  • my favorite show after dragon ball hehe!!! love it!

  • 1:03 - I always love that 90 degree turn every single time I see it.

  • Love love love it they were the best!

  • Love this cartoon soo much...... wanna have a car like 5

  • Remember that movie? The one with Uma Thurman and John Travolta,

and Samuel L. Jackson, and that guy? He played the drug dealer.

He wore a t-shirt that had 'Speed Racer' on it. Oh yeah, Eric Stoltz

was his name - everybody says his wife is Bridget Fonda, even though

they technically never walked down the aisle.

  • Music theory. Some girl once told me, or rather her boyfriend told me

her theory about music - It's like sex. Slow, and then reaches a

crescendo... You really only want to listen to female singers. That

said, I like that allusion - the speed demon... Decades later, I would

realize that there was another possibility : the speed reader.

  • 0:42

Cool guys don't stop singing to look at explosions

  • Speed Racer kills without remorse. Deathrace 2000 style.

  • Okay, am I the only one who's put off by the fact that Speed freakin' KILLED a guy?!

  • With Tshiko Fukiyomo as "Speed."

  • One of my childhood FAVS

  • So Speed Racer/Mach Go Go invented the Matrix camera pan in the 60's?

  • I used to watch this on cartoon network alot i really miss the old cartoon network.

  • @MrParkFan I'm with you. Cartoon Network stinks nowadays. The only exception I can think of is Ben 10 Alien Force; that show is really good. But that's only one good show compared to the whole bunch they had farther back.

  • ahhhh good memories!!! thrumbs up if you´re watchin´ this on 2011

  • 1:04 Now we know where the "Matrix Effect" comes from

  • @Gugarosp good one ^^

  • Awesome to see the old Trans Lux logo & Speed Racer logo as well!Hate the remastered look...

  • Didn't Peter Fernandez sing the theme song too? Sounds like it.

  • One question to people who watched this cartoon, was Tatsunoko envolved in the development of this series?! I've never watched the entire thing since I was still a kid.

  • @e104epsilonMK2 Yes, if I recall correctly, it was Tatsunoko's second show. Great start to a great company!

  • @TreadwellJay Now that I know, Can anyone explain why the fuck he was cut from Tatsunoko vs Capcom?! Speed would've been like the "Captian Falcon" of the game, and I would've loved to see him fight Jin Saotome from Capcom's Cyberbots... All I got to say is, that game better have a sequel!

  • @TreadwellJay , additionally there are hidden visual clues relating to the tatsunoko brothers

  • Loved this show !!

  • Speed will do what it takes to win, just ask that guy he rams at :39

  • Aww, this is so great. I have all the episodes on DVD, but it has been so long since I saw the original opening/closing that I had forgotten what they looked like. So glad to see them again!

  • It may just be a cheesy 1960's cartoon opening, but the guy on bass is really good.

  • i remember sittin and watching the remastered version of this on saturday mornings with my dad. i blame him for turning me into an Otaku :P

  • Loved this show since i saw reruns of it as a kid in the 80s

  • is there difference between the voices in the remastering or the dvd version? do they talk like they did in the cartoo with the fast talking awkward dialogue

  • I used to love Speed racer as a kid. Does anyone know if the characters are supposed to be american or did the japanese think of speed racer as Japanese? I ask because Pops looks very american to me and would be hard to imagine as passing for a japanese character.

  • @coolgreyoneabby

Wikipedia's listing for Speed Racer (quite long) notes: "Speed Racer is an English adaptation name of the Japanese manga and anime, Mach Go Go Go".

  • @bewarethedecks @bewarethedecks Yes and like many Japanese to American anime translations, the show in Japan was more about the machine than the human characters in the USA. So their show is about the Mach 5 (Go is 5 in Japanese). Similar to the Anime scifi epic, "Space Battleship Yamato". The Japanese lauded the machine whereas in the US, we renamed it and dubbed the song "Star Blazers" (the crew of the ship). It is a cultural thing. I dated a Japanese girl once and she had explained it to me.

  • 00:26 Man or Woman?

  • @Nicolas7899 bishounen

  • Speed Racer is japanese anime in 1960's, but orirginally is named "Mach Go Go Go"

and original of character name in japanese is

    Speed Racer = Go Mifune

    Spritle = Kurio Mifune

    Chim-Chim = Sanpei

    Pops Racer = Daisuke Mifune

    Mom Racer = Aya Mifune

Rex Racer a.k.a. Racer X = Kenichi Mifune (Fukumen Racer)

    Trixie = Michi Shimura

  • holy crap he just killed that guy 35 secs in

  • *Checks video to hear some more of that SR theme*

Hmm, that top comment seems familiar...

    wait a minute...

