 100+mph + Lower gear ratio

  • Lower gear ratio = alot better acceleration. And the GTP does NOT blow off the road from wind if yer goen over 100mph. I had it up to 130 in Western Nebraska...where its ALWAYS windy cause of the elevation change when yer driving towards Wyoming. I never had any problems at 130 in that car out there in the great plains where theres nothing to stop the wind

  • Low gear ratio makes better acceleration but also makes higher rev at higher speeds unless the car has a 5 or 6-speed transmission. I had a 70 Roadrunner with low ratio and it was a monster at taking off but around 80 it started Reving too fast because of 3-speed trans.

  • agreed..Technically lower gear ratio simply means More torque less speed but the benz apperantly has 1 more extra gear. I dk what this kids talking about I hit 130mph on the GTP at 3000 RPMs and rode smoother than my ninja hitting 150

    its a 98 gtp coupe w/ an 2001 engine/tranny swap, 3.4" s/c pulley, p&p MAF, p&p TB, custom PCM, ngk tr6 spark plugs, 3" exhaust w/ magnaflow catback, ceramic coated headers, 9" K&N cone, thats it.
