  • Hey, I heard about this product called Sari Saheli pleatmaker which is a tool to tie your pleats and palla. So, if you are a amateur like me and dont know how to wear a saree, just order this Pleatmaker machine from sarisaheli website and draping a saree becomes so much easier. The also have magnetic clips to hold the saree on their website which completely replace those safety pins which poke our hands and sarees. I really works, try it !!!!!

  • lets start from the scratch instead...

  • i like d way shes tried to wear d sari...good effort...

  • by the way some women take the loose end and pull it over the head for a nice look others wrap i taround the shoulders for a layered effect others pin it with a few pleats at the shoulder so it drapes others just pin the shoulder area for a nice looking drape its soo versitile!!

  • A lot of evil posts by Indians. Most of u still feel inferior in front of white people.U can't forgive colonialism, u hate us, but u try to copy us. How many western things have u appropriated? The list is too long, so ur posts are ridiculous. The West has given birth to many beautiful women looking good even in sarees. Because of our great white skin and grey eyes we are often invited to advertise ur clothes. Our faces smile from most magazines and banners. So ur words come from powerless anger.

  • @voxlibertatis i have been told im beautiful in anything because of my blue eyes and fare skin!! i hate it when people do this because i find all women beautiful in their own way and skin tone should not dictate beauty! even in marrieges women in india look for light skinned men and visa versa! its not the skin that matters its how you carry yourself in your daily life!

  • thats old womens way of saari... :P

  • ur wearing the saree from the wrong side...ur suppose to wear it from left to right, the end of the saree comes over ur left shoulder, not right. All (well most) sarees are made to wear it from left to right otherwise the print of the saree wont 'fit' to style.

  • Jo this video is great, though I didn't get much of what I wanted but atleast you attempted to teach, and I loved the fact of how much you like wearing a sari. I love everone who love India. To all the criticisers, and rustic insane mentality ppl's comments, try uploading your amma or sister wearing a sari could be your wife too why not yourself in sari and some bangles.I bet your video would not be even close to this one.!!

  • Perhaps this should be titled, How to put on weight.

  • Thanks for this! :-)

It is interesting reading in the comments that there are different styles for different regions. Neat!

  • Its nice video, how to wear , I came across another video in which they have showed how to wear sari within 5 mints, which I like the most here you can watch it " sarisaheli - dot - com"

    Thanks :)

  • I think its Gujarati sari there are lots of ways to put on sari ! Use any method woman look great in sari !

  • Now there is a great new tool called Perfect Pleats that makes wearing a sari quick and easy! Check out their website perfect-pleats com for some really nice videos!

  • Though You are not indian montyollie it doesn't mean you can't teach people how to wear a saree. You have done good work. There are some women who don't know how to wear a saree though they want to wear. Thanks for your try. I am also an Indian.

  • only Indian women can wear saree nicely .

  • @jaikhan1 Absolutely true. Wearing sarees distinguishes Indian women who from the ones I have met are capable, beautiful and forthright and opinionated while still being respectful and courteous from Western women who from my experience are loud, demanding, lack humility and are selfish.

  • @Mayortwilleger You don't know that many western women then. We are not all as you describe and i do find that quite insulting.

  • @Mayortwilleger You don't know that many western women then. We are not all as you describe and i do find that quite insulting.

  • @jaikhan1 that is so not true.

  • Hello friends,

A super easy way to wear Sari. Now there is a new gadget in the market. Sari Saheli - it is a pleat maker. Makes neat and even pleats so easy. Check it out at sarisaheli website

  • Wow....you look great in that. Maybe you should start wearing them for special occasions. You might also be interested in how to wear a half sari. Check them out from my channel. Happy Sari'ng.

  • you are so adorable & cute!!!! i appreciate that you tried really well.

  • this isn`t the right way to wear a saree....

  • @Marya1997 actually it is one of the correct ways to wear one there are all types o fstyles from all over the world!! its a piece of cloth that you wrap which makes it versitile!!

