To the atheist, however, doing what is right is what should be done just because doing what is right is right, following the Durkheim principle. Likewise, the finite existence forces the atheist to do as much good in ~60 years as possible, making their work earnest. Life is precious because it ends.

@icemancopeland In that case, I feel sorry for all those African and Australian tribal cultures who did not have the chance to learn about Jesus because they died off before missionaries visited those parts of the world. Indeed, if the act of being born again is required for the afterlife, then God has condemned millions just because they were born in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm not sure I would want to spend eternity a God who would condemn due to that.

@icemancopeland If God is perfect, loving and righteous, please explain the events in Numbers 31:13-18. What I read is that Moses got directions from God to kill all the men, women and boy children when they invade, but to keep the young girls who have not known a man alive "for yourselves." "For yourselves" appears in every translation I've encountered. Why would a perfect, loving, righteous God command his people to keep little girls for themselves (polite talk for rape them)?

The reason why I use the bible is so that I can empathize with your position and come from a standard playing field in our discussion. It has nothing to do with belief or lack thereof.
Since Jesus had not been born yet, would it not have been wiser to keep the sinners alive so that their sins could have been removed by Jesus, thus allowing his creation to join him in heaven, sin-free?

Can a child not wonder about the world around him and ask the authority that rules over all for clarification when it doesn't make sense? Is it wrong for a being that was given a mind that can question authority to use that mind to question authority?

@icemancopeland Proof that your God is not unlimited: According to you, God cannot stop us from going to hell directly. We need to choose to be born again through the blood of Jesus. He has chosen to allow us, his favorite creation to be tormented for all eternity due to sin. If he was unlimited, a truly loving God would not allow his favorite creation to be eternally tortured, or would never have created, since God created everything, the possibility of sin in the first place.

The level of knowledge is too much for most people to comprehend. We trust it to someone else, those people who can basically tell us anything and we'll buy. Atheism is a kind of belief. In chaos or whatever. But damn better to believe in half a dozen guys at the lab than on a creature created of good and justice who will damn us to eternal pain.

I believe that science is our primary means of obtaining knowledge and that it is the only thing that gives us hope of ever cracking the big riddles of the human life, the Universe and beyond. But this, sadly, is not atheism. I used to call it that, but it appears that we are kind of wrong. However, I believe that, although not unofficially, the definition of an atheist has changed - rational non-theism+lab coat+glasses - or something like that. Maybe we're scientologists? :)
