She's right, by denying and supressing the aspects of our personality, they can be a source of defensiveness and insecurity. Rather, by acknowledging those same sides of ourselves, they no longer hold any power over us, and give us more power over ourselves, to choose the sides of ourselves we wish to develop and create the people we can be, want to be and were born to be.