  • i dont think this is a right way to wear a sari. i am a girl. i know how to wear a sari.

  • no you can wear it in this way too

  • thanks for replying me. i have just join to youtube. so i have no freinds. so please stay in contact.

  • hi!!!!im from Egypt and i was with my husband in india......so i have 4 new sari but i dont know haw to wear it :DD.........so girl thenk u very much for this videoooooooooooooooo..... :)

    bye

  • At Least you tried to teach ppl how to wear a sari-those ppl who are 'experts' at doing this on daily basis may have found your method , shall we say, a little "different".

All in all, a good effort!

  • people! this is the wrong way to wear a sari!!

what happened to the pleats? and the petticoat is showing at the bottom.. in addition to 1000x things that are wrong. sorry, but that's not how you wear a sari!

  • THANKS ALOT!

    U SAVED MY DAY!

  • it seems like the petticoat is always wrinkled... nitpicking sry

  • Comment removed

  • hold this up to the mirror to make her dress to the left ... and then she'll be right...

  • Thank you! Jo, you did a awesome job.

  • you're so sweet!!

  • i find the tucking very hard to do >.>

  • lol leave it to ppl who actually know properly.

  • Wrong way, but good attempt.

  • good try but if you wear it the right way, you will look awesome

  • good try very good!!!

  • Nice work. By the way if I may suggest, the saree is tucked at least an inch under the navel (depends on your height also) - looks more beautiful. There are several ways to wear a saree in India. I enjoyed teaching my wife how to wear one. And honestly speaking it is not a single person's job. Traditionally someone assists the woman.

  • it ok but how to open the sari.

  • you r wearing sari the other way....heheheh...

  • Hey Jo,love your videos! Rodney of the Jesters

  • nice attempt but next time try tucking the saree at the beginning on the rightside with the colourful end thrown over your left shoulder in the end, that is probably the style that you're trying to do which is also the most popular.

  • hey, that was cool, thank you for posting!

  • hey!

don't feel bad at all..u did it right..the gujarati style of wearing a sari is the right shoulder..i think tamil people wear it on the left...good job!

  • @gujugirl1085 yes some people also forget in some cultures the righ tshoulder means single the left means married and in others right is best because of stigmas with the left and left because o fstigmas with the right!! some people wrap with no shoulder others both so long as you wrap it the way you want to wrap it its fine its a versitile wrap for good reason!!

  • Hats off to you for your effort and enthusiasm. There may be mistakes but who cares, it's about being open in mind. - from an indian

  • The Gurjrhati style goes over the right shoulder, (i know I spelt it wrong) I think it looks pretty at any rate!!

Btw hun the pretty part is called the pallu

  • haha..u are funny.and u look beautiful in that saree. I had a teacher whom i loved a lot when i was a kid.Her name was nirmala.U look like her twin.

  • NICE YOUNG LADY

  • THAT"S RUDE!!....she is just teaching us....in the end she said she did it wrong....can't u read....if ur small sis thats 2 years old can teach us how to wear a sari...make a vid of her and show us....@!

  • reply to Raidah23

  • this is wrong way to weare a saree!

And it's the left shoulder not right. LOL!

  • not over the right shoulder..!! u did it the wrong way.. its the left shoulder..!!

  • I love that you are interested in our culture! I love the way that you wore that sari,it was very simple and elegant. I was taught a much more complicated way to wear a sari though....but good job!

  • well.. if an indian wears a western outfit non of the white ppl say a word.. and when this respectful lady shows intrest in a sari (which most of the indian teenagers almost donno how to drape) the work less ppl are here to give a bad comments and try to discourage her... hats off to all u ppl who made a neg comment here...

and mam.. u r so cute .. keep rocking ..

  • thankyou for this video.. helped me remember how to put mine on!

And whoever the hell made the comment about a white person doing the instructions is pathetic. There are plenty of white people who have adopted that way of life and dress like that, follow the religion etc. I'm extremely insulted by your ignorance.

