You just know that when an uploaders comments say " from a UK Tellyvision show" ... that the uploader is American and probably knows nothing about music .....
The riff (and also some parts of the first verse) are from "Heaven On Their Minds" from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Super Star. Crispian then used the exact same riff in Modern Blues as well. A nice little tidbit, Crispian also admits that he's a fan of the musical.
I completely ruined my first guitar my trying to make it look like his guitar. stripped it down to the wood sprayed it and even lacquered a dragon pattern onto it. when i put it back together again it just never played properly rattled on nearly every fret.
Made me save up for a nice shiney new strat though and the old Encore was put in the bin :)
@PhatElvis7 FOOL - that just so happens to be one of the UK's finest musicians. His name is Jolls Holland, look him up if you have enough intelligence to.
@neworder25 That maybe so, but he's still a first class bloody wanker. Founding member of Squeeze, now there's a band that brings back fond memories. You Brits kill me with your typical ostentatious, pompous attitudes
I've followed and loved their music for a very long time their musical ability combined with spiritual and life views bring some real messages to a wider audience. You can take it for its music, its message or both - any which way its all great. Even though their latest album doesn't contain quite the same breadth of messages, its still great - still wish I'd seen them on their last tour.... you snooze you lose!!
Crispian is actually a devout spiritualist. . .Has travelled the world, embracing Indias culture, other religions and beliefs. . .Although he admitted to me that this album was too dark and the public lost interest in his music, then his previous album was too light and again the public lost interest, you need to find balance as this man is a talented musician. . .However still admired in Japan and Asia
Can anybody please tell me if there are or were any INDIAN music bands/persons who have produced similar kinds of rhythm, tunes like the songs by Kula Shaker in their album "K". It doesnt have to be in English
11 or 12 years old. This is "Later... with Jules Holland". Catatonia also played live on this episode. Kula Shaker played "Shower Your Love" and "Great Hosannah". Crispian wears dodgy trousers for the lulz.
Like many, I completely agree that Kula Shaker was/is vastly underrated. I was so glad to see them live at a relatively small club in Boston (ironically enough it was called the Karma Club) after they released P,P &A. They are a very unique band with a vintage sound in a time when most are now just copies of imitations.
i like how you set kula shaker apart from "copies of imitations" while at the same time calling them "vintage". they are an imitation of an era that taste forgot. they are indeed unique, though, in that no other band of their time was painfully shite in quite the same way
i also like the concept of a band being "vastly underrated" yet selling shitloads of records and having several hit singles. there are a million incredible bands from the late nineties who never had any of that
music has no middle class, but I see your point, a very underrated band with a sense of purpose in their music,, this is what todays music lacks, I think..
Brilliant band. Possibly the most under-rated ever although i cant think why. Maybe due to them being middle class? anyway, amazing sound, mills is one of the greatest guitarists.
basically that during the 90s it was all about the working class heroes. I dont think alot of people like crispian. so yeah it does make sense dick head
I love this band. The lyrics of some songs border on mystical and spiritual and I could foresake every other sound for them. How awesome can that be? Love 'em. Love 'em to bits.
I completely agree! They really deserve much more credit than they were/are ever given. Most definitely one of my favourite bands. You gotta love Crispian!
Agreed. I have been saying this for years. Fuck all the tinny modern day "indie" music, this was when they got it right. Kula Shaker would probably be my all time fave band it it were not for Oasis :)
for all the theological pandering that this song may or may not be guilty of, as an atheist i enjoy this song for what it is: a message of hope, a message to cheer us and above all a rather catchy number. cant you guys just enjoy the song?
have to agree sooperkula, we all know that we are going to hell anyway so whats the point of writing pish on youtube about religion.God,Jesus,The son of Christ,Allah etc etc have all been around "supposedly" since time began so i doubt that Kula Shaker can resurrect the great hossanah just by appearing on Jools Holland. mind you saying that... didn't they do that on ghostbusters 2 with that painting?
