This series has haunted me since I was a kid. I remembered something about a box, and the head saying "You'd roll your eyes too if you were upside down". I knew it aired on Nickelodeon once, which was where I saw it. But it took a Russian fan-sub site to let me know what it was and what it was called!
there was a film version in development a few years back but it's all gone quiet ; Mike Newell was attached as director so perhaps it's just as well...
this reminds me when i came home from boarding school .and going to sing carols ..i miss england ,living in canda now ..and just isnt hte same as over there ,but at least i have good memories .from then ,in the 60 s 70 s.
Thank you for uploading such a delightful series. It is nice to watch something that reminds me of being a young child, even though i am a twenty something now.
wish someone'd write a story about two children (a boy and a girl, natch) from another world finding their way into our world, and being really astounded and delighted by things like having to go to school every day, and council tax. it'd make me feel better, here (indicates where heart was).
I think the British have some of the best tv shows and movies, around . I get tired of the same old American fare and if it weren't for people like you putting these movies up,I wouldn't be able to see them.
I love this programme - takes me back to being about eight. Devin Stanfield who plays Kay worked for a while at Norwich Theatre Royal backstage years back and never let on that he did this - nor being in chocky as Matthew's best friend in the first series - what was he scared of? it's a good performance...
@thetasigma42 i'd be bragging about it all the time! i'd start off every sentence with, "when i was in the well-loved Box of ..." am gonna start lying, and tell people i was the kid who played... billy webb? no... peter from lionwitchwardrobe? no...lucy from lionwitchwardrobe? NO! ... ah! i know: one of the kids from Through the Dragon's Eye. yes...

The music on this is rather like that of a lot of early 80s Dr Who stories. Some of the cues are identical.

I'm another one of those 30 something's who watched this as a kid. Totally loved it, even though it scared the living daylights out of me.

when the devil puppet disappeared, i reckon the kids should have made a meal of that to be honest. it actually vanished. thats impossible.

I worked with him recently on a roadshow. I had no idea he did this! Never said a thing about it.

@carolinelinnae perhaps because he wasn't bigheaded or arrogant, he was just being modest and that's something in this day and age of egos.
