I, In all honesty, hated this opening, purely because it didn't fit the mood of the anime in it's entirety. Sure, a song like this for an anime such as, say, Samurai Champloo would have worked, but not for this. That, and the fact that they use sounds from the show itself kind of ruins the song, I enjoyed the first opening better.

You obviously watched the "Americanized" version of the anime, amirite? In original, 2nd GIG is opened by "Rise" sung by Origa (A russian female singer, working with Yoko Kanno). This song, btw, is made by Yoko Kanno as well.

No, I think the opening the person was talking about was "Inner Universe" by Yoko Kanno and Origa, the opening for the first season. There was no Americanized opening when the show was aired in the US on [adult swim] and 2nd gig was aired with "Rise" too. Not all anime aired in the US has an edited opening like DBZ or Naruto.

I think he meant exactly this video. Reason? Direct quote "...the fact they use sounds from the show..." - no version of "Inner Universe" utilized anime sounds, whereas this video includes grunts and the like from GitS.

this one is used for the Japanese terrestrial TV. The cable and satellite TV still use 'Inner Universe'. SAC 2nd GIG also have different op for the Japanese terrestrial TV.
