  • I too have this. Advil works wonders for me. It's night and day for managing the pain. I write this at 6am because I woke from the intense pain. Also just started on antibiotics. Hope this goes away soon. Now I know why my dentist suggested I remove my wisdom teeth even tho I had no issues. This probably hurts just as much if not more then the surgery.

  • Well this sucks.. First off did not see the dentist yet since the pain started on Th and now its Sunday after doing alot of research pretty sure this is what I have. Been taking 800mg of advil every day 400mg when I wake up then 400mg at night chase it down with milk not good if you take them on empty stomach. Since we are dealing with a bacteria infection it is very important that after anything you eat you rinse with hot salt water and if you have a big meal you brush after and do the rinse

  • If you apply banking soda directly to the site of the Pericoronitis, it would provide almost instant relief

  • Keep rinsing with warm salty water and mouthwash. Then convince your pharmacist to sell you some 'NUROFEN PLUS', It took the pain away in about 15min and kept it painless for about 2 hours. I just took more pills as needed. Eventually went away.

  • I have this shit right now. It is impossible to sleep. And It hurts like none other

  • libya free

  • @79Dami corsodyl man

  • yo this is so annoying i really hate this pain -_-.. all i can do is gargle salt water and brush better? -sigh-

  • @BL3ST1NE me and you both...havent sleept in 2 days. I would advise going to see your dentist/doctor

  • Some useful advice in the comments, I don't have much pain but the smell is pretty awful from all that bacteria. Gonna try salt water (It saw off a nasty sore throat earlier this year)!

  • I know this may sound disgusting but I take a pin and pierce the gum and push with my fingers all of the bacteria out and then gargle salt water and mouth wash take a pill. Swelling is gone pain is fading and it all goes away a lot faster than they say

  • my wisdom teeth are fully erupted and there perfect alinement and i dont have trouble what so ever do i still need them extracted ?

  • *PLEASE READ*

My wisdom teeth just started to pierce my gum lining. The left totth came first and it is coming in normal and should be able to extract the tooth easily. Now the right tooth seems to have everything that pericoronitis seems to be except for one thing. The pain, I do not have a constant pain like they are described. Could this be an early stage? Trying to set up a doctors appointment but do not have insurance. thankyou

  • Guys, ladies, after reading this board I finally feel I belong somewhere, like I've found my place in life, even if it is a pericoronitis group. Every comment perfectly describes how I feel and the way I am now :) Difficulty bitting, can hardly sleep, pain never goes away, my tongue hurts, throat as well, jaw too, day two, but hey, I'm not alone :) I also read that cleansing with Salvia officinalis tea helps, as this herb is a natural antiseptic and an anesthetic as well. All the best!

  • I have this right now and it is painful! I suffered through it for two days before It got so bad and painful, I started looking into what it was. Thankfully this happens to a good amount of people. The SALT WATER rinses have really worked for me and I have an appointment to see my dentist at the end of the week. But it feels alot better now. I've also been brushing and rinsing constant with mouth wash diligently.

  • Wash your teeth with HOT not warm salt water 6 times a day helps

  • The pain is a pain in the ass... I treated it the first time on my lower wisdom teeth by just brushing it for 3 minutes and flossing and using listerine. The problem went away after a week or so. Altho if it's serious you need to get some pills and antibacterial mouthwash from your dentist, which can be a bit pricey... But this is preventable. Perservere my fellow pericoronitis victims!

  • You need these things to help with a gum infection near your wisdom teeth. A visit to your dentist to see if you can use anti-biotics, A new soft toothbrush so you don't hurt the gums. An Interspace toothbrush to clean your wisdom tooth (Be careful not to touch your infected gum). Colgate Peroxyl Mouth Wash to deal with mouth and gum irritations. And finally, a good bottle of Brandy!

I'm on day 5 of a world of pain and only now is it starting to get better. Hang on in there!!

  • I'm on a week with this damn pericoronitis and I'm fed up already. I have been just brushing and using mouthwash more than usual. I can't see any food stuck and tried scooping it out with a dental pick but that hurts. I can't wait to see a dentist. Hope he gives me strong pills for the infection so I can eat regular again. :)

  • I, for sure, know I have pericoronitis and I got it two days ago. Today is much worse than the previous days as it's now affecting my ability to bite down on food or just relax my entire mouth. I can't taste any food because I find myself just chomping on them and swallowing because the gum is so swollen! I hate life.

  • Lucky for me, I live in Canada so there are alot of options when it comes to payment for these types of things. Alot of jobs do offer benefits, and also if you are under 25 and your in school and your parent chooses to cover you under their benefits then you are good to go. Also social assistance covers any kind of dental emergencies and medication I believe?

  • Ive had this for 2 days now :(

My dentist is out of town.

    Uggh

  • @Bluie33

Good luck, I had this at the beginning of the month. I basically just went to a dentist and they gave me some amoxicillan to take three times a day for 7 days. They also then reffered me to some one else in order to get my wisedom teeth extracted. I just got my wisedom teeth extracted today and the pain that I am dealing with this is WAY better than having pericoronitis... I strongly suggest getting the buggers pulled out.

    Pericoronitis is UNBEARABLE.

