In the winter I dedicate 8 CPU cores to World Community Grid and it heats my office! The cost of the computing power is completely offset by the savings at the furnace which has to run a lot less. I've donated 60 CPU-days to the Computing for Clean Water project in the last week and more than 9 years of CPU time since I started. This is a GREAT way to make a difference in the world, quite literally while you sleep. If you have a computer, you can participate. Highly recommended!
This is so great... Being a full time student, I am short on both donation funds, as well as time, so I see this as an excellent opportunity to help!

This is far from an original or innovative idea. BOINC and Seti@Home have been doing this for years. I have been using Seti@Home since early 2007.
