RMS QM2 is still longer taller, even the original RMS Queen Elizabeth 1940's ship (is taller than freedom of the seas), anyway freedom was only considered larger because of it's gross tonnage, but even the old Queen at 71 meters was taller than freedom at 63.3 meters.

@DRinWBC, perhaps the port security in the US is better, but for example around here it's far from that of the airports. Keep in mind that the terrorists don't have to strike in the US ports as long as it's an American ship full of American tourists.

Boarding a ship like that while it's underway is not that hard. Pirates do that all the time in the Somalian coast.

The QM2 must look fantastic through the periscope of a submarine.

I think it would take at least 4 WW2 torpedoes to break its hull into two sections and sink like the Titanic. It might take 2 modern torpedoes.

I wonder if they can safely launch all life boats and abandon the ship with all hands if there was serious damage to the hull and the ship was flooding.

I wonder why Al Qaeda haven't taken one of these massive cruise liners hostage or something,, they seem to be pretty easy targets!

The Freedom of the Seas is a great ship (was on it 2 years ago). Its a variation of another RCCL (Royal Carribean Cruise Line) ship class called the Voyager Class (5 ships in this class, I have been on 3). RCCL Oasis is absolutely awsome!! Its the next evolution of the Freedom Class Ship combined with the new concept of lots of open air venues.

RCCL has built lots of great ships from the 1990 Soverign Class to todays Oasis Class, they blow away the competition. This is but another example

Yeah, but then again QM2 is designed for trans-Atlantic trips while this ship is a cruise ship meant for the Caribbean. It doesn't need that much freeboard as the seas are calmer there.

The top 2/3 of the decks are constructed mostly of aluminum. Also the mulitple swimming pools on the top have safety systems that can completely drain them in a matter of minutes (water weighs a lot)

and also what you don't realize is what is under the water that you don't see its not like where the water is teh boat stops... plus there are ballast tanks at the bottom to help keep the boat stabilized in the water.

We went around hamburg, oslo, hamburg, southampton and around the yersey island and I made good bit of money When I finally was thrown out of the ship in Southampton.
