@Rebiin Warsow is VERY different than Quake Live. it's CLOSER to Quake III Arena with the CPMA mod on it, but even than, Warsow is still different. especially the movement. But the skills from Quake are easily transferable to Warsow at the same time. It's interesting how these guys gain speed. I spent a few hours learning from a friendly warsow vet :), it's so fun just to run around the maps after you know what you are doing.

It's also a stand-alone free to download game and not even slightly a mod.

@XwalenX Not even CLOSE, the game moves so great, KIND OF like Quake, but in it's own way. Jumping off of walls, using curved walls/objects for a boost, instant turn around w/out losing speed. I thought the same way, until someone showed me HOW to move proper. if you play this game like Quake, you'd probably be teh slowest player, no kidding haha.

Contrary to the misinformed statement that was voted up, this game started out with with Quake 2 engine, not the Quake 3 engine. It has since been heavily modified, and this has become one of the best games I've ever played.

If you're coming from other Quake based games, you need to know 2 things,

first: cg_oldmovement 1, this will make the movement feel much more like the other games.

second: dashes and wall jumps, this is how you move faster and smoother than any other Quake based game.

This version is terrible. A hacked up netcode and butchered lag compensation that only includes half of the weapons. The game weapons are laggy, random and unresponsive at best. The gibs look like tetris blocks and the featured player model is a pig in a diaper.

@DoomTra1n Im not at all talking about ping. Doesn't matter, half the weapons are NOT included in the lag compensation so they are lagy and unresponsive from the source. So in one aspect your right, you can have the most pwerful PC in the world, and Warsow will still be shit, but not because of internet connection, because its a butchered hacked up mess for netcode and lag compensation.

@DoomTra1n I recommend you read the Warsow source code, even in the source it says, and I quote "hack for plasma" and "hack for rockets" also in those lines they are removed from the lag compensation, wich is why they are so shitty. Alo why you see the "projectile" spawn 10 feet away from you in game.

But for training purpose or a little offline match etc. you can start a server and play against bots, which are very well coded in my opinion... with movement and everything

yeah, it has bots too for sure, you can choose how many when you start a new server or you write g_numbots 'number of bots eg. 6' into the console when you loaded the map. They are pretty good, you can have some fun with them, but you warsow is an online-shooter so online you'll get more competition ;)

I couldnt talk to anyone online! there are a mass of servers, enough for many people, but there are only 2 or 3 servers with people on it!

so 1st: I suggest commiunity is pretty small...

2nd: chatting with team mates or the enemy? a no go!

its a pretty fun game, makes more fun than Quake Live ( whch is actually a nice game to, but I just say two words: Punk and buster... know what I mean?...)

and for the tetris stone, write "cg_gibs X" in the console with any number higher than 1 for X, so you'll get the old, bloody gibs (I'm no fan of those tetris gibs either)

Yes, you definitely should be able to play.

That's one of the great things about Warsow.

It has in my opinion a perfect graphic for its genre (does not even try to look realistic with very poor results, like in a lot of other free fps-games) but works on nearly every pc (that I know^^), because there are so many seetings you can use.

Some people dont like the style, I really think, as frother do, that Warsow is the best-looking free to play shooter at the moment. ;)
