@greengrendel trying to control a gene pool ussually results in more mutations. think dog breeding. genetic mods would be good except for ethical dilemmas and that they can create unintended mutations. i think the best argument for natural selection is our history. we're doing well considering all that can go wrong. and mutations give us important insight into how the body works but i agree with you.. it's so sad that people have to bear that burden.

There's no good or bad, there's just favourable and unfavourable and it depends only on the circumstances. Say you're born with hair all over your body. You'll find it hard to find a mate in a city, but say your plane crashes in the arctic, it might turn out a favorable in that situation. evolution is just selection of the favorable mutations in those conditions, like thick fur in an arctic climate((of course that's not favorable if say, you have to swim, so a thick layer of fat can keep warm)).
