Kid was good then, blazing now -- but look at who he learned from--Gregg, Dickie, Warren, other ABB members, AND whoever they hang out with over the years!!. Talent plus what a musical education! Watch ALL the stuff he's done--he is better than Duane was when he died--can you imagine Uncle Duane and Derek??? Look at the video of Derek and Susan doing ANYDAY--there's a quick shot of Clapton singing along--wow

It's not Duane v. Derek. Derek is a reincarnation of, if not Duane himself, than the passion and spirit he brought to music. If not for Duane, there'd be no Derek. But there's no question the young man brings a technical brilliance to the party.

In your opinion........and everybody has one so heres mine.........NOONE could play a guitar like Howard Duane Allman!!!!!!!! No offense to Derek cause he is great just no SKYDOG!!!!!!!

opinion is fine, but the fact of the matter is, Derek is light years beyond where Duane was. That's not to say Duane would not have been lightyears beyond Derek, that we'll never know sadly. Derek's been at it a lot longer, You have to remember Duane was only playing slide about FOUR YEARS when he died. That's pretty amazing in itself.

@sccouple2427 dont you see Derek is Duane Back when Clapton was talking to the Devil more often and Skydog was playin slide on Slowhand's albums he was told to tell Jimi and Duane they had to die but Derek and the Dominoes would later be manifested in Derek Trucks playing in the Allman Brothers Band. Clapton would then host the Crossroads festivals for Trucks to play and complete the cosmic jamocity. Jimi was an Astroman Ambassador and he's playin for other galaxies to carry on the tradition!

@sccouple2427 i will agree with this due to the fact that derek has been playing slide for what 20 years or more, allman didnt start playing slide till he had dropped out of highschool, and died at 24 thats not that long and no one is that good still

I couldn't beleive it when I saw that Derek Trucks was playing with the ABB? I just saw him and his band at the Ecel Center in St.Paul,Mn. a couple of weeks ago when he opened for Santana. I must have been hiding under a rock or something because I had never heard of D. Truck before this last concert? I thought that maybe he was an up and comer, but this video proves I don't know shi*? He put on a great show and at times I thought he was better than Carlos at times?
