@BigCheeseMC26280 Way to go ya fudd..... now you've mentioned him they will come! lol
I hate seeing all this talk about him on all the drumming videos, he's not even all that good amongst his contemporaries let alone anywhere near the caliber of Rich's style....
This short clip is the most impressive display of "new" Buddy footage I've seen thus far. His grip is so miraculously loose... I'm always inspired to learn from his technical marvel at every oportunity... I'd LOVE to see the first two clips in their entire form (and with better quality, if possible!). The key is to interpret Buddy's emotion towards his playing and understand how that translates into such smooth, effortless, dynamical and loose technique. Everyday I get a little closer to him...
@cadaverr The first clip is amazing on several levels. First, note the distance between the 2 toms. It means nothing to B. Next, when B starts to move around the set he is not buzzing or playing doubles - he's playing his astonishing single strokes, and he never misses a stroke, and makes it look as if he is just floating. The Supreme Master.
The second clip is from the Wolf Trap concert, and the solo here was a very fresh and somewhat different approach by B. Once again, absolutely astounding
@MarkR1957 "The first clip is amazing on several levels" - without a doubt. The thing that impresses me the most is how effortless the whole process is. Somehow, B. was able to make his sticks move by combining the strength/rebound of his first strokes + gravity mastery (the inclination of his hands + the inclination of his snare) to keep his strokes' momentum and little wrist movements. Its amazing.
@MarkR1957 You can actually play a mix of diddles, flams and doubles at blazing speed with no apparent had movement. You can actually play very fast, clean and strong 5 stroke rolls just by keeping the natural rebounce of your first strokes by using very little wrist effort of a relaxed wrist, just enough to keep it going. Its a natural approach, a way of making use of the laws of physics, I guess (something Jojo Mayer has been doing for sometime).
@MarkR1957 I'm starting to benefit from his unique approach (I guess) - the biggest problem is not even his marvellous technique per se, but what he does with it! His applications.... Years of trial and error are actually paying off. I'd die for these clips in their entirety. What really pisses me is that just when he starts going full force, the clip gets cut!!!
@MarkR1957 Do you know how one can get a hold of better versions of such videoclips? I can't get over the fact that they're not available on youtube for us to see...
@realdrummer,The master of all masters.Everytime I watch Buddy I think to myself that no matter who else I watch,EVERYONE comes in a distant second. And I agree with you,he is the best of any instrument, It will only take FOREVER to get another master on this level. BUDDY I MISS YA!!!!
WTF. I have been watching buddy for forty some years. I am always astounded still.Unfuckingbelievable..He is not only the most adept technical master of drums ever but he is IMO the most accomplished MASTER of any instrument..
Buddyrichforever!: GREAT CLIPS!!! Really neat was the 1st one with BR playing a Rogers set that was in one of their Strata finishes and not his customary WMP... course we know that the set was supplied for the "clinic". And what a clown to boot! I miss ya Buddy!!
