Just watched this movie. Wonderful. One wonders why the writer didn't get the money to Amal at the end, but then maybe that's so we think there are many "Amals" out there that need this money... This would motivate us to give charitably and to those who truly deserve to receive.

It seems that in India it's a popular Hindu name. As many Hindus choose this name for their sons, I don't think it has anything to do with the Arabic meaning of it.

The movie shows the true soul of an Indian, i loved the movie. Much better than Slumdog Millionaire which barely has any truth whatsoever.

Many of Hollywood movies that portray America are not that accurate either, it's not meant to be and they never claimed it was, it's a feel good movie and human perseverance and love so seriously leave Slumdog out of it, Amal is a great movie bass

This movie portrays the deep soul of India. Compared to Slum-Dog, where the main-actor of exclusive private school stuff tried to emulate the more humble spirit of the poorer Indian of the slum, the guy Amal had all the trueness of the authentic Indian soul.

I was lucky enough to interview the director, and had asked him the same question-- it is a Mir Taqi Mir ghazal, and was sung/composed by Dr. Shiva, who played G.K Jayaram in the short film version of Amal.

There have been many good..even great Indian films in the past few years.. Before the Rains.. Taare Zaameen Par.. Namesake..and on the lighter side films like Dus Kahaniyaan which are at least trying new formats... BUT THIS MOVIE BLEW THEM ALL OUT OF THE WATER. It was brilliant and beautiful. It was as satisfying as reading a really good book.

saw this at in Dallas at AFI. I hope that with the hype around Slumdog Millionaire that we can see a public release of this movie as well. I still prefer this one over Slumdog to tell the truth!

such a fantastic flick! also caight it at TIFF, and i think everyone was pretty taken by it. the acting wasnt perfect, but the story was so enjoyable that it really didnt matter!
