I love this song, and the album it is from..."Night Rains". All of you not familiar with Janis, here are a few albums to look up...1 - Between the Lines, 2 - "Night Rains", 3 - Janis Ian(self titled...probably her bestoverall album top to bottm), 4 - Stars, and 5 - Aftertones(Spectacular, Janis at her best). Janis Ian is one for the ages. Her music is timeless, her lyrics - Poetry. She is perhaps the single most underappreciated artist in the history of Modern music.
wow really nice. i had never heard of this person. i was watching first season of SNL with George Carlin on it and this Ian was on there. I said wow she looked like she was a teen. So i looked to see who she was on here and found this. She had a great voice. i loved it. is she still alive? George Carlin died. Who is the SAX player or trumpet rather? sounds like the Italian dude I cant think of his name right now but who is the trumpeter? is it Chris Botti??? i love Chris Botti
actually the music is very Giorgio Moroder..the drums and synth sounds are very similar to Macarthur Park by Donna Summer just slower and swinging..great tune
This is not the same version as the soundtrack (Movie) rendition. This one, here, sounds brassier. The soundtrack version had more of a guitar based melody. I'm really looking for the Foxes soundtrack, but it seems out-of-print
But, this isn't the version used in the 'Foxes' movie. The movie is a different arrangement. And, then there's the slower instrumental version. I can't find the 'Foxes' soundtrack anywhere .
Are you sure this isn't the version used in Foxes? It sounds the same to me. Isn't Foxes the best movie ever? My friend and I were seated next to Scott Baio at the Rainbow in West Hollywood once. As we were leaving, my friend said, "You sure pissed me off sometimes, Annie" to him. We laughed. Lame, I know, but we were very young then. LOL.
Hey mooneytunes I couldn't believe reading your comment the same thing with me. I live in New Zealand but I was in a mall in Tauranga just the other day and heard this song and sang it all the way home and here I am listening to it on you tube. Brings back good memories.
I really love this song, I remember it from when i was a kid growing up in New Zealand. i just heard it at the mall the other day and i wanted to see if the vid was on You Tube but no luck. i would have thought this was bigger than 'At 17', her other hit.
Janis Ian represents a special time in music history, sorta like a female version of tom waits, an laternative to the bland disco of the time. It's pre-80's pre-electo-synth-pop. The Pretenders (Chrisy Hynde) also played on the radio around that the time (1980)
Man. There really are so many colours, tastes, and tunes to discover. Like this song!
