Awesome thanks for making this. I'm on day two with inkscape so I'm pretty novice but this was a very good tutorial, I made a decent looking button first try.
How do you get the rounding node after doing the intersect to make the "shine". All I get is access to my points and their curve handels. I don't get the circle to round the corners.
First select your path or rectangle and hit Ctrl-J (or Path->Dynamic Offset from the menu). This will give you the handle that will let you control the offset with a single handle.
The object then becomes a dynamic offset. Be careful because it sometimes means it's a lot slower to move and pan this object, so once you're happy with it, turn it back into a normal path using Ctrl-Shift-C (Path->Object to Path).
I recorded this on linux using the recordmydesktop application (which is entirely free). The zooming effects are part of my linux desktop system. I use recordmydesktop to record all my screencasts.
Is there a written guide to this nice movie? I am unable to follow each step in creating the button. It looks so darn easy, but I get lost with the 'yellowish' overlay being cropped to the button..
what part where you cant follow... ctrl+shift+c then ctrl+j, maybe will give easier effect on smoothing the edges.. when cropping the part, the two objects must be BOTH PATHS.. not one object, you can see it on the status bar.. then ctrl+* will do the cropping or CHOOSING THE INTERSECTION of the two objects, i hope i gave you clarity...
i simply pause the video and drag the button back to the point of instruction i was unable to follow. that simple. dont fret and feel sorry. we can do it man.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'rounding hooks'... If you mean the rotation handles on the rectangle, then you have to click once to select the object and click it again to get the rotation handles. Don't double-click.. but single click twice. Leave a time gap between clicks. If you're asking something different just let me know.
If you mean the rounded corners on the square or rectangle, then what you need to do is create the rectangle and you'll see a small circle grip on one corner and a square one on the other. Click and drag the circle one while holding the control key. This lets you round the corners. It is only because I had created a rounded one previously that it did it by default.
i have been trying to make a logo, i have had my inkscape sitting there and i want to learn to use it well (i learned with illustrator but i forgot all about it) nice vid, it goes fast but its good
Drawing with the bezier tool is a little tricky for me too. But I use it to draw simple approximate curves - nothing that requires too much accuracy. ;) Not much help I guess. Sorry.
thx for the vid, i really liked it!

yeah sure. :)
I was looking at that and thought, a one-star? I know it's very amateurish, but one star? C'mon! :)
