@megacowdung xD dont be surprised by what you see in the movies some have a bit of truth like me ive thrown my blade at my oponent only to rush in with my sheath (was just messing around in kendo class but was still funny and effective surprisingly) its like every one gets caught up in the art of the katana sometimes the best weapon is ur mind or ur hands ive practices for countless hours how to counter weapons with my hands (may it be gun sword or staff or club)
Im Asian. Japanese and Korean to be fact. And there are racist people everywhere. So learn to look pass that mildness. Beauty and Harmony can only be as one if the real men and women can overcome such intolerance. Lead by example that's the way you get respect. Call me a Rice Head i care less.
learning kenjutsu has a real life application. When the zombies come, which weapon do you think is best for decapitating zombies?......hmmmm.....i wonder.......
@megacowdung If you watched the new "Predators" movie - it had an episode of a character using very real-looking kenjutsu while fighting a predator. Otherwise movie is pretty bad, just a cool moment. To be honest, I find real fighting styles in the movies to look WAY better than made up acrobatic bullshit.
Neither, the sabaki (foot movement) appears to be off, i believe its an homage to Tenshin shoden katori shinto ryu. i dont believe they are a legit school. but anyone can learns some of the techniques.
from what I have heard, the man who founded jinmukai had permission to teach only the sword techniques of Katori as part of an effort to increase awareness and appreciation of the Ryu, and in a broader sense, all the Japanese Koryu. Neither him nor his students have membership in the ryu because they have not taken Keppan (blood oath),but the kenjutsu and iaijutsu are legitimate. They cannot change the kata in any aspect, but they can pass on the sword teachings.
It looks very interesting to me but a bit.. fency. For example: Why is she often pulling the sword back from a save position behind her shoulder to pull it back again? It reminds me a bit like holding a sword backhand. Looks cool but should never be used in a real fight.
the intricacies and phylosophies of the japanese fencing although similar in manny aspects to european fencing tend to be varied.Usually is to avoid having the sword broken by your opponent or also a disarm.Offcourse is hard to see here for this is not the original performance of the style but a very good close imitation for the original check tenshi Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu of Otake sensei or Dr.Sugino school of the same art
But generally, when one incorporates techniques from another style, it does not involve copying the kata wholly and fully, with all the kata names and techniques within. When new ryu were founded, they had their influence from the founder's previous training, but they aren't carbon copies of what he learnt!
Unless, of course, times have changed along with the way people make 'new' things I guess.
The Video is preety good, However I am deeply offended by the term "rice heads", from the previous poster. I hope your account is deleted! Such racist, intolerance has no place in any community.
If you want to blaze a trail, you are going to have arrows in your back. At least he is doing it and not sitting around wishing he was. You could take a lesson, you are the wannabe. You wannabe an authority, I dont see you positing evidence of your prowess or command of the art.
With so many rice heads out there that only think the Japanese can do this stuff, it is refreshing to see SOMEONE, non Japanese out there putting heart and soul into the art they love.
I don't care much about what style it is ! I just want to pay my respects for the work those to sword fighters did ...and which you can see from their nice kamae and ma-ai ! Good luck guys !!
Hmmm ... this looks extremely similar to Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto-Ryu ... But I have never heard of this Jinmukai style ... Is a new style of Kenjutsu?
AWESOME!