  • Like 99% of the sufferers ultimately have that unerupted wisdom tooth removed. the 1% are the lucky ones who solve the problem and no more infection. Usually the infection just keeps coming back as long as your wisdom tooth is still stuck halfway in the gum.

  • I'm so glad that this comment board has become like a place where we victims of pericoronitis can share our experiences and exchange tips!

  • What a pretty dental assistant!

  • I also have this. But i read you can't get the Wisdom tooth extracted until the infection is gone, so sad day. But its the winter break and I don't have to worry about school. Only 3 more finals then the dentist!

    ...

Oh and I'm using listerine cause it has the most alcohol content.

  • I have pericoronitis right now and it is terrible. It just makes you miserable and I can't wait to have this wisdom tooth cut out. Pain medicine and orajel work ok but warm salt water rinses seem to help the most. I am getting the tooth removed asap.

  • I have this right now my dentist gave me metronidazole 200mg and a bottle of corosodyl mouthwash i hope to god this clears up and i wont need to have my wisdom tooth extracted its my bottom right btw and im in agony

  • @ROGERDERBY am on the same boat as you were...the metronidazole is prescribe only?

  • @perla07 ya i believe so mine cleared up in a week

  • I have this four days now...all my wisdom teeth erupted same time. Been to dentist and I am oral antibiotics. Cant chew or swallow...its the worst feeling ever . At least you all had it on one side at a time...I have it in my entire mouth...

  • @1charlz this is my second time having this...last time all 4 wisdom teeth were infected and my gums were completely red everywhere, bled like hell everytime i tried to clean my teeth. Now....3 outa 4 of my wisdom teeth are up and only my bottom left is swollen, you would think this wouldnt be so bad? Well you would be wrong! I cant move my jaw at all....everytime i swallow im in agony, my tonsilis are infected too, can barely move my neck my lymph nodes in my neck are so swollen....eugh.. :(

  • @Dom20002007 I feel your pain man I've had this 6 times now! Can't even sleep.

  • I have this problem at the moment, im in agony i cant eat i cant even sleep yet all i can think about is how hot she is...

  • I currently have this, about 2-3 days so far. I just found out! It's not too painful for me, just discomfort because of the gum swelling, can't bite/chew food well in that left side so have to use right side. I'm going to rinse warm salt water now. Hope it gets better because I don't have insurance to go to dentist!

  • @nightxangelx528 hey, mind giving me an update of how did it go for you?, I got this terrible pain for few days now and I don't even know if it's getting any better.. you posted this comment a month ago so I presume you got rid of it by now, thanks

  • it hurts so much, that i cant even eat properly.

  • I am suffering with this right now and it's the worst pain I have ever experienced. There's no let up, it's constant 24/7 and even wakes me up from sleep. Thankfully I'm going to see my dentist tomorrow. Warm salt water does help.

  • omg... i just got this today and it hurts toooo frikken much... :[ i can't even eat

  • I have this. and I'll probably need the surgery or extraction to get the wisdom tooth out. great.

  • Hurts like hell!

  • how long does it for it to feel better once u start antibiotics? just to see if its working.

  • im havin it now.thks for the info. now i feel really scared :( ouch ouch

  • you are very cute and informative thank you

  • this pain is so freaking irritating. sigh....

    Michelle, thanks for the tips!

  • cant u use some form of peroxide or Mouth wash?

  • @andTheCreativist ; no, go to your dentist.

  • hey guys . my wisdom tooth has erupted completely just like all regular teeth. but the problem is, i have a flap of gum that sits on the wisdom tooth. and whenever i bite down im basically biting on it. any help please. its very painful. im 13 by the way.

  • same here man, all we can do is see a dentist.

  • 1:26 "It's a medicated numbing agent" really? as opposed to an unmedicated numbing agent I suppose. [/sarcasm]

Sorry. Ahh im just worried because around last night I noticed a little bit of sensitivity near the side of my mouth where my wisdom teeth were not removed (advice of the surgeon who said they were fine).

This morning that 'little sensitivity' = full blown soreness. gonna see my campus' health clinic in 15 mins/.

  • The numbing agent is Anbersol, in case anyone is wondering.

  • i'd love to let her examine me ;)

  • i have this problem right now :(

i went to the dentist about 2 weeks ago and he prescribed some antibiotics they got rid of the pain but dident fully clear the infection so basicly im just waiting to phone the dentist up im a little scared because he told me if the infection comes back ide have to go to hospital to have it out :(

  • the hospital? wtf

  • so what happened now? did you get it extracted? I am having the problem now. :O

  • Very informative. Thanks!

  • Hi, My wisdom tooth is partially erupted with the gum partially curving over the tooth. It got infected which was painful which I treated with mouth wash and constant brushing. This was 2 years ago. However this pain was back around the same area, including the right hand side of my throat which is the same side as my partially erupted wisdom tooth. Do I have a major form of Pericoronitis and what should I do?? For some reason this pain came back the night after I had a lot of candy.

  • I think its best if you just get the extraction done. its a lil expensive but you will no longer have the problem. I recently had the same pro as you and I'm now book at the dentist to have it removed.

  • Well you can also use warm water and salt , or you can bring a plastic syringe and fill it with saline and hydrogen peroxide and wash it , but of course its not safe to do this at home. Consult your dentist to save time and to lessen any complication.

  • Thanks.....:)