    IT'S MINE!

  • @Pkmaxey Might want to read the video title or the description again. ;)

  • @TreadwellJay HA HA!!! So true... That non-reading moron needs to have his grandma get him a subscription to "Highlights" or "Weekly Reader" and get him into a Sylvan Learning Center.

  • cooool

  • The new Speed Racer cartoon on Nickelodeon or "Nicktoons" is a remix of this song.

  • nice cartoon....

  • Whoever wrote this song (lyrics and melody) wrote a freakin' excellent song!

  • magnifico tenia 07 años cuando veía la serie; a la fecha 36 años; por favor pueden desarrollar un icono para bajar los vídeos.

  • i love when he jumps out of his car

  • I can watch this until Sparky and ChimChim come on, then forget it!

  • I remember watching this show when I was 5 on Cartoon Network, now I'm 17 good memories

  • @z3roM80 Check Boomerang for reruns of Cartoon Network's old shows.

  • @z3roM80 haha me too!!

  • everything seems so familiar!!

  • The original and still the best!

  • @HaruhiFanNumber1 how old are u?

  • That one car had to be a car bomb from Iraq to have blown up like that lol.

  • @3981supersonic hahahah you are right, it blown up like a volcan explosion!

  • @nessi68DKFC Lol true that

  • Love this! I really miss my childhood.

  • Ah 60's anime. Back when english dubbing was spoken fast due to Japanese animation making the character's mouths move at incredible speed.

  • the first pilot bisexual

  • I loved this when I was a kid. In hindsight, it's absolutely amazing that they animated those '3-d' rotations of the car and Speed by hand. Especially that full 90 degree one at the end. And the car was always 'on model' in the show. Hmm... and Speed murders someone at 0:42. As a kid I never noticed that. :LOL

  • Can anyone identify the historical "car" leading the end credits parade, with the wooden wheels and Speed is driving by pulling a chain?

  • i use to watch this and Kimba the white lion after school in the late 60s early 70s thanks for the walk down memory lane

  • you know, creater of speed racer, tatsuo yoshida, didin't have driver license, and could not drive car.

they say, that's why he could make creative car action anime, with free imaginations.

    this is famous story. :D

  • @kunoichiism that's pretty interesting.

  • Comment removed

  • This show taught me to love driving cars, fast!

  • I think the song sounds better in this pitch compared to the 1990s version.

  • 1:04 to 1:06, original matrix pose.

  • старая вещь, но как цепляет!!!

  • This opening kicks ass.

  • 0:42 WTF!BOOOM

  • lol love it Go speedracer and mach 5 !

  • 36 people do not look alive.

  • was there a nuke in that car wth 0_0

  • It was stuff like this that made the 90's the best time!

  • I'm getting the complete series today. :)

  • Peter Fernandez died? But his Racer X voice was EPIC.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    R.I.P. childhood

  • @EliroX904 i agree, his voice was really epic

  • @EliroX904 For all of you who may not know. Peter Fernandez starred in an awesome 1948 movie called

"City Across The River" about Brooklyn Street gangs in the 1940s. It also starred a young Tony Curtis and Thelma Ritter. It's a very good movie, you ought to check it out. To my knowledge, it's the first time the word "spic" was used in a movie. Which is hilarious because Peter Fernandez uses that word, meanwhile in real life he was Spanish himself. I guess that's why it's called acting!!

  • @EliroX904 peter fernandez did the voice of mark venture in the starblazers bolar wars....(the original venture voice wasn't available)...

  • 1:05

    OMG 3D EFFECTS IN A 1960s ANIME!!!

  • I loved "Speed Racer" growing up. First started watching it in the '70s.

  • The 90s version used to be on Speed Channel back when they were remastered.

  • The woman who did the voices for Trixie and Spritle on "Speed Racer" went on to provide the voice for Snuggle, the fabric softener teddy bear. Her name is Corinne Orr.

  • I can never forget the sound of this.

  • Did you know that Speed Racer was once shown on MTV back in the '90, but that was when that Net. was worth watching. Now is it nothing but garbage they do not even show music video any more.

