-A Nuclear deal needs approval from 44 countries of the union of which USA is a influential entity.

-A Nuclear deal would mean that Pakistan need to sign CTBT.

-Pakistan is broke, none will invest in unstable Pakistan for expensive Nuclear technology.

-Iran has plenty of power to share.

-The Govt of Pakistan is not legitimate and corrupt.

-Pakistan is a failed state and India is an emerging economy of BRIC.

Saudi Arabia is another factor in this Pak US nuclear deal. Pakistan's nukes belong to this unsaid union of Middle Countries. Pak Nukes basically are used as deterrence in the Middle East against Israel. Some Middle East countries are uncomfortable about Iran getting Nuclear Weapons, because Iran is a majority Shia country. Also, The value of American dollar is based on black gold ( OIL) So the US doesn't want to piss of Saudis to much. US supports India to keep a check on Pak and China.

On the other hand, USA will have to take some risk of eventually the Bomb "falling " into the hands of Islamists.

The pro Israel lobby will have very interesting thoughts on Pakistani Bomb. As such the Pakistanis are making more than necessary threatening gestures towards Israel.

Pakistan's posture towards Israel is well known.

It remains to be seen whether the Americans will offend Israel by giving modern nuclear technology to Pakistan which is dependent on USA for almost everything.

There are conflicting signals coming out of USA camp.

While Ann Patterson seems to think that the deal is possible, Washington seems to be in two minds as far as the emanating signals are concerned.

If US were to give Pakistan a similar Nuclear deal, at best Pakistan will kill a few more Taliban but not all. They will keep some Taliban for a rainy day. At worst they will hand over some nuclear material or even a bomb to Palestinians. So it really depends upon How USA thinks.

well US has to work on this and not let pak hold US for ransom- which is more like wat is happening(they refuse to fight the terrorist inside pak if US doesnt pay for it)

if pak destabilizes US will have to neutralize those nuke sites, which US doesn't knw whr, even India doesn't knw
