I have a quick question. I am looking for fighting style which provides offensive and defensive and this looks really good but does this art help you build muscle and lose weight?
@DiscoverAwesomeness helps you loose fat, so you'll look leaner (if you're a bit overweight), but will be heavier, this is because muscle is heavier than fat. But, now, if you wish to "grow muscle", technically no martial art helps you build muscle per se, you see, mostly all give you strength and speed, but muscle training is different from strength/speed/endurance training, etc... most of these help you use more muscle fibers and making them stronger/faster, but not in growing.
@DiscoverAwesomeness If you're only looking to look athletic, but not bigger, then you'll bee just fine, if not, i recomend some weightlifting, but be carefull, too much may slow you down.
hey guys, get your spelling right! it's PANUNTUKAN, the root word of which is SUNTOK (punch).
people insisting on misspelling it as 'panantukan' should know that it doesn't mean anything in the philippines except sound like a mangled version of the word 'ANTOK' which means SLEEPY! = )
FYI guys: Filipino Martial Arts like panantukan doesn't use any blocks or parry..It's just like blocking and attacking at the same time or counter attack...just sharing what I know..
@Wavemaninawe yeah, maybe it's that, but can you see how they execute those attacks at a time? they block then attack at the same time..that's just what i meant
Yes... plenty of counterattacks going on here. I train some of this stuff myself (Lameco and JKD among other things) and the counter strategy is one of the things I like the most about FMAs and similar systems.
Having practised wing chun " not the modified version" for 18 yearsI have come to appreciate panantucan and silat for there techniques that work in reality, there natural flow and highly efficient footwork as , in the past 5 years have studied kali , and silat and see the similarities.THIS VIDEO IS A TESTAMENT TO THAT
@leevancleef1234 kali is `silat` bro. it just the tagalag word of it. read the philipine sulu sultanate, then you`ll see why they have this movement similarities ( one clue: the sulu sultanate founder is sumatranesse vassal)

@harukohayashi
Most of the FMA styles I've seen use parries and blocks.
Of course, there are lots of them so it wouldn't surprise me if some do only counters.
