I like the blank faces. I've a musical theatre background, and normally empty faces annoys me, but to me this is a song that's about confusion and not knowing what emotion is appropriate. It's a song about meeting someone and being full of feelings but keeping a straight face, and they capture the emotion through their movements, like dancers should. I think it works. And they move together astoundingly well.
I completley understand the merits to the lack of facial emotion and why it works well with the dance, but no matter how emotional the movements, I connect better with emotionally engaged faces. Of course, I am extremely biased having done a great deal of musical theater dancing, where facial expressions are essential. So, really, it's a personal preference.
can anyone tell me what kind of dance this would be called (in terms of being a dance with two people)? Im interested in learning how to dance with a partner but i dont think my studio offers classes in this and all google comes up with when i do a search for my area is salsa :(

@sillyribbons It's probably pretty specific to your studio, but I'd assume they're learning the choreography rather than taking an actual pas de deux class like you'd take for ballet. If you know a male dancer who you'd like to work with, you could talk to your studio about taking private lessons to develop skills. However, modern duets are more specialized than ballet pas de deux, so you have to find a choreographer who really likes choreographing duets.
Even if their faces are completely emotionless (which I agree, adds to the dance), their movements are filled with so much emotion. I think that contrast makes this dance so wonderful. I adore it, and I'm glad I found this song through it ^^

I just wish our main man here was in maybe a little more fitting outfit. Like his shirt at least be a little less baggy. It looks great, but shes so obvious in her moves, his clothes kinda hide his body lines. His clothes look like a cover-up for smudged lines when I know they're no't, but it kinda distracts me.
I'm gonna have to disagree about their faces having no emotion. I mean, what are they supposed to do? Smile? That wouldn't fit. Frown? That's cheesy, isn't it? Their faces are serious and their eyes show caring and depth- to say the least, it's a neutral modern dance face.
@funacting1 I think that's one of the best qualities of the dancers. Even though they have no expression on their face, you can see it through their movements. It shows that they are very talented dancers.
1st off i have to say that guy is HOT! but that's not the point anyways i loved every second of it really. i wish i could learn that dance its so amazing and i love the song :)

When you meet an ex, you sort of hide your real emotion don't you? you don't act all emotional. and it's extremely unlikely that you would want to convey awkwardness in a contemporary dance like this. maybe it's suppose to be like they don't want to show their cards. Katie is smart and professional, if she wanted expression on their faces, they would.

I love Katie's work but the song is talking about a range of emotions not just the awkard meeting at the beginning. You usually don't just meet the whole time you talk and begin to feel feelings and I just saw ghost the whole time. I'm not arguing about it I'm just as professional and this just isn't one of my favs from her. I'm done.

I see a top comment basically says the exact same thing I was thinking, I just think their blank facial expressions wouldn't be accidental or a fault of the dancers or Katie, but a part of the dance/interpretation. :)
