@iAnimeLover0h2 Was just about to post about that subject. It has to be like this to be somewhat realistic. Let's looks t it differently. The man has to be older. Young men are impulsive, easy to fall/crush, looking for only sex. But he has to be old enough to show this isn't about perversion or sex. 27-29 great age, looking to settle down, in a serious love relationship. Has to be the youngest end of that range though to make the gap as small as possible. I'm going to have to 2 post this.
@Houstain The girl needs to be old enough to be able to make conscious decisions but not old enough for them hanging together to seem really weird. So that rules out 20+, if you ever want to show hand holding that rules out 16+. I'd have said 5 yr difference would be max but that would make the man 20 and the girl 15. The man would be seen as just wanting sex at that age. Now 15 is seriously young for a girl but it couldn't be shown in any other way. So in the show 12 yr difference. 27 + 15

The problem with inbreeding is that you throw genes back into the mix that have been seperated before. therefore if there is any defects in the genes they can be matched again.
Therefore the chance of their childs getting a syndrome of some kind isn't 100% it's more like 60 or 40% which is ofc pretty high.
@MrPandawesome I agree with your lower percentage of illness (look at the royalty of Europe major incest(inbreeding) there higher levels of anemia and such but not every child. The other thing thought to consider is that at 15 she is definitely to young yo be a mother. She could bare children but give them 5 years she is 20 he is 32. Not too bad but as males age out of prime, more genetic difficulties can occur in their offspring. Male prime is like 22-25 or something like that.
@Houstain Well the age of the mother is more crucial in these things. The eggs are present in the ovaries since birth, sperm gets made in the testicles every day. genetic errors are more likely with older women. The percentage to have a child with syndrome of down shoots up after 40-45.
Koi Kaze and Rumbling hearts have always been my favorite Anime series. They 're both beautifully written without portraying the stories in an immature and childish way. I would call this a beautiful and tragic romance.
I don't think most of you think in a practical way. There are some human boundaries that love shouldn't cross and this is one of them. It's childish to think about love in such a way. Love is the most important thing in our lives, but you need to understand what it means.
It really is a good story, with the only thing that makes it wrong to the people who watch are all these taboo views on incest we have in the world. If a person can find someone in life they love truly, who are we to judge them on it? I say if it makes them happy then I won't juge anyone for who they fall in love with. I think this was an amazing story, having the ability to talk about such an uncomfortable topic. Thankyou so much for posting it!
I'm surprised by the amount of people who disapprove of the age gap. 10 or so years is not a large difference. My mother was 17 when she married my father (27), and much younger when the began dating. It was not considered taboo by family, infact my grandparents were the ones trying to set them up. If you love someone none of those kinds of things matter. They are still very happily married more than 20 years later :)

Ok I have just got to put my two cents in. I love this couple. I don't care for incest ( though I am biased since I read flowers in the attic). But this couple...is just breathtaking. They know what the reaction from socitey would be, so they have to choices. Suicide or accepting it. But they choose to accept it and that is just awsome. By saying I don't give a fuck they earn my respect. Such an underrated series and awsome music. Incest isn't right but you can't help who you love.
If it didn't touch a nerve, it wouldn't be much of a story to tell. Setting aside whether or not I approve of the relationship, this is one of the best dramas I've seen in a long time. Probably because it has a part of you bouncing between understanding them and being disturbed.

I guess only someone living in Japan could find out the respective age for their prefecture by asking the local police office wherever they live.
Greatest love story ever told. The one who sees this as a perversion is not mature enough. Their love is pure enough and It is not their crime or choice, to be siblings.
Really... One day I hope I would be able to write a story like this, truly inspirational and heart-warming. I do admit though that I face palmed quite a few times in a good way.

What was accomplished was that Koshiro finally was able to love somebody. It really is that simple. True love is never a choice, which is the deeper underlying message of this story. If you look at this through the lens of morality, then you're missing the entire point. Good luck and I hope you enjoy re-watching Shuffle!.

Rarely you find anime like this. The story was beautiful throughout as well as touching. I still don't know what to say about the ending, but I felt that it was appropiate in any case.
