They want to be happy, they want to provide for their families, etc. Anthropologists are evenly divided about the reality of race in humans. I'd argue that it still has a lot more to do with culture. Some ethnic groups do purport higher levels of intelligence though.

In NYC, I've noticed that asians, latinos, and even blacks tell their children that they should be weary of young ghetto black kids. Whites, on the other hand, are not like that, they preach to their children that they should not make preconceived judgments about strangers based on their skin color. Often times, their sense of anti-racist morality overcomes racial reality. I think learning things like this when you're young is important, otherwise, people will learn the hard way.

But when you see a group of young, rowdy, black or latino kids, I make my best effort to avoid them. I have smart black and latino friends and even they make those same judgments. I don't make the same assumptions about asians and whites because they're normally well behaved on aggregate.

@Mirani2 I'm not rude or hurtful to them, I simply avoid strangers in the street, and one of the criteria I use is race. Race factors in my analyses, because at least in my city it matters. The idea that more crimes are committed by blacks than by whites/other groups is fact. I don't believe it out of prejudice for blacks, it's statistically true. For strangers, I have little time to analyze their behavior if I'm walking on the street and frankly, most of them don't care what I think in my head.
@Mirani2 Also, I'm not white for the record. I'm Asian, so my actions don't necessarily affect what blacks will think of white people. It may affect what they think of Asians. Whenever I go around the outskirts of Chinatown (near the black neighborhoods), Chinese people, when they're not in groups, tend to avoid the ghetto black kids in the projects anyway. I've had Chinese friends tell this to me upfront and they have little qualms about it.

Hey, ramzpaul - please look up a video hosted at Google video called The Power of Nightmares." It is a 3 part (1 hour each) BBC documentary about the neocons vs the Muslim "extremists." I'll give you an example, the Arab countries, you'll see many people of various phenotypical traits, some of them white, some black, some people mixed with various ethnic backgrounds. They all hold their language, culture, and religion in common for the most part, making them a lot more similar than different. Hispanic countries show the same mixed race results.

@ThePantheonRisen I don't think that we are all the same, we are all very diverse and different at the cultural level, but ultimately I would argue that fundamentally people are all generally the same. They want to be happy, they want to provide for their families, etc. Anthropologists are evenly divided about the reality of race in humans. I'd argue that it still has a lot more to do with culture. Some ethnic groups do purport higher levels of intelligence though.

For the most part though, I’d argue that people generally speaking are average, with small numbers of people who are of very low intelligence, and high intelligence. In NYC, I've noticed that asians, latinos, and even blacks tell their children that they should be weary of young ghetto black kids. Whites, on the other hand, are not like that, they preach to their children that they should not make preconceived judgments about strangers based on their skin color. Often times, their sense of anti-racist morality overcomes racial reality. I think learning things like this when you're young is important, otherwise, people will learn the hard way.

But when you see a group of young, rowdy, black or latino kids, I make my best effort to avoid them. I have smart black and latino friends and even they make those same judgments. I don't make the same assumptions about asians and whites because they're normally well behaved on aggregate.

The idea that more crimes are committed by blacks than by whites/other groups is fact. I don't believe it out of prejudice for blacks, it's statistically true. For strangers, I have little time to analyze their behavior if I'm walking on the street and frankly, most of them don't care what I think in my head.

Whenever I go around the outskirts of Chinatown (near the black neighborhoods), Chinese people, when they're not in groups, tend to avoid the ghetto black kids in the projects anyway. I'll give you an example, the Arab countries, you'll see many people of various phenotypical traits, some of them white, some black, some people mixed with various ethnic backgrounds. They all hold their language, culture, and religion in common for the most part, making them a lot more similar than different. Hispanic countries show the same mixed race results.

I've been following this story and nowhere have I read that they accepted a ride from a stranger... I'm not sure where you heard that, the last I heard they weren't sure how they got over there . Also, be careful because you don't want to sound racist. I'm white and live in the south and although the guy who killed them was black, the majority of blacks don't go around killing people.