  • 海外版でも、日本オリジナルのメロディだったんですね。

    それだけ良い曲だったということでしょうね。

    車好きは世界共通ですね、今観てもわくわくします。

  • TatsunokoPro is too pro

  • lol the time when attempting to cheat and kill to win a race was fun

    oh wait its still fun

  • Cool show, cool theme song, one of my favorite shows as a kid. The remastered episodes are on DVD and I have them. My own kids, ages 9, 6 and 5 love them. BTW, did you notice during the end credits that after the 1960's era car, there was a "jet car" on wheels and then a flying car? That's what was expected in the space-age 1960's. Too bad we in 2011 still have plain old cars that need gas.

  • Anyone else ever heard that the cartoon drawing of Speed was based on Elvis?

  • Brings back memories.... afternoons after school

  • now thats old school

  • I am not your father haha, ahhhhh!

  • This was a great show. Sad to say that Warner Bros. RUINED the movie, it had so much potential! Warners should have taken the idea seriously, but they unfortunately went all Spy Kids on us.

  • My mom grew up watching speed racer, and in turn she raised me on it. LOL 18 years later and I still would rather watch it than anything else out there.

  • Speed Racer was on TV end 60's on TV in the USA i wached it as a kid when we lived in the states

  • they use to play the unremastered original version of speed race, the 1 shown here wen i was in second grade on cartoon network in the middle of the night. i use to set my alarm to wake up and watch it. it came on either before or after gumby. who remembers that? round 1998-1999

  • Comment removed

  • thank you to the creaters of cartoon network for boomerang. now im not forced to watch the stupid cartoons of today. well some of adult swim is good but cartoons jus ain't like they use to be.

  • some one please give me a response to this! i know they are different era of manufacturing but if anybody has seen it, DOESN'T THE FORD GT LOOK LIKE A MODERN VERSION OF THE MACH 5!

  • @slysupersonic

Not really, The 1981-1982 Corvette does! Just paint it white, put an M on the hood and a # 5 on the door, and you'll see.

  • @slysupersonic

Not really, The 1981-1982 Corvette does! Just paint it white, put an M on the hood and a # 5 on the door, and you'll see. Look at it from the side.

  • @cuteladys3 im up for it whats up

  • watched this when i was little (born in 1991) and it is still good even after all these years. I wish there were cartoons like this for my generation.

  • @AeroSail727 - I agree, brings back so much fond memories as a kid watching this show =)

  • @deep388 I used to break curfew to watch this show XD!!

  • Now this is the good shit. I grew up watching this every morning before heading off to kindergarten class. I used to sing the song as a kid but always said "doci racer" instead of "go speed racer", lmao. Wish my kids could grow up on this stuff instead of the garbage on tv.

  • CAN I HAVE SOME OF YOUR MILK SPEED?

  • This is great stuff. Reminds me of happy go lucky, simpler times. I used to hurry home from school to watch Speed Racer followed by Ultra Man. Good times baby...good times.

  • @80sjamming Ultraman was on every day at 3pm where I lived. You are right my friend, some of the best times in life!

  • I love this cartoon XD

  • ...he killed someone in the opening sequence. he bumped into them and they exploded after flying off a cliff. wtf?

  • @liegeofshadows Yep, the guy in the red car on "Speed Racer" is like the crew member in the red shirt on "Star Trek" - you know they're gonna "buy the farm".

  • 0:45 red car falls on a nuclear silo..

  • It's funny lol

  • This is probably the anime where I like the dub intro better.

  • is that michael jackson?

  • i still want a white 'vette with a red M on it

  • a staple for Kaiser Braodcasting stations in LA, San francisco, Detroit, Cleveland, philadelphia, and boston

  • @jgc760 Yes indeed! I grew up watching that Kaiser Boston station (WKGB, Channel 56 - now it's WLVI and it's CW). The Kaiser in Kaiser-Globe Broadcasting refers to Edgar Kaiser, the bastard who's responsible for us having shitty HMOs today (he's the Kaiser of Kaiser Permanente; he started out as an aluminum tycoon with Kaiser Metals and then bought Globe Broadcasting).

  • 1:05 the first matrix effect ever

  • @0428733

The cartoons back then were awesome. No comparison to today's silly cartoons.. even the songs back then were catchy and cool!

  • @:41 seconds thats a toyota for ya!

  • Go Speed Racer gooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

  • Whattttt :( Embedding disabled by request -____- gerrr.

  • This is a lot older than 1990! I watched this in black & white on our old TV when I was 7 in 1968!

