I like how they failed to address the reason for the debt, Unfunded tax cuts, 2 unfunded wars, the unfunded medicare part d and a horrible economy. All of thoese policies are still in play the debt will increase. Social Security is not the reason for the debt.
No one said democrats caused the problem. Right now, however, Democrats think spending will lower the deficit in 10 or 20 years. When normal people have no money, they spend less, because they have to. Right now, dems want to raise the debt limit without cutting much spending. Republicans are saying ok, we'll raise it if we cut a lot of spending. So, no, democrats didn't cause the problem, but right now, Republicans are the ones trying to fix it, while dems aren't.
Since people have no money because they just came out of a recession, they need to be helped by the governement. They need access to healthcare. They need to regain confidence. Paying back the debt must be a long term project. Look into the debt history of contries similar to USA and I'm guessing you'll see that most of them are also raising their depts.
I agree about the humans vs monkeys thing. But in all honesty, churches do a better job of helping the poor than the government does. People should try to help other people. But there's a difference between doing that willingly and the government forcing it. And that money doesn't necessarily go to help the poor. During Katrina, church groups were helping victims before the Red Cross even showed up (days later). The govt. hands out welfare checks.
(adding to my response...) People on welfare aren't given the tools to get a job. If the government wants to help anyone, they should lead by example and pay off their debt by cutting their spending. Handing out welfare checks does not help the problem. More and more people are becoming unemployed, Americans are getting lazier, China is moving ahead, our poverty level has increased under Obama, etc. People won't sit if they don't have a check. They'll do what it takes (work).
lastly : When you say a person needs chance, intelligence, etc, you're forgetting something. Look up the story of Milton Hershey. He failed 7 times before finally making Hershey's chocolate. Someone can study for 30 minutes or not at all and ace a test. Someone with a bad memory can't, but if they study for 10 hours, they can. In the end, it all comes down to effort. If you're determined, you can do anything. People without arms learn to play piano with their feet.
@MomentsAfter You can't afford healthcare to your family by mowing law
Here in Canada the rich are taxed about 3 times more than in USA : There are less very rich people who don't know what to do with their money and less poverty. There are people who don't bring much to society but they are mostly sad people with a very sad life. It's a big problem almost impossible to fix but I feel letting them on their own would only aggravate the problem (more people on the streets and orphans)
@MomentsAfter I agree that people on welfare should be given the tools to get a job. But don't you agree that one of those tools would be money and health? Seems to me that, in USA, it's easy to get richer when your already rich. But do you know a lot of people who got richer starting with no money? That Hershey guy was exceptional, a great man. But there is always luck in exceptional stories. Effort does not do it all and money does most of the work for you. Especially in USA.
People don't need to be helped by the government. The government can't even help itself. Look at the debt the country is in. Neighbors need to help neighbors. People need to learn how to get back on their feet. Go to yard sales, and buy and sell stuff. There are tons of ways to make money. Go door to door and ask to mow lawns. Deliver newspapers. Do what it takes. If you have a family, you do what it takes to provide. You don't sit and say "there's no jobs. hand me a check"
I love how you're too ignorant to realize the rich worked their way to get money. They're the ones who hire you. If you make money, and get rich, you should be rewarded, not penalized. The rich are already paying almost all of the taxes in our country. Learn the facts. And just so you know, i have less than $2,000 to my name. So I'm not defending myself. I'm just using my brain, unlike you. If you're rich, and want to give to charity or something, go ahead. Don't penalize.
When you say " If you make money, and get rich, you should be rewarded, not penalized", you must understand that not everybody feels that way. Personnally, I think rich people are rewarded for their hard work by earning a lot of money. But hard work is not always enough to become rich, you need intelligence, charisma, chance, etc. Than, it is only the moral thing to do to help those less fortunate afterwards. This is what differantiates humans from monkeys.
@MomentsAfter If you're talking about Canada when you say that the rich pay almost all the taxes, then that could be a different story, but it's certainly not like that here in the states. That's where all this is actually happening, not Canada. The rich doesn't pay shit for taxes and the government and middle class pretty much just dump money on them based on the flimsy premise that someday we might be rich too.
