Amateurish? Please... these guys did their part to fight a fire and you sit there and critcize them with your armchair expertise. Did you see a small ridge in front of the fire when the 212 was dumping? There was a hot spot on the other side hidden from view. BTW, that was a P2V Neptune, not a B-26.
this might sound retarded but you know how f4's in vietnam would drop napalm bombs and you know how the napalm spreads, what happened if the airforce modify f16's or a10's to drop water bomb that burst in the air over the fire
Man, that Turbo Tracker did a HIGH drop. Coverage level couldn't have been very good on that one. Odd to see the helicopter operating right where his drop was, too.
I don't drive and was home alone when this fire broke out. Lucky for me, my mom was on her way back to her office after lunch, saw the smoke and called me. I walked out on our deck, saw the smoke and knew it was coming up Stilson Canyon towards Wilder Dr. So I started packing even before the Sheriff showed up to tell us to leave. We had some very close calls because of wind and flare ups, but all the homes here survived.
I'm here in Paradise and we wouldn't have a home if wasn't for the over 3,500 firefighters that fought this evil fire. They all did amazing work and put their lives on the line to save us and our town. There are not enough words to express my gratitude. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
I live on Crestwood Drive in paradise. There's an area of homes not too far from me where I was able to get a good vantage point of the fire.
I'm really not supposed to still be at my house, as the fire people came by my house and told us we should evacuate, but my parents didn't want to go. I do, though. If only to escape the heat.
Did the helicopter even hit fire with his first drop or was he "pre-treating" the fuels in front of the fire??? J/k, actually, the aircraft are what save our butts on a daily basis when it comes to wind driven fires. Great job with this video!
I live in New Orleans and though I lost my house in Katrina, I'd rather live under the threat of hurricanes that you can see coming at you 3 days out than the fires and potential for earthquake that you guys have to live with in California.
i live in paradise, dude, they pull you out by your arm for evacuations, you think in your head:HOLY CRAP! So I couldnt bring my camera because the guy said : Immediate evacuation, if you do not comply, we will take you under arrest! NOT HELPFUL
The roads, however, WERE closed, so if you were on either side, you could not get to the other. Fortunately for my family, some of us were on the Paradise side and were able to get the animals and meds out, whereas the rest of us were able to drive out to Yuba and get motel rooms for the several days that access home was closed.
We are FINALLY home, only to have an 8 hour power outage and have to go back to Chico for battery-operated lanterns....and witness a wreck where stop lights had failed...sigh. We're safe and sound at home now, and all is well. What a fiasco...but some have lost everything they had.
Ive lived in California 26 years and ive never felt an earthquake or even come close to having fire threaten where I live. I would hate to have an entire SEASON dedicated to Hurricanes every single year.
they said when evacuating, pack your stuff, your homes might not be here tomorrow. The wind shifted *thank god* and a bunch of bombers and such came from the santacruz fire the next day
O.k. cool, I live in lower Magalia (old Skyway across from Pentz) and I haven't really had time to hear the news, is there any chance of it gettin' up here? I don't think it will but you never know, they didn't think it would get into Paradise but it did.
Thanks for this! I have satellite and haven't been able to get any visuals on TV. You took me there with some great footage. Looking forward to Part 2!

Because that would probably be 1/10000th if not more of the effectiveness of large fire tankers.

I'm glad you're safe... but how can a fire be "evil"? It's just fire - it's a naturally occurring phenomenon :P Glad you're okay tho.