The New World is comming and we must prepare, we must try to search out God. This a very profetic song. Listen closely. He is a devotee of the Lord and his songs teach us to become devotees too. The new world will go through some changes and the tables will turn. The Lords devotees will inherit the earth for 10,000 years and God Conciousness will be the goal of life. Not a car or a mansion or power, simply God.
Why don't you take your preaching somewhere else, Youtube is becoming a battleground for the God Squad and atheist nutters,
You didn't even bother to mention if you liked the song or not.
Go argue with Pat Condell.
Great song, Great band, very underrated, Crispian Mills is a huge talent. He's a great singer and musician and of course he's the Grandson of the late great British actor Sir John Mills.
i know Crispian Mills, he is a Hare Krishna Devotee like me. Do you see the tulasi beads around his neck? You don't know that the Great Hosannah is God? And all of his songs refer to God? Wow wake up man get connected.
I think the song you're talking about is "Last Farewell" ,it's track 10 on Peasants,Pigs and Astronauts,of which this is track 1, it's also a great song.
Seen them, known them, got the tshirt. . .I played cricket at school with Crispian Mills, didnt know who he was then. . .But been intrigued with their music since they emerged in the mid 90s. . .Recently had VIP at Itunes in London, saw them in Bristol, Cambrige, Camden, but seriously their last album strangefolk is a big let down
i remember watching this years ago, i must've been 14 or 15, crispian did an interview with jools at the piano and looked so stoned he could barely open his eyes!
Saw em live twice. Once in Cambridge in 98 and then at V99 (Chelmsford). In fact think it was the first band i saw live. Love getting out K and peasants for a listen every now and then not overly keen on newer stuff though :)
Check out their new album folks - these guys are back and are bolder than before, saw them in Shepherds bush in Feb - this band truly gives you something to think about - could be just me but listenin to them makes me feel like a better human being somehow
this is one of the best songs of the 90's. As good as pearl jam or radiohead or red hot chili peppers. Great, Great music!
New record was out a couple of weeks ago. not as good but some solids rock songs. Produce by tchad blak i think, who did some grunge stuff in the past.
Astronaughts, Pesants & Pigs was a fantastic album! I'm really diggin' there sound! Not like the crap and spooge we have to suffer through here in the US! Guess I'm a bit biased too.....
Right, sorry about that! Great album. I unforntately got rid of a lot of really great music during my bout with conservatisim and did a huge purge of anything that I thought was not "proper conservative" material. What a foolish thing to do, all my Kula Shaker CD were gotten rid of, fearing I was listening to "terrorist music"! That's what I get for listening to and buying into the crap those damned neocon Republican mouth pieces spew! Kula Shaker is impossible to get here in the US now!
huh i don't understand. You got rid of music because of the government wtf??! What's 'proper conservative' material anyway, any examples to give me an idea? Thx.
they wouldn't like "great dictator of the free world" then. class song written from the viewpoint of the "great dictator of the free world"'s, george W' himself, point of view.
I may be abit biased but this is the greatest band ever. And this is their best song. Its nice that the comments are becoming abit more frequent...By the rate of things Kula Shaker is defenitely on the rise!
I bought their album K when it came out. Then didn't hear anything about them here in the US after that. But then in 96 i believe, I took a trip to CA, and saw that they released The album that this song is from. I love music with a middle eastern tinge to it. The Tea Party (their first albums) has this as well.
Vastly underrated this band, Love it, Shit hot Vocals and Instrumentals, 2 words, The Bollocks. Hard to believe Crispian is the grandson of the late great English actor Sir John Mills.
You just know that when an uploaders comments say " from a UK Tellyvision show" ... that the uploader is American and probably knows nothing about music .....

I like so much the music they made. It's too much different to anything I heard before. And Crispian is a great singer!

they didn't even try to make it big, if they had they would surely be the biggest rock band on the planet now.
no doubt. they have the music.

I have always loved Kula Shaker.