Thankyou again for the video :)

  • Wow!! I'm quite embarrassed about the comments below! If you didnt want to watch it, you didnt have to. No-one forced you to!! Plus, I thought she gave really good instructions and she did say where she made a mistake!! Some people can be so rude!!! :S

  • Thanks for the support! I made this video last year for my friend Hilary, never expected it to get 100,000 page views. Never mind the rude comments. Just goes to show the digital age we live in... I guess I figure if I helped even a few people get the hang of it, then the haters can say what they need to say to feel good about themselves. HAHA!

  • Dont mention it hun. Thought you wore it well. Saris take forever to figure out!! =)

  • u r sooo sweet and so adorable ;)

  • @montyollie good effort..

  • last time, i saw an indonesian gal made a tutorial bout how to wear saree.. now, this lady did the same. geez..

  • ur a fckin racist

  • wow...its pathetic that yr actually insulting people on this

  • I agree, just because she is white and not Indian attempting to put on a sari and TEACH people how to do it, is not a reason to insult them...how ethnocentric

  • how about the head part...?

  • Hmm.. I have a feeling you missed something out... near the end... but I am not sure..

  • I think I did not pull it tight enough. It's draped too loosely. Again, I only learned how to do it from the lady at the store and this video was supposed to show my friend in New Jersey how to wrap it. I never thought 84000 people would watch it! HA

  • Hmm.. wrote you a reply but I cannot find it here for some reason.. will come back later..

  • Hehe..Youtube is known for BIG amount of people hanging over here !!

Did you buy sari in USA ?? Woow.. Must have been very very costly !! I don't even know if we have them over here (Finalnd). if we do, I'm guessing it would cost 50 euros!!

  • I bought them in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It's a very multicultural city, and there is a whole section of town called "Little India" that sells Indian food and clothing. The saris were so inexpensive, I couldn't believe it. 5 or 6 meters of fabric for $15-$20 Canadian dollars (similar to the US dollar). Some were more expensive, yes, but those were the cheapest ones I could find. The one in the video was $20. The sari blouse and petticoat were about $10 each, so altogether about $40.

  • Haha... I went to check sari's here. And was amazed by what I saw. There weren't many of them and those that were there (a bit over 5 meters) cost 100 Canadian Dollars..!! Only the sari fabric. :(

  • Damn.. Again it refused to post another comment of mine.. Never mind..

I probably shouldn't comment cause I've never worn a sari nor been to India, but only watched a tutorial by natives, who made it a little more complicated near the end.

  • it doesn't allow me to insert a link of youtube here.. so you know what it says. search with that and choose the second one.

SARI [How to wear a SARI] #1

the woman says 'there are many ways to wear a sari'. so therefore.. you have your own way..!! There are no right ways to me it seems...

  • this is so cute :)

  • Absolutely beatiful! I have always wondered how to do it. I have never gotten up the nerve to wear one being that I'm not indian. But who says you have to be? love saris, it looks so elegant.

  • Thanks Jo, good job, off to tie myself in a knot now!!!

  • Although you failed on some rules of wearing sari, you still did a damn good job. As an Indian women, I feel honored that you learned how to do that and are teaching others. you are cool in my chicki!

  • meant to say "you are cool in my book"

  • Thank you so much for your words of encouragement!!!

  • si ang moh idoit

  • you have to bring the underskirt more down.....it shouldnt be as high as it was.....but you did good

  • thanks for help looks easier now:D

  • it should be the left sholder not the right

  • wow you explained better than the indian lady you was quick too..thank you

  • Thanks for posting this video! It´s awesome. Very funny! Great!!!

  • you did a great job even though you may have gotten it done in reverse

  • great job, but i think you're wearing it over the wrong shoulder.. looks like a mirror image... OH hahha yea i saw the caption at the end now :P and i think the pleats should be reversed, but great mirror image job :D

  • in da biggest bollywoodshop in germany(berlin)(moti mahal)they have a sari wich costs 2000€ with gold and everything...gaaaawjus, but i havent got da money=)

  • Hey there lady! (waving)

Love the Sari video.....now I want to go out and

buy one, always liked em but never thought

I could figure how to wrap one.

