I agree on the F-16XLs performance its truley an amazing fighter. Weapons payload and manuverbility is impressive because of its wing shape. Its more stable
I would install CFTs to make under wing hardpoints free for aams as AIM-120 and AIM-9X, EW pods and PGM, AESA radar from today Block 60, IRST from that version offered to India and 3D TVC. This way fitted it surely deserved respect from every fighter in the air, doesn't matter it's generation.
also performed better,i talked too a 22 pilot and they said this beast could perform just as good as a F-22 but inevitably they took the F-15E too keep boeings line going
this aircraft was so ahead of it's time. the eurofighter looks like an F16XL with front canardsd and twin engines. wiki says NASA can't seem to keep it's hands off the 2 existing planes. very cool.
Brilliant. Yep, the superior F-16XL should have been securing the sky today, IMO. It's rare to see XL representing vids on Youtube so good job..
Just add GE-132 power, SABR radar, CFT and 3-D TVC for good measure.
IMHO, with the economic reality USAF is facing, they should reconfigure perhaps 100+ F-16C/D to such modifications, some fitted for AE/EW role and some even perhaps for tactical in-flight buddy-refueler.
Those could fly until 2025 +/- to best augment the reduced unit AF.
The F-16 XL was the greatest fighter/bomber aircraft of its era but it never entered production!

F 16 XL IS GOOD BEACUSE I SAW IT IN COMBAT

@kinglu1000 F16-XL was never used in combat. It was a platform for NASA and the USAF to test the use of delta wing shapes for combat aircraft.

I believe we should have one that can deliver the payload of Bombs and Missiles buts it is an X plane meaning experimental!

Wonderful plane with fine performance.

They should have adopted the F-16XL instead of the F-15E. It just looks cooler.

The crank arrow wing can be fitted to any F-15. It is a shame it never went into production.

Any idea how much it would cost to convert 100+ F16C/D to F16XL?
