If you wiki "The lonesome death of Hattie Carrol", this was based on a real murder. Though in the wiki article it talks about how dylan skews the facts to further the meaning of the song, but any man who assaults hotel staff, calls them racial slurs, as well as attacking his own wife, deserves no sympathy.
@karenclulow1 I'm sorry I have to stop you right there cause apparently your an idiot and somehow thought that me saying the song is "fucked up" implied that I meant it was a shitty song..... Did you listen to the lyrics like i said in my comment? Do you know what the song is about? Because that is what I was implying, that the lyrics and the meaning behind them is really fucked up... I said the lyrics are fucked up because of what they are and what they mean and the story they tell. Great Song.
@cocochanelleke William Zanzinger was a wealthy tobacco farmer in Maryland in the earyl1960's. One night in an upscale hotel in Baltimore he got drunk, and out of control. Hattie Carrol was a barmaid in the hotel that was serving him, she refused to serve him another drink cause he was too drunk. He screamed racial slurs at her and hit her repeatedly with a cane in the head. She died 9 hours later. He killed a mother of 11 and only received 6 months in prison.
is this actually bale singing?

The song is "fucked up", as you so eloquently put it? How so? Are you better than Dylan as a songwriter/poet in your own mind? I have to know.

@karenclulow1
I think that he was talking about the story, not the songwriting.

effs, effed, sh.ts and so forth.
And please don't call me an idiot when you reply.
Thanks in advance,

yea of course, its kind of funny cause you can see him implying that in this song and it's scary how much it relates to contemporary society...