  • @IrisMG Yes. I said the show was remastered around 1990, not made in 1990. :)

  • @IrisMG

Roman Numerals on this episode say 1966

  • @Bondianwolf Thank you.

  • @IrisMG - Digging that brother - I was born in 64" and I remember this from way back - Peace to you and yours...

  • @er6789er 1964--you to? I watched S-R when it first came on in late '69 along with Astro-Boy, Gigantor, Marineboy & the British import, Thunderbirds. Thank you God for letting me be a kid back then! I've said elsewhere on Youtube that I've been reliving my childhood since I was 6 yrs old!(Heh)

  • @IrisMG it was end 60's when that came out i lived in USA then and was watching it on TV

  • @IrisMG it was the 1970's

  • @Pisces31660 First of all, WRONG, second of all, why in the hell do I still care about this?!

  • @IrisMG LOL good question at the end...may i ask how old or young u may be? i'm late 40's plz believe me when i say it wasn't the first Speed Racer in the 90's......it was the 70's early too...

  • @Pisces31660 Yes, if you'll note my comment from 3 months ago (which I assumed is the one you were replying to in the first place) I was 7 in 1968 when I first saw Speed Racer. I turn 50 in ten days.

  • @IrisMG "Speed" debuted in Japan in 1966 and was syndicated in an English version to the States and other English speaking countries in '67. Most of the TV stations that aired it were independent stations, usually on the UHF dial. Its popularity was instantaneous, and apparently you (as do I) remember it very fondly.

  • @IrisMG I USE TO LOOK AT THIS IN THE EARLY 1970'S HERE IN LOS ANGELES ON UHF CHANNEL 56

  • @sierria64 That's great news man.

  • @sierria64 I grew up in the Boston area, and used to watch it on Channel 56 as well. Both stations may have been the same one, because Channel 56 was a Kaiser-Globe station and was one of the earliest "pay TV" or cable stations in the US. Do you remember if the call letters of your station were WKGB? If they were, they were the same as mine.

  • RIP Peter Fernandez,

    English voice of Speed Racer

  • @Ethercast OHHHH! AHHHHH! HUHHHHH?

  • @Ethercast ...que descanse en paz. Meteoro es uno de mis dibujos animados favoritos de la infancia, fantastico. Saludos desde Perú.

-rest in peace. Speedis one of my favorite cartoons of children, fantastic. Greetings from Peru.

  • I miss this show so much and I remember they still ran the original openings and closing segments from the syndicated versions in the 1970`s

  • Ahh...I had such a crush on Speed when I was, like, four years old. I thought he could do anything.

  • @DisneyBlackJet Me too.

  • Ahhh..... Childhood memories..... :-]

  • The detail, shading and artwork in the 1960's Speed Racer still rivals some modern anime. The Mach 5 remains one of the coolest car designs in history.

  • 0:47 - some big ass explosion for just a car.

  • I like how they have the antique cars at the end.

  • sigh... RIP Peter "Speedy"

  • R.I.P Peter Fernandez!

    he'll be greatly missed *sniff*

  • R.I.P. Peter Fernandez!

(He died from lung cancer this morning)

  • every car has an atomic bomb for every simple crash = fact

  • bien carajo

  • 00:43 O.o its safe to say that speed racer killed a guy xD

  • I'm onlly 15 and I freaking love speed racer along with any older cartoons. the live action movie was ok I guess but old speed racer ftw

  • Did you notice at 2:17 when speed jumps out, time pauses and the camera spins around him. Where did we see that effect later in film? THE MATRIX, and then who made the speed racer movie? Same directors! Wow~ Speed did it first!

  • The Good Stuff here! Thanks for the upload. And oh, yeah... I STILL WANT THE MACH 5! LOL!

  • he was my first love - miss you speed racer

  • TATSUNOKO FTW

  • My bad I stand checked I dig this cool no matter what!

  • @wildwildwest1414 This cool cartoon go go go!

  • Iloved this cartoon then I was a little kid. Even now I had remembered this. Cool cartoon =D

  • is this version dated 1966?

  • HA HA! I AM NOT ACTUALLY YOU'RE FATHER HA HA!

  • mindboggling

  • now this is the REAL SPEEEEEDDDDD! wow, nice and loved this cartoon!

  • The size of that explosion- was the car fitted with a miniature nucleur reactor or something?!

  • Go Speed Ricer, Go.

  • Man Speed Racer looks really queer. But the song is so awesome that i forgive him :)

  • Americans ruin everything