  • why does everybody have to pick a fight? FUCK OFF! GO BUY A SARI, WEAR IT AND LOOK NICE!

  • hey jo! thanks for an instructive video! loved it, especially the "left boob" part (lol you sounded so funny saying it!). now i can wrap my saris right!

    thanks again :)

  • Hi Jo...thanks a lot for your nice and easy guide. You helped me a lot! Have fun "sari-ing" :-), too!!!

  • YESSSS THANK U i bought a sari today and i was so confused on how to put it on =-=

  • lost wieght..then put a sorry..LOL

  • Is it not the time to move forward with inventions? I think Sari and Dhoti were invented when mankind did not know how to stitch cloth. These are not user friendly as far as Fire Life Safety issues are concerned. Now that Levis jeans is taking over, not in my lifetime, but down the road in next 500 years, I really want both Sari and Dhoti disappear from this planet.

  • Sari is not just a cloth it is our identity and pride. Indian women take great pride in wearing it. Yes we are going ahead in technology and modernization is needed but we must not forget our culture. That is who we r. Technology and culture should go hand in hand i would never wan to see the sari dissapear.

  • send over your wife with levi jeans, ill give her a hard fuck.

  • ya and i want u to disappear from this planet, scum like you are the reason why Bharat was under slavery for so long, if u like levis jeans so much then wear it, hehehe but u knw cool yaar scum like u in bharat will never be equal to goras in their eyes however hard u try to ape them.

now STFU before i shove a broom stick up ur ass.

  • It is neither a campaign for Jeans nor a campaign against SARI. You have to read between the lines, and get out of the box. The Fire & Life Safety issues. If you have to run in emergency with a sari on you, probably you would not run as fast as someone with a Jeans on. The message is to wear something that is innocuous and user friendly in all occasions, not just one or two. Even a Punjabi dress is OK.

  • Bhambhambhole, u say ur not campaigning against Sari, yet in ur earlier post u wrtoe: "...Now that Levis jeans is taking over, not in my lifetime, but down the road in next 500 years, I really want both Sari and Dhoti disappear from this planet."

Never mind jeans taking over or going against Sarees, first of all, stop contradicting urself! :P

  • dont be a fucking retard you dumb colonial minded slave bitch. millions of hindu women wear saris everyday, work in it, cook in it, and have done so for THOUSANDS of years without being in flames. i think you need to choke yourself to death and stop coming up with retarded bullshit.

  • firedup643 exposed you pretty well so i have nothing left to do.

behanchod even under so much foreign rule both dhoti and sari survived, you think a few idiots like you and ur gora masters can kill it.

i think u r som hijra type who puts on the "shalwar kameez" like a lady and dances at weddings, if i ever come across scum like u in real life u would wish u were never born in the 1st place.

  • It looks cute! too bad I cant wear those cuz Im a guy lol

  • awesome

  • actually, in south india, depending on what caste you are, some ppl wear it on their right shoulder... but usually it is on the left...

  • hi yeah laxmi is right, the shoulder is wrong besides the sari always worn below the navel. when its above the navel....something looks amiss, becoz that not how it should be worn.

  • lol nice 1

  • Ok, pretty good, but as well as it being over the wrong shoulder and the white slip showing through, it should be tighter across the back, meaning you need a few more pleats. This shows how quick and easy it can be though. Nice.

  • Thanks so much for the feedback! As you can see, I'm a white Canadian chick who learned how to do this from the shopkeeper in Little India in Toronto. I do not claim to know what I'm doing!! LOL The video was made for a friend of mine in New Jersey, because I mailed her one as a gift and she had no clue. I can't believe this video has over 1300 hits. It's freaking me out.

  • Montyollie, I think you did a great job. Well done.!
